Week 483 – May 30^th, 2020

Finally Anouk took over with her latest single “I love you” (#1). It’s her first #1 since April 2017 when “We are” from her album “Queen for a day” topped the chart for a single week. In total “I love you” is her 19th #1 on my chart. With this climb she ended her longest #1 drought. This is definitely a nice change from “Smiling” (#2) by Alanis Morissette to Anouk. New at the podium is “Dance again” (#3) by Selena Gomez. She replaced Isak Danielson’s “I don’t need your love” (#4). Up two spots and into the Top 5 is “Break up song” (#5) by Little Mix. For them this is their biggest success since their debut back in 2011.

Also moving up are the next two songs in the Top 10. First to mention is “Break my heart” (#6) by Dua Lipa. Sure this one is no “Physical” (#25) but I really like it. The other one is “Freunde” (#7, “Friends”) by German singer Elif. “Freunde” is a nice break-up song where she is still in love with her ex. One German song is followed by another. For German act Silbermond “Machen wir das Beste draus” (#8, “Let’s make the best of it”) is their biggest hit since their #1 “Himmel auf” (“Heaven on”) back in 2012. Down three spots are Aitana and Lola Indigo with their song “Me quedo” (#9, “I stay”). And definitely on its way out of the Top 10 are Die Ärzte with their COVID-19 hymn “Ein Lied für jetzt” (#10, “A song for now”) which topped the chart for three weeks.

The award for the greatest gainer of the week is going to Italian singer Emma. She climbed up 19 spots with both of her last week’s debuts “Quando l'amore finisce” (#40, “When love ends”) and “Alibi” (#41). This week’s debuts can be found down the chart with several songs from the Country genre. The highest debut is by German singer LEA who recently dropped her album “Treppenhaus” (“Stairwell”). While the title track “Treppenhaus” (#11) just left the Top 10 LEA debuts with “Okay” (#75). This song is followed by the 2nd Lady Gaga single from her new album. “Rain on me” (#76) is a collaboration with Ariana Grande. I prefer this song over her first single from this album, but I’m not sure if this song is doing very well for me.

Week 484 – June 6^th, 2020

For Anouk everything seems pretty normal. Her single “I love you” (#1) scores the 2nd week at the top and if I’m honest the chance for another song taking over soon is very little. Therefore I don’t think that Selena Gomez can take over with “Dance again” (#2) although climbing up one spot. Down one spot is former #1 “Smiling” (#3) by Alanis Morissette. Sure a dropping is never good, but Alanis Morissette has still something in her pocket what is worth smiling. Directly behind you can find the first non-moving song. It is “I don’t need your love” (#4) by Isak Danielsson. Up two spots and into the Top 5 is “Freunde” (#5, “Friends”) by German singer Elif. At the moment she is constantly releasing non-album singles. Since I started charting “Zu Ende” (“Over”) earlier this year she has released six more singles, but only “Freunde” and “Ein letztes Mal” (#39, “One last time”) reached the chart.

Also up two spots and knocking at the door to the Top 5 are Silbermond with their COVID-19 single “Machen wir das Beste draus” (#6, "Let’s make the best of it”). This single is followed by two new songs in the Top 10. Let’s welcome “Diagnois” (#7) by Alanis Morissette. This makes now three out of three singles from her upcoming new album in my Top 10. The other new song in the Top 10 is “Luci blu” (#8, “Blue lights”) by Emma. It took this song a while for entering the Top 10, but as there is big concurrence from the album “Fortuna” in this week’s edition it has been somehow clear that this song will end in the Top 10. Down three spots is “Break my heart” (#9) by Dua Lipa and rounding out this week’s Top 10 is “Break up song” (#10) by Little Mix.

