It's a very active chart week as 7 new songs enter the Top 50. Shania Twain enters at #50 with "It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing", her 5th hit from Up!. At #49 is French singer In-Grid with "You Promised Me" from the Queer Eye Soundtrack. This is one of 4 songs from the soundtrack appearing on the chart this week. In total, 8 songs have charted that appear on it. At #48 is the third French Star Academy crew with "L'Orange". This is a remake of an older French song from the 60s or 70s. When I was in high school in the late 80s, my French class performed the song for a college competition and we took first with it. (I was singing the lead So the song has definite sentimental value.
Trying to help Shania, Blue enters at #46 with "Breathe Easy". This is their 6th chart single now. Their biggest is still the #2 "Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word". Sarah McLachlan enters at #43 with "Stupid", the second of two hits for her on the chart. "Fallen" is still climbing, up 5 to #25.
Making a big debut at #39 is Beyoncé's new single "Naughty Girl". She has not had a hit since "Crazy In Love", which went to #1 last summer. The highest new entry of the week goes to the final single from Atomic Kitten. "Someone Like Me" enters all the way up at #34. This is their third current chart single and 7th overall. Not a bad accomplishment for just over a year of chart activity.
The biggest mover of the week is Atomic Kitten's "Right Now" which jumps 12 places from #19 to land at #7. This could become their highest charting song to date based on how quickly it has risen...
Sugababes hold onto #5. This is their 6th chart single, all of which have hit the Top 5. Enrique holds at #4 with Kelis. This is his 8th chart single, 7th Top 10, and 4th #4. He has never managed to get higher. Let's see if he can break through... Will Young gives up the #1 position after 8 consecutive weeks on tip with "Love The One You're With" then "Your Game". Taking over #1 is the German act Boogie Pimps with their remix/cover of Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody To Love". This is only the second German act to ever occupy the top. The last time it occured was the week of Oct 13th, 1990 when Snap! hit the top with "Oops Up!" This also marks the first time in 5 months that #1 has not been controlled by Will Young or the Sugababes.
