Week 391 – August 25^th, 2018

LANY defended the top spot of my chart with “Thru these tears” (#1) once more. This is now their 3rd week at the top and they should top my chart for at least one more week. “Heat” (#2) by Kelly Clarkson is holding the runner’s up spot for another week, but I’m not sure if this song gets the extra punch for reaching #1. Also holding their spots are the Taylor Swift songs in my Top 10. “I did something bad” (#3) is still completing the podium while “Don’t blame me” (#4) is just outside the Top 3. New in my Top 5 is another song by Kelly Clarkson. Her song “Whole lotta woman” (#5) climbed up two spots.

Now outside the Top 5 is former #1 “Angels on my shoulders” (#6) by Norma Jean Martine. This song is followed by the first of three new songs in this part of my chart. Core artist Emma returns with her latest single “Mi parlo piano” (#7, Talk to me slowly”) after a 19 spot leap. Next in line are the Backstreet Boys with their recent hit “Don’t go breaking my heart” (#8). And then there are the other two new songs in this part. Back in my Top 10 is Austrian singer Christina Stümer. Her recent single “In ein paar Jahren” (#9, “In a few years”) climbed up 22 spots in its 2nd week on chart. Also up 22 spots in its 2nd charting week is “You” (#10) by Norwegian singer Matilda. These both songs are tied for the award of the greatest gainer of the week.

Last week saw a massive of 22 new songs. This week had been a little bit calmer, but there are still nine debuts. The highest one is by German singer LEA and Cyril. “Wenn wir uns sehn” (#31, “Always when we meet”) is a song from the German movie “Das schönste Mädchen der Welt” (“The most beautiful girl in the world”) and Cyril is portrayed by Aaron Hilmer. I really like this song although isn’t as good as LEA’s part, but this part is so short that I can connive. The 2nd highest debut also reached my Top 50. It is by Maggie Rogers who is best known for her single “Alaska” which I never charted. Her latest single “Give a little” (#47) is her chart debut.

Other debuts are “Middle of the night mind” (#58) and “Ventura highway” (#59) by Kate Voegele, “Wouldn’t want to be like you” (#84) by Sheryl Crow feat. Annie Clark, “Almost forgot” (#85) by Against The Current, “Heart to break” (#86) by Kim Petras, “Break” (#93) by Gin Blossoms and “Tonight belongs to you” (#94) by In Real Life.

This song is at the moment a big phenomenon here in Austria. Josh. really came out of nowhere, but I believe that this song will soon be overplayed. I also like this video.

I just saw that the have some gigs in October in Europe (not in Austria), but as the school year starts I'm not able to see them. They should stay one more week at the top, but then I think someone else will take over.

It took a while before Kim Petras got her debut. Sure it is a long way to #1, but who knows.

Unfortunately I’ve not been able to write a review last week. My PC crashed and I had to install everything again. But now a week later I’m her to present you a brand new #1. Italian singer Emma did it once again. She climbed up three spots with her recent single “Mi parli piano” (#1, “Talk to me slowly”). It is her 8th career #1 and her 2nd from her latest album. Last week’s #1 “Thru these tears” (#2) by LANY dropped one spot and is now the first to hunt Emma’s single. Up five spots is Norwegian singer Matilda with “You”. I really love this song and at the moment I can see this as the next long running #1. Next is “Heat” (#2) by Kelly Clarkson which dropped two spots. “You” isn’t the only new song in my Top 5. The other one is “In ein paar Jahren” (#5, “In a few years”) by Christina Stürmer.

Leading song in my 2nd part of my Top 10 is former #1 “I did something bad” (#6) by Taylor Swift. This song dropped three spots. On the other hand country pop by Cassadee Pope climbed up two spots so that “One more red light” (#7) is heavily knocking at the door to my Top 5. The next one is “Whole lotta woman” (#8) by Kelly Clarkson which dropped three spots. This song is followed by the only new song in my Top 10. Let’s welcome back Luke Sital-Singh with “Rough diamonds fall” which climbed up five spots. The Top 10 is rounded out by “Don’t blame me” (#10) by Taylor Swift.

Due to the installation problems I hadn’t really time to listen to new music. So I decided to only debut album cuts this week. The highest debut is by Aurea. She debuts with “That’s what I’m gonna do” (#75), “Too old too soon” (#76) and “Restart” (#78). And last but not least Annalisa also debuts with two songs from her latest album. She is in with “Le parole non mentono” (#91, “Words don’t lie”) and “Bianco nero e grigio” (#92, “White, black and grey”).

