Eight Easy Weeks At #1 For "Eight Easy Steps"
Is it all downhill from here, or will she keep going? Alanis Morisette's "Eight Easy Steps", is coincidently in its eighth week at #1 on my chart. Is it a sign of things to come, that Alanis may drop next week? Either way, Alanis now has the longest running #1 of 2004 and is close to surpassing the 11 week peak held by Madonna's "Hollywood" for longest running #1 on my chart.
Looking to dethrone EES are Destiny's Child with "Lose My Breath", rebounding 8-3 to be the week's greatest gainer. It could also be Shania Twain's "Party For Two" (3-2) or Naomi Striemer's "Fall Behind" (#4 for a second week).
The pick of the week is Canadian singer Melissa McClelland's "Jaded", up five from 20-17 this week. I first heard the song when Michael of The Max Online played it on Variety FM 104, and I began to like it. With Canadian females doing so well in recent weeks, expect this to peak high.
The week's top debut is Gwen Stefani's solo debut "What You Waiting For?" at #21. Gwen hit #1 with her band No Doubt in January with "It's My Life". Meanwhile, at #24, 90's rock group Collective Soul has their first JT25 chart hit with "Counting the Days".
American Idol contestants Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Kimberley Locke, Fantasia Barrino, and Diana DeGarmo have all had huge hits on my chart, but can two singers from a different country's "Idol" show make my chart? Canadian Idol finalists Jacob Hoggard (second place) and Kalan Porter's (winner) different versions of "Awake In A Dream" are both added to my bubbling under.