As I mentioned above there is a big pressure by songs from the album “Fortuna” for Emma. Last week “Quando l'amore finisce” (#18, “When love ends”) has been the greatest gainer of the week along with “Alibi” (#21). This week “Quando l'amore finisce“ climbed up 22 spots and is once again awarded with the greatest gainer of the week. “Alibi” also did well, but was as good as “Quando l'amore finisce”. On the debuts front I can point out that you have to dig deep once more. The highest debut is “How to be lonely” (#73) by Rita Ora. Sure this single has been released months ago, but it is gaining airplay in Austria so I decided to chart this song now.

Other debuts are “Back to the moon” (#80) by Der Astronaut - this is synonym for Max Mutzke who was part of the German version of “The masked singer” as an astronaut -, “All of the boys (country mix)” (#87) by Caroline Jones, “Lose somebody” (#91) by Kygo & OneRepublic, “Under your influence” (#95) by Honey Country feat. Spencer Crandall, “Leiwand” (#97, “Brilliant”) by Edmund, “Get the girl” (#98) by Renee Blair, “Same again” (#99) by Please Madame and “Get the girl” (#100) by Trea Landon.

I’m still obsessed with “I love you” (#1) by Anouk. This song is now for a third week at the top and I hope it will be some more weeks. Once more in at #2 is “Dance again” by Selena Gomez who is maybe scoring another chart hit with her new single in next week’s edition. The podium is completed with the third non-moving song in a row is former #1 “Smiling” (#3) by Alanis Morissette. Up one spot is “Freunde” (#4, “Friends”) by Elif. New in the Top 5 is another single by Alanis Morissette. “Diagnois” (#5) climbed up two spots.

Directly behind and knocking at the door to the Top 5 is Emma with “Luci blu” (#6, “Blue lights”). This song climbed up two spots. Down three spots is former #1 “I don’t need your love” (#7) by Isak Danielson. Also going down is COVID-19 themed song “Machen wir das Beste draus” (#8, “Let’s make the best of it”) by Silbermond. Eventually Avril Lavigne reached the Top 10 with her recent smash “Warrior” (#9). The other new song in the Top 10 is “I dare you” (#10) by Kelly Clarkson after a six spot climb.

The greatest gainer of the week is “Lose somebody” (#72) by Kygo & OneRepublic. Their song climbed up 19 spots. This single marks a chart with some bigger climbs and a lot of debuts. The highest debut is by Norwegian singer Dagny. Her recent single “Somebody” (#31) just missed the Top 30, but should reach this part of the chart by next week. This isn’t the only Top 40 debut in this week’s edition. The 2nd best debut is “Oxygen” (#35) by Winona Oak & Robin Schulz. Over the last months Winona Oak had some minor hits down the chart, but with “Oxygene” she reached the Top 40 for the first time. And then there is one more debut within the Top 40. It is the latest single by Norwegian singer Astrid S. Her single “Dance dance dance” debuted directly at #38. As I pointed out there are several debuts, but there is also one re-entry. Re-entering the chart is US country singer Cam with her recent single “Till there’s nothing left” (#78). This is the first re-entry since July 2016.

Week 486 – June 20^th, 2020

It has been another interesting music week for me. Anouk is still at the top with “I love you” (#1). It is her 4th week at the top and therefore she is in the hunt to reach some of her other #1’s hits. Still at the runner’s up spot is “Dance again” (#2) by Selena Gomez. Up two spots and new at the podium is “Diagnosis” (#3) by Alanis Morissette. This means nothing more than this is her 3rd Top 3 hit from her upcoming new album. Directly behind you can find “Luci blu” (#4, “Blue lights”) by Emma who has now two songs in the Top 10. While Emma has two songs in the Top 10 Alanis Morissette has two in the Top 5. Her other Top 5 smash is former #1 “Smiling” (#5).