Week 395 – September 22^nd, 2018

During the last week’s I hadn’t really time to write reviews, but this week there is another one. Let’s start with my Top 10. There is a new #1. After two weeks at the top Norwegian singer Matilda is reaching #1 with her hymn “You” (#1). I knew it is a LGBT song, but this song definitely works for me. Matilda replaced Emma and her current single “Mi parli pano” (#2, “Talk to me slowly”) at the top spot. Still at the podium is “Thru these tears” (#3) by LANY. Also non-moving in my Top 5 are “In ein paar Jahren” (#4, “In a few years”) by Christina Stürmer and “One more red light” (#5) by Cassadee Pope.

Close to a Top 5 spot is Luke Sital-Singh. His song “Rough diamonds fall” (#6) climbed up two spots and should reach the Top 5 in a one week or two. In the shadow of this song “Between you and me” (#7) by One Bit & Louisa Johnson and “High on life” (#8) by Martin Garrix feat. Bonn also rose up two spots. As there are no new songs in this week’s Top 10 the last two spots are going to two songs which dropped three spots. The first one is “Heat” (#9) by Kelly Clarkson. The other one is “I did something bad” (#10) by Taylor Swift.

This week’s greatest gainer is “Sicherer Hafen” (#20, “Safe harbour”) by Austrian band Tagtraeumer. It took them seven weeks to reach my Top 20 with this song. For this week’s new entries you have to look outside the Top 80. The highest one is by Norma Jean Martine. She debuts with two more songs from her debut album which are more jazzy than her other songs or her latest cooperation singles. She debuts with “Butterfly’s dream” (#88) and “I’m still here” (#89). Norma Jean Martine is followed by Carrie Underwood who debuts with her latest single “Love wins” (#90). One spot behind you can find Cher’s ABBA cover “SOS” (#91). Last but not least a duet by Tom Odell and Alice Merton debut. It is “Half as good as you” (#94).

Week 396 – September 29^th, 2018

Last week Matilda scored her first week at the top of my chart. This week she defended the title with “You” (#1). She opens a Top 10 which is characterized with only a handful position changes. In fact the first change happened at #7. So “Mi parli piano” (#2, “Talk to me slowly”) by Emma, “Thru these tears” (#3) by LANY, “In ein paar Jahren” (#4, “In a few years”), “One more red light” (#5) by Cassadee Pope and “Rough diamond falls” (#6) by Luke Sital-Singh are non-movers this week.

The first new song in this section is in at #7. It is “Immer wenn wir uns sehn” (#7, “Always when we met“) by LEA feat. Cyril. This song is one of a few soundtrack songs reaching my Top 10. It is a good song, but I doubt that this song will end up as #1. 2nd new song is one spot behind. It is “Wild” (#8) by Catherine McGrath. For her it “Wild” is her first Top 10 hit which is absolutely great because “Wild” is her first charting hit. These two new songs are followed by two songs which dropped. One is “Between you and me” (#9) by OneBit feat. Louisa Johnson. The other one is “High on life” (#10) by Martin Garrix feat. Bonn.

The greatest gainer is “Le parole non mentono” (#36, “Words don’t lie”) by Annalisa. Her album “Bye bye” is a good album and is producing more hits as she had before. “Le parole non mentono” should reach my Top 10 in a few weeks and it is possible that this one could be her first #1. The highest debut is “Head above water” (#52) by Avril Lavigne. She returns strong with her first single in three years. I’m sure that this one will end in my Top 10 and I hope that there will be an album out in the near future.

Week 397 – October 6^th, 2018

For now three weeks “You” (#1) by Matilda is my top song of the week. She defended once more the title although “Mi parli piano” (#2, “Talk to me slowly”) tries to get back at the top. New at the podium is “Rough diamonds fall” (#3) by Luke Sital-Singh. I really like this song, but pushing this song to #1? I don’t know at the moment. Down one spot are former #1 “Thru these tears” (#4) by LANY and “In ein paar Jahren” (#5, “In a few years”) by Christina Stürmer.

