Since Cody's doing a female Alternative poll, I figured I'd do a poll for those ladies' R&B counterparts. I tried to pick the ones who made the most impact in the decade, so I know there are a few that I left out. I know that the 90s was the decade of R&B girl groups, but I've left those off of this poll. We're just talking about the solo ladies here. Feel free to make a list and include any that I left off.

That's a tough one... indeed I like most of them but went with Janet Jackson.

Mariah for sure. I do like quite a bit of her 90 stuff nowadays, though I can't say I'm big on her 2000s stuff. Janet's 90s stuff is also alright and I don't mind Faith Evans either, so those two would fill out by top 3.

There isn't one of these ladies that I don't like. Though in recent years, some have grated on the nerves more than others. Here's how I rank them:
1. Janet Jackson 2. Mary J. Blige 3. Whitney Houston 4. Brandy 5. Monica 6. Lauryn Hill 7. Aaliyah 8. Faith Evans 9. Toni Braxton 10. Erykah Badu 11. Mya 12. Deborah Cox 13. Mariah Carey 14. Vanessa Williams 15. Lisa Stansfield

This is a tough one! Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston stand out the most, in my memory (can't explain exactly why, it's what I was exposed to most as a young kid at the time) so I have to rank them first.
I prefer 2000's Janet and 2000's Aaliyah over 90's Janet and 90's Aaliyah; I also prefer 90's Toni Braxton over 2000's Toni Braxton. That makes it even more difficult to rank them. Here they are, in terms of my preferences for their music during 1990-1999 (NOT the artists overall).
I also recall that Vanessa Williams was the first singer I ever disliked.
1. Mariah Carey 2. Whitney Houston 3. Toni Braxton 4. Mary J. Blige 5. Janet Jackson 6. Aaliyah 7. Monica 8. Lauryn Hill 9. Faith Evans 10. Mya 11. Deborah Cox 12. Brandy 13. Erykah Badu 14. Lisa Stansfield 15. Vanessa Williams

For me it was Brandy, although most songs I liked most by her were released in the Naughties. Deborah Cox was pretty amazing too. Lisa Stansfield, wow I almost forgot about her. And who could forget Toni Braxton's singles?!