Down two spots is “Freunde” (#6, “Friends”) by Elif. This song is on its way out of the Top 10, but her latest charting single “Ein letztes Mal” (#17, “One last time”) eventually reached the Top 20 this week. Superstar Kelly Clarkson is doing very well with her latest single. “I dare you” (#7) climbed up three spots and maybe this single will reach the Top 5 by next week. Up one spot is “Warrior” (#8) by Avril Lavigne. Swedish singer Isak Danielson is falling with his song “I don’t need your love” (#9). Hopefully this song will stay one more week within the Top 10 but I’ve my doubts. New in the Top 10 is “Quando l'amore finisce” (#10, “When love ends”) by Emma.

Once again Kygo & OneRepublic are awarded with the greatest gainer of the week with their song “Lose somebody” (#44). Two week ago this song debuted at #91 and now this can be found within the Top 50 and there is still no end in climbing up the chart. The highest debut is by a Canadian artist and it is neither Alanis Morissette nor Carly Rae Jepsen. This debut is by Olivia Lunny. I’ve not heard of her before but her single “Think of me” (#60) did well in its 1st week on chart. Directly behind another Canadian singer is debuting. It is Carly Rae Jepsen with “This love isn’t crazy” (#61).

Week 487 – June 27^th, 2020

Let’s start with a closer look at the Top 10. Over the last weeks my favourite artist Anouk topped the chart with her current single. And now “I love you” (#1) is topping the chart for a fifth week in a row. I’m not sure how long this song will top the chart, but I’m sure that “I love you” will one of my most played songs over this summer. Directly behind “I love you” is “Diagnosis” (#2) by Alanis Morissette. So far this single is the only one which didn’t top the chart, but things could go out well. Directly behind the Top 5 is the 2nd highest ranked song by Emma. Her album cut “Quando l'amore finisce” (#6) climbed up two spots. Caught between this song by Emma and her new song in the Top 10 is “Smiling” (#7) by Alanis Morissette. The mention Emma song is “Alibi” (#8) which climbed up six spots to land within the Top 10. Also new in the Top 10 is the latest single by German star Mark Forster. His 80’s pop orientated single “Übermorgen” (#9, “The day after tomorrow”) climbed up seven spots. And last but not least “Freunde” (#10, “Friends”) by Elif can be found in the Top 10.

For a third week “Lose somebody” (#30) by Kygo & One Republic is the greatest gainer of the week. This week “Lose somebody” only climbed up 14 spots. This brings me as always to the highest debut for which you have to look to the lower part of the chart. The highest debut is “Anxious” (#84) by Kate Voegele. Although this single is the highest debut for Kate Voegele it isn’t a good start. I’m still unsure about this song, but on the other hand it got its debut. Week 488 – July 4^th, 2020

Another strong year for #1’s is going on. Anouk is defending the crown for now a sixth week with “I love you” (#1) and maybe this is her last week at the top. In fact a double pack by Emma is attacking the #1. Up one spot is “Luci blu” (#2, “Blue lights”) and three spots up is her album cut “Quando l'amore finisce” (#3, “When love ends”). Two songs at the podium leads to the fact that the chance is high that Emma will end up at #1 by next week. This also means that “Diagnosis” (#4) is dropping down two spots and so Alanis Morissette probably won’t be able to reach #1 with this song. Still in the Top 5 is “I dare you” (#5) by Kelly Clarkson.

The third song by Emma is knocking at the door to the Top 5. “Alibi” (#6) climbed up two spots and should join the other songs by Emma. The next song in line also climbed up two spots. For Mark Forster his 80’s inspired pop song “Übermorgen” (#7, “The day after tomorrow”) is his 2nd straight Top 10 hit this year. Down four spots and on its way out of the Top 10 is “Dance again” (#8) by Selena Gomez. These songs are followed by two Top 10 debuts. The higher ranked song is “Ein letztes Mal” (#9, “One last time”) by Elif. The other one is “Somebody” (#10) by Norwegian singer Dagny.