The leader of the 2nd part of my Top 10 is "One more red light” (#6) by Cassadee Pope. This country pop song is followed by another song out of this genre. “Wild” (#7) by Catherine McGrath climbed up one spot and is attacking for my country #1. Dropping down one spot is “Immer wenn wir uns sehn” (#8, “Always when we met“) by LEA feat. Cyril. I still think that the rap part isn’t really good, but overall it is a very good song. So now there are two new songs in my Top 10. The first one is by Austrian band Tagtraeumer with their song “Sicherer Hafen” (#9, “Safe harbor”). The other one is by German singer singed to Sony Music Australia Leony! with her recent single “Boots” (#10).

Last week Avril Lavigne returned with her latest single “Head above water” (#33). This week she climbed up 19 spots and received the greatest gainer of the week for this song. In general only eight songs got their debut. The highest one is “Shallow” (#74) by Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper. “Shallow” is a nice song for the film “A star is born”. Other debuts are “Let you love me” (#79) by Rita Ora, “Back again” (#80) by You Me At Six, “This feeling” (#81) by The Chainsmokers feat. Week 398 – October 13^th, 2018

Two more weeks to go and I’m celerating the 400th edition. At the moment it seems that Norwegian singer Matilda then could celebrate her 6th week at the top with “You” (#1). But it also possible that out of the following four songs one could took over my chart. Two of these songs are new in my Top 10 and these are “Halt nicht fest” (#7, “Don’t hold on”) by Ohrenpost “Fuh you” (#8) by Paul McCartney. For Paul McCartney “Fuh you” is his first Top 10 hit with his chart appearance. I really love this song and it is nice to see a veteran artist like him in my Top 10. The other two songs are “Le parole non mentono” (#14, “Words don’t lie”) by Annalisa and “Head above water” (#15) by Avril Lavigne. Only Avril Lavigne topped my chart once before. It had been back in October 2013 with “Rock N Roll” which topped my chart for a single week.

At the moment “You” by Matilda is followed by “Mi parli piano” (#2, “Talk to me slowly”) by Emma and “Rough diamond falls” (#3) by Luke Sital-Singh. Also a non-mover in the top section of my chart is former #1 “Thru these tears” (#4) by LANY. Returning into my Top 5 is “One more red light” (#5) by Country singer Cassadee Pope. Heavily knocking at the door to my Top 5 is another country pop song. “Wild” (#6) by Catherine McGrath also climbed up one spot. These two songs are followed by “In ein paar Jahren” (#7, “In a few years”) by Christina Stürmer. The Top 10 is rounded out by “Immer wenn wir uns sehn” (#10, “Always when we met”) by LEA feat. Cyril.

The greatest gainer of the week is “Let you love me” (#56) by Rita Ora. This song climbed up 23 spots in its 2nd week on the chart. For the highest debut you have to dig deep. It is an album cut by Taylor Swift who debuts with two songs this week. These are “So it goes…” (#83) and “Getaway car” (#84). Other debuts are “Gegen den Wind” (#85, “Against the wind”) by EAV feat. Lemo, “Mad at you” (#86) by Noah Cyrus & Gallant, “Rien” (#88, “Nothing”) by Amel Bent feat. Alonzo, “Signs” (#89) by Hugel & Taio Cruz, “What you waiting for” (#90) by Sigala feat. Week 399 – October 20^th, 2018

This week I can make a new entry to my record book. An extremely rare thing occurred which is that a song outside my Top 5 climbed all the way to #1. Until this week this happened four times. On #4 is “Blue jeans” by Lana Del Rey which climbed from 7 to 1 back in March 2012. In May 2012 Emma climbed from 9 to 1 with “Non e’ l’inferno” (It’s not hell”). The 2nd biggest climb to #1 is “Second chance” by Peter, Bjorn & John back in June 2011 with a climb from 16 to 1. Holding the record is Celeste Buckingham with “Run run run”. This song climbed from 19 to 1 back in July 2012. It lasted more than six years before another song did such a climb. Now German band Ohrenpost is joining this club with an 8 to 1 climb with their 1st #1 hit “Halt nicht fest” (#1, “Don’t hold on”) on my chart.

