01 03 04 10 Breakaway - Kelly Clarkson (1)
Let's start right out with the biggest news of the week. Not since Beyoncé hit the top with "Crazy In Love" back in the summer of 2003 has an American artist hit the top of my chart as a lead artist. [Kelis hit the top for a week with Enrique Iglesias with "Not In Love".] Kelly Clarkson ends the run of foreign number ones this week as "Breakaway" jumps up two to unseat the A*Teens after a sole week on top. Kelly's closest competition is Heart at #5 and Scissor Sisters at #9, also by American acts. Both songs are older though and probably won't hit the top. So Kelly may be settling in for an extended run.
In other news, this week sees 5 entries. As "Lane Moje" falls from the Top 10 this week, Zeljko Joksimovic enters with his second chart single, "7 Godina" at #50. As "Pieces of Me" falls of the chart this week after a 6 week run peaking at #25, Ashlee Simpson enters at #49 with the follow-up, "Shadow". Her debacle on SNL last night hasn't affected her on my chart. Heck, if I didn't chart people who lip-synced, Britney would NEVER hit my chart ;-). The next new entry is at #48. It's "Laissez-Moi Danser" from Star Academy 4, the 4th season of the hit French show. This is the third SA group from France to make my chart. The first season hit with "Paris Latino"at #20, while season three made it to #24 just this year with "L'Orange". The fourth song is Kylie Minogue's most recent effort from her forthcoming greatest hits collection. "I Believe In You" comes in at #46 and looks set to be a much bigger hit that her recent flop, "Chocolate" which only made it to #45. The highest new entry of the week goes to Avril Lavigne's "Nobody's Home". This is her 7th chart single. Her biggest hit to date is the #4 "Complicated". Her last trip to the Top 10 was with the #7 "Sk8er Boi".
There are several large movers this week. The biggest mover, though leaps 11 places to #32. It's Minnie Driver's "Everything I've Got In My Pocket". (Yes, that Minnie Driver.) A comination of a great mellow song and video is propelling this song quickly up my chart. Look for it to be a stong contenter for the Top 10 in just a few weeks. Have a great week! Until next weekend...