Over the last three weeks the award for the greatest gainer of the week went to Kygo and OneRepbulic with their song “Lose somebody” (#22). This week this song only climbed up eight spots and so the way was free for another song. Climbing up 15 spots and getting awarded is “Okay” (#30) by German singer LEA who has now three songs in the Top 30 from her album “Treppenhaus”. So let’s talk about the highest debut Two songs managed to debut within the Top 50. The highest debut is technically a song from the 1990’s. Back in 1994 British band Oasis released their debut album “Definitely maybe”. On the Japanese edition they released the song “Sad song”, but this song hasn’t been released as a regular single. So let’s move on fast forward to 2020. Liam Gallagher was part of the “MTV Unplugged” series where he sung this song too which has been released a regular single to promote this album. I definitely like this song and so “Sad song” (#41) is the highest debut in this week’s edition nearly 26 years after its first release on this Japanese edition.

The 2nd highest debut goes to 71-year-old Australian singer Daryl Braithwaite. Braithwaite had his heyday as solo singer in the early 1970’s and 1990’s when he topped the Australian charts with his songs “You’re my world” (back in 1974) and “The horses” (back in 1991). Now he returns very strong with his first single in nearly seven years. “Love songs” debuts at #50 and was originally written for Pink who is a regular guest on my chart. Some may point out that this song isn’t something for such an old guy, but I think this song fits well and why can’t older people not regret an unfulfilled love.

Other debuts are “Gone” (#84) by Liam Gallagher, “Good guys” (#85) by LANY, “Glücklicher allein” (#86, “Happier alone”) by Julia Beautx, “Worse” (#89) by New Hope Club, “Down to the water” (#90) by Maria Engås Halsne and “The last dance” (#96) – a cover of the Claire Maguire song – by Alma Agger.

Week 489 – July 11^th, 2020

Finally this weird school year is over. Teaching from home was definitely interesting, but nothing I would like to do on a regular basis. I’m celebrating the end of the school year with a new #1. After six weeks at the top Anouk had to leave the top spot. Stepping in is Italian singer Emma with her regular single “Luci blu” (#1, “Blue lights”). Also up one spot and completing the double pack at the top of the chart is “Quando l'amore finisce” (#2, “When love ends”) also by Emma. This means that Anouk’s “I love you” (#3) dropped two spots. Dropping a little bit faster than expected is “Diagnosis” (#8) by Alanis Morissette. I believe that this 4 spot drop means that this song won’t be found in the Top 10 by next week. Up one spot is “Somebody” (#9) by Dagny. For the first time in the Top 10 is Swedish singer Winona Oak. Her song “Oxygen” (#10) with Robin Schulz climbed up three spots.

21 spots up is “The love isn’t crazy” (#27) by Carly Rae Jepsen. For this she is awarded with the greatest gainer of the week. Honestly I hadn’t this song in my mind, but “Sad song” (#21) by Liam Gallagher “only” climbed up 20 spots and so this song failed by one spot to get awarded. The highest debut goes to US band LANY. Last week they debuted with their single “Good guys” (#81). This week they released the next single. “If this is the last time” (#68) did better than “Good guys” and definitely deserves to be the highest debut. I absolutely love this homage to family and I’m sure that “If this is the last time” will end up in the Top 10. All other debuts are from South Korea. Over the last week I finally had time to listen to the releases I hadn’t time to listen during this weird school year and so you also can find two songs from last year debuting in this week’s edition. Week 490 – July 18^th, 2020

Every now and then there is a self-replacement at the top of the chart. This week Emma replaced “Luci blu” (#2, “Blue lights”) with her album cut “Quando l’amore finisce” (#1, “When love ends”). Directly behind this double leading pack is “Alibi” (#3) also by Emma. Three songs in the Top 3 by one artist is definitely a rare thing and although Emma had several #1 hits before this is the first time she replaced herself at the top spot and that she placed three songs in the Top 3. The only other artist who had three Top 3 hits at once and multiple #1’s replacing themselves is Anouk. And speaking of Anouk leads me to her former #1 “I love you” (#4) which dropped one spot in this week’s edition. Next in line is “Übermorgen” (#5, “The day after tomorrow”) by Mark Forster.