Last week’s #1 “You” (#2) had no chance and dropped on spot. Also attacking the #1 is Paul McCartney with “Fuh you” (#3) which is his 1st podium on my chart with his first charting hit after a six spot climb. Dropping two spots, but still in my Top 5 is Emma with “Mi parli piano” (#4, “Talk to me slowly”). Also down two spots is “Rough diamonds fall” (#5) by Luke Sital-Singh. Just outside the Top 5 is former #1 “Thru these tears” (#6) by LANY who are debuting this week with the B-side “I don’t wanna love you anymore” (#77). Next in line is Annalisa with “Le parole non mentono” (#7, “Words don’t lie”). Down three spots are the two leading country pop songs. First to mention is “One more red light” (#8) by Cassadee Pope. The other one is “Wild” (#9) by Catherine McGrath. And last but not least let’s welcome back Avril Lavigne. She climbed up five spots with “Head above water” (#10).

The greatest gainer of the week is one more time “Let you love me” (#38) by Rita Ora. This week she climbed up 18 spots. The highest debut is by US producer team Phantoms featuring Vanessa Hudgens. They just missed my Top 50 with “Lay with me” (#51). I really like this song and it should do well over the next weeks. Directly behind is the 2nd highest debut. This song is definitely a reminiscence to the 1980’s which could have been a big hit in the past, but is an actual song which will be overseen by most of the audience. Actually New Kids On The Block, Salt-N-Pepa, Naughty By Nature, Tiffany and Debbie Gibson are touring together and now they released the single “80’s baby” (#52). For all these artists it is their first chart appearance on my chart. In Austria New Kids On The Block charted for the last time back in 2008 with “Dirty dancing”. Salt-N-Pepa only charted two times in Austria and the last time had been back in 1990 with “Let’s talk about sex!” which reached #1. Tiffany only reached once the Austrian chart with “I think we’re alone now” (peaked at #24 back in 1987). Naughty By Nature and Debbie Gibson failed to enter the Austrian chart. Therefore the chance is high that this song will never enter the Austrian chart.

Other debuts are “Two punks in love” (#53) by Bülow, “Sweet but psycho” (#54) by Ava Max, “1999” (#55) by Charli XCX feat. Week 400 – October 27^th, 2018

How time flies! Back in March 2011 I decided to re-start charting and now more than seven years later I can celebrate the 400th edition of my chart. Over these years Anouk, Emma, Kate Voegele, Kelly Clarkson and Taylor Swift have established themselves as core artists. Anouk and Kelly Clarkson had been stars for me before 2011, but the others are “new” ones. Leading artist – although her last album hardly produced big hits – is still Anouk with a record of 18 #1’s. For comparison Anouk is followed by Emma and Kate Voegele who only have eight #1’s. Actually out of my Top 5 artists only Emma has a song in my Top 10 hit which is also her latest #1.

Let’s see which song tops this week’s edition. It is still “Halt nicht fest” (#1, “Don’t hold on”) by Ohrenpost. Behind there is strong concurrence. Up one spot is “Oldie” Paul McCartney. His latest single “Fuh you” (#2) turns out to be a surprise hit for me which I’ve not seen coming. New in my Top 3 is Italian singer Annalisa. Her latest album cut I’m charting is “Le parole non mentono” (#3, “Word’s don’t lie”). It is definitely possible that this song will be her 1st #1 on my chart. This brings me to the question if she could be as big as Emma is on my chart. Maybe not, because her other songs haven’t done well for me in the past. Everything changed with her album “Bye bye” which I’m charting at the moment and I really like as her new single “Un domani” (“Tomorrow”). “Un domani” should be in by next week. Also doing well is the latest single by Avril Lavigne. “Head above water” (#4) climbed up six spots. Rounding out my Top 5 is the former #1 “You” (#5) by Matilda.

Leaving my Top 5 is “Mi parli piano” (#6, “Talk to me slowly”) by Emma which is now the 2nd highest ranked song in Italian this week. Emma is followed by LANY and their only #1 hit “Thru these tears” (#7). I’ve definitely to check out their album “Malibu nights”. Maybe I like it and then you’ll find more songs by them on my chart in the future, but I’ve to check out more albums so it could take a while. Then there are “Rough diamonds fall” (#8) by Luke Sital-Singh, “One more red light” (#9) by Cassadee Pope and “Wild” (#10) by Catherine McGrath.

On the debut side of my chart you’ll only find two new songs which are album cuts from Pink’s album “Beautiful trauma”. She debuts with “Where we go” (#71) and “Barbies” (#72). Both songs have a good outlook, but only time will tell where the journey ends. After two weeks “Let you love me” (#20) by Rita Ora isn’t the greatest gainer. This week this award goes to “Lay with me” (#24) by Phantoms feat. Vanessa Hudgens.