Up one spot and knocking at the door to the Top 5 is “Ein letztes Mal” (#6, “One last time”) by Elif. Directly behind is Norwegian singer Dagny with her super catchy “Somebody” (#7). Also up is Winona Oak with Robin Schulz and their single “Oxygen” (#8). These are all songs by artists which hadn’t a lot of big hits on my chart before. Quite the opposite is Kelly Clarkson. She had several #1’s over the years, but “I dare you” (#9) only peaked at #5 and this week this song dropped three spots. This week’s Top 10 is rounded out with a new song in this part of the chart. For the first time in history former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher placed a song in the Top 10. The song itself is a rare song from the Oasis debut album especially a bonus track from the Japanese edition. He released “Sad song” (#10) as a regular single to promote his “MTV Unplugged”-album. I really love this song and it definitely reminds me of my favourite Oasis song “Wonderwall”.

Speaking of Liam Gallagher I’ve to mention that his other single from his “MTV Unplugged” session “Gone” (#52) is the greatest gainer of the week after climbing up 19 spots. The highest debut is by German schlager singer Vanessa Mai and Spanish band Lérica. Their song “Du bist mein Highlight (No puedo estar sin ti)” (#66, “You’re my highlight (I can’t be without you)”) has the summer vibe and I absolutely believe that this song will end in the Top 20. The only time before when Vanessa Mai had been within the Top 20 had been with “Niemals” (“No way”) which peaked at #15 back in 2019.

Week 491 – July 25^th, 2020

This week’s summary starts with the same #1 as last week. So Emma’s “Quando l’amore finisce” (#1, “When love ends”) is holding the top spot. She is also continuing her success with three songs in the Top 3 from her “Fortuna” album. While “Quando l’amore finisce” is holding its spot “Alibi” (#2) and former #1 “Luci blu” (#3, “Blue lights”) swapped spots. Once more directly behind this triple pack is “I love you” (#4) by Anouk. Up five spots and into the Top 5 is Liam Gallagher with “Sad song” (#5). I believe that this song will end the Emma domination.

Leaving the Top 5 is 80’s inspired German pop song “Übermorgen” (#6, “The day after tomorrow”) by Mark Forster. Next in line are two non-movers. First to mention is “Somebody” (#6) by Dagny. The other one is “Oxygen” (#7) by Winona Oak & Robin Schulz. Dropping down three spots is Elif with “Ein letztes Mal” (#9, “One last time”). Celebrating a “comeback” in the Top 10 after his big hit “Higher love” is Kygo. He returns with “Lose somebody” (#10) with OneRepublic.

The greatest gainer of the week is “Zefix” (#50, “Oh shit”) by Austrian Chris Steger. This single has something that I can’t put into words, but I definitely like his song writing and maybe this 16 year old singer has a long career in his pocket. The highest debut is by another Austrian act. Edmund return with another single from their album “Leiwand”. Their song “Auf amoi” (#51, “At once”) is a really good choice for a follow up to “Leiwand” (#75, “Canwas”) which had been their first hit in the Austrian Top 40. For me this one is surely as good as “Büdl an da Wand” (“Picture on the wall”) which is their biggest hit on my chart so far. The 2nd highest debut is by Kygo. He enters the chart with a remix of Tina Turner’s 80s hit “What’s love got to do with it” (#52). Hopefully this song will do well too.

Week 492 – August 1^st, 2020

And this week’s winner in the run for the top spot of the week is … Liam Gallagher. His single “Sad song” (#1) climbed up four spots and reached the summit. So this song prevented Emma for reaching a 4th consecutive week at the top. All of her songs dropped one spot in this week’s edition. Last week’s #1 “Quando l’amore finisce” (“When love ends”) finished at #2, “Alibi” (#3) failed to do the last step and “Luci blu” (#4, “Blue lights”) dropped out of the podium. Emma is still dominating the chart, but this week without being at #1. Rounding out this week’s Top 5 is former #1 “I love you” (#5) by Anouk.

Dagny is still doing well. Her song “Somebody” (#6) climbed up one spot and is in the front of the Top 5. Maybe next week this song will enter. Directly behind is “Übermorgen” (#7, “The day after tomorrow”) by Mark Forster. His 2nd Top 10 hit in a row is constantly losing ground to the top songs, but I still think that this one is one of his best songs. Next in line is the first Top 10 hit for Winona Oak. Her song “Oxygen” (#8) with Robin Schulz is doing way better than her new single with Dutch DJ R3HAB which debuts this week. Climbing up is Kygo. Sure most of you believe that “What’s love got to do with it” reached the Top 10, but no this song only reached the Top 40 with a peak at #33 for now. I’m speaking of “Lose somebody” (#9) with OneRepublic which is doing pretty good. New in the Top 10 is “7 Stunden” (#10, “7 hours”) by LEA & Capital Bra. For Capital Bra is this his Top 10 debut although he is the most successful artist in Germany and Austria – when you only count #1 songs. So he had 19 #1 singles (13 of these within a year) in Germany and 15 #1’s in Austria since his debut in 2016. I don’t know why the youngsters are all into his German rap songs, but hey who am I to judge. At the moment only Switzerland can resist because of the fact he only had 6 #1’s there.

For the greatest gainer of the week I’ve not to look over the borders when good songs are also coming from my home country. This week the award goes to Edmond with their song “Auf amoi” (#31, “At once”) which climbed up 20 spots in its 2nd week on chart. So let’s see which song is this week’s top debut. Of course it is by Taylor Swift who just released a new album. Her single “Cardigan” (#43) is doing well although it only debuted outside the Top 40. With her new album she is continuing her trend to Indie Pop produced by Anton Dessner who is part of The National. As I’m not really a fan of The National I’m still torn whether I love her new work or not. Sure there are great songs on “Lover” and “Folklore”, but when you look over my chart you may have noticed that this is definitely not the majority kind of songs I’m charting. For now I believe this album will also provide hits for me, but for the future this could definitely change.

Week 493 – August 8^th, 2020

Last week Liam Gallagher scored his first #1. His single, an Oasis’ song from 1994, sprinted up four spots to #1. This week “Sad songs” (#1) defended its title. Sure if you’re looking over the chart you’ll notice that most of the songs in the Top 10 didn’t move. Next in line is Emma with three songs in a row. All of these songs didn’t move and so “Quando l’amore finisce” (#2, “When love ends”) is still in the runner’s up spot, “Alibi” (#3) completes the podium and former #1 “Luci blu” (#4, “Blue lights”) is rounding out this trio. Now in its 18th week on chart is “I love you” (#5) by Anouk. This former #1 is fighting against its drop out of the Top 5 and for this week it all went well.

Dagny tried it last week and this week too, but she failed to place her single “Somebody” (#6) within the Top 5. As this song is in its 9th week on chart I doubt that I will enter the Top 5 in the future. The same could be sad about “Oxygen” (#7) by Winona Oak & Robin Schulz and “7 Stunden” (#8, “7 hours”) by LEA & Capital Bra but these songs climbed up one or else two spots. These songs are followed by two new songs in the Top 10. The higher ranked one is Carly Rae Jepsen’s “This love isn’t crazy” (#9). The other one is “Crowded room” (#10) by Selena Gomez feat. 6lack (#10). Both songs climbed up three spots.

The greatest gainer of the week “Houseparty” (#60) by Annalisa which debuted outside the Top 90 two weeks ago. Moving up 21 spots earns her this award. The highest debut is “90 days” (#61) by Pink feat. Wrable. Although there has been a video release over year ago “90 days” has never been confirmed as an official or promotional single. Therefore it lasted a while before I started charting this song with this week’s edition although I’ve bought her album “Hurts 2B human” and I’m known as someone who’s charting ever songs from bought albums. The 2nd best debut is also from this album. It is “Courage” (#62).

Week 494 – August 15^th, 2020

For a third week in a row things are cooling down at the top of my chart. The first thing I can point out is that Liam Gallagher is holding the #1 with “Sad songs” (#1) for now three weeks. Not bad for a singer who hadn’t a single #1 before. The following three spots are still occupied by Italian singer Emma in exact the same order for now three weeks. So “Quando l’amore finisce” (#2, “When love ends”) finishes at the runner’s up spot followed by “Alibi” (#3) and former #1 “Luci blu” (#4, “Blue lights”). Climbing up or down is overestimated in this part of the chart and so “I love you” (#5) by Anouk is continuing this trend.

And last but not least Dagny’s “Somebody” (#6) is part of this snail race or should I write the first one who is making a move is out. Therefore all went well for Dagny because her single is the 6th song neither climbing up nor slipping down. The first song which is breaking the standstill agreement is “This love isn’t crazy” (#7) by Carly Rae Jepsen. “This love isn’t crazy” climbed up two spots. Also up two spots is “Crowded room” (#8) by Selena Gomez feat. 6lack. Finally there is fresh blood in the Top 10 too. For the first time in the Top 10 is Daryl Braithwaite with “Love songs” (#9). Back in this part are LANY with their emotional “If this is the last time” (#10).

Swedish singer LÉON had several hits since her debut back in 2015 with “Tired of talking” (peaked at #83 in 2017). Two Top 10 hits later the 2nd single from her upcoming sophomore album “And it breaks my heart” (#28) is awarded with the greatest gainer of the week. I really like this song and it should do better in the next weeks although I’ve to point out that the album’s 3rd single “Chasing a feeling” is also on its way to chart. Somehow artists are releasing new single in a shorter time periode than usual in this year. So Taylor Swift is no exception. Her new album “Folklore” has been a big surprise and within weeks there are three official singles out of this album. “Cardigan” (#19) reached the Top 20 in its 3rd week after its release. This week the other two singles got their debut. “Exile” (#56) with Bon Iver is the higher ranked one. The other one is the country folk rock song “Betty” (#57). Both failed to enter the Top 50, but I expect them both in this part by next week.

Week 495 – August 22^nd, 2020

Hurray there is a little bit of action within the Top 10. But first I’ve to disappoint you if you hoped that Liam Gallagher lost his fortune. His song “Sad song” (#1) is now celebrating its 4th week at the top. He is still followed by Emma. Over the last week the spots 2 to 4 were all occupied by her, but this week she can only be found on #2 with “Quando l’amore finisce” (“When love ends”) and #3 with “Alibi”. So the way was free for a new song within the Top 4. And it goes to Australian Daryl Braithwaite with his single “Love songs” (#4). “Love songs” climbed up five spots. Emma’s “Luci blu” (#5, “Blue lights”) dropped one spot.

Not only Daryl Braithwaite sprinted up the chart also LANY did very well this week and I’ve to say that I’m highly interested in their new album “Mama’s boy”. Unfortunately I’ve to wait until October when they release the album. In the meanwhile their single “If this is the last time” (#6) climbed up four spots and so they are knocking heavily at the door to the Top 5. Back again in the Top 10 is Austrian band Edmund. Their latest single “Auf amoi” (#7, “At once”) is now the bands 2nd Top 10 hit following “Büdl an da Wand” (“Picture on the wall”) which had been a surprising hit for me last year. The other new song within the Top 10 is once more a song by Norwegian DJ Kygo. This time it is another cover. He teamed up with Tina Turner and released a new version of “What’s love got to do with it” (#8). I definitely like this song, but I don’t get the same vibe as with “Higher love”. Down four spots is former #1 “I love you” (#9) by Anouk. This song is now in its 20th week on chart and I believe that this will be its last week in the Top 10. This part of the chart is rounded out with “This love isn’t crazy” (#10) by Carly Rae Jepsen.

This week’s greatest gainer is “Paper rings” (#21) by Taylor Swift after climbing up 19 spots. Although “Paper rings” failed to reach the Top 20 she has now two songs in this part from two different albums. The higher ranked one is “Cardigan” (#14) from “Folklore”. The other one is the album cut “Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince” (#17) from “Lover”. In total she is charting six songs from two albums. On the other hand “Paper rings” isn’t awarded alone. Also up 19 spots is the latest single by Alanis Morissette. Her single “Ablaze” (#47) just entered the Top 50, but should reach higher parts of the chart within the next weeks.

The highest debut is by Cold War Kids. I finally bout their album “New Age Norms 1” and so their singles “4th of July” (#54) and “Waiting for your love” (#55). I like these songs but as the single and the album have been released late last year I’m not sure if the will do as well as other singles by them have done for me. Liam Gallagher and Darryl Braithwaite are singing about a broken love story. While Liam Gallagher points out the “Sad song” (#1) his counterpart Darryl Braithwaite is singing about writing and writing “Love songs” (#2) since the end of the relationship. For Liam Gallagher’s “Sad song” it’s the 5th week at the top while “Love songs” spent its 1st week at the runner’s up spot. So for the first time in weeks no song by Emma can be found within the Top 2. Her highest ranked song is still “Quando l’amore finisce” (#3, “When love ends”). This is also her only Top 5 smash in this week’s edition which is filled up with two new songs. LANY who are releasing their new album in October are reaching this part with “If this is the last time” (#4). Also new in this section is “Auf amoi” (#5, “At once”) by Edmund.

Down one spot is former #1 “Luci blu” (#6, “Blue lights”) by Emma and she still has three songs in the Top 10. “Alibi” (#7) dropped down four spots. Next in line is “What’s love got to do with it” (#8) by Kygo feat. Tina Turner. Reaching the Top 10 for the first time is a song from Taylor Swift’s new album “Folklore”. Her song “Cardigan” (#9) climbed up four spots to reach this spot. Also up four spots is “Reckoning” (#10) by Alanis Morissette. This is now her 4th Top 10 hit from her new album following “Reasons I drink” (#1 for one week), “Smiling” (#1 for four week), “Diagnosis” (#49, peaked at #2). And her latest single “Ablaze” (#35) is also up the chart.

As the chart is going to get younger over the last weeks it is no surprise that several songs are in the range to reach the Top 10 by next week. LÉON tries her Top 10 comeback with “And it breaks my heart” (#12) while Taylor Swift is trying it with several songs. Her highest ranked non-Top 10 hit is “Miss Americana and the heartbreak prince” (#13) from “Lover”. None of these songs in the direct hunt for a Top 10 spot is this week’s greatest gainer of the week. This award goes to Holly Humberstone who is actually releasing singles on a regular basis. So far I think that “Overkill” (#67) is her best one.

The highest debut is by Austrian singer Lemo. I’m not really a fan but with “Schwarze Wolken” (#52) he released a very cool song which should reach a good spot in the end. Also a surprising entry is “Signal” (#53) by badmómzjay. Jordan Napieray better known under her stage name badmómzjay released her first German rap song back in 2019 and since that she had four minor hits in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. I’ve pointed it out so often before, but rap isn’t my genre. On the other hand over the last year several German rap songs have been part on my chart. So am I now a fan of this genre? Definitely no, but I’ve to admit that there are some interesting songs in this genre too which are far away from sexual violence, misogynistic lyrics, glorification of violence or antisemitism to name some parts for which this genre is heavily criticized and for which badmómzjay also has been criticized in the past.
