I was unsure about Broods being #1 for a 2nd week, but in the end New Zealand’s Indie Pop sensation withstand the attack by Madi Diaz. The 2nd single from her 4th album “Phantom” climbed up another three spots. So “Stay together” (#2) is now in the runners-up position and basically Madi Diaz should get her 1st #1 on my chart with her first charting hit by next week. There was only one spot left in this week’s Top 3 which Hilary Duff occopied with her beautiful “All about you” (#3). “Shake it off” (#4) by Taylor Swift and “Places to go” (#5) by Anouk dropped one spot and are completing the Top 5.

With “When you were my girl” (#6) Matt Cardle climbed up one spot and got a new peak. “When you were my girl” isn’t his only song in this week’s Top 10. “Hit my heart” (#8) also did well and climbed up five spots. While I think “When you were my girl” is at its summit “Hit my heart” is ready for higher aims, but we all we see in the future. Caught between Matt Cardle is another singer from Great Britain. It’s the Voice of Germany winner Nick Howard. “Dancing as one” (#7) is his 2nd Top 10 hit in a row which makes him the most successful winner of this show so far. On the way out is “Animals” (#9) by Maroon 5. The Top 10 is rounded out by Walk the Moon’s “Shut up and dance” (#10).

Last week I wrote that you should watch out for “Love me harder” by Ariana Grande feat. The Weeknd. Let’s say it simple. “Love me harder” isn’t the highest new entry. Not even Kate Voegele or Taylor Swift did it this week although the debuted with their new songs. The highest debut is by a new US artist who nearly reached the Top 10 with her first song she placed on my chart. Already with the first listen I fell in love with “Weekend” (#13) by Vérité. It’s a very melodic electro pop gem and absolutely worth listening to it. Vérité could refer the well-known artists in their place, so that “Blank space” (#31) by Taylor Swift is only the 2nd best new entry this week.

After releasing her new EP “The Wild Card” I finally got my copy of it. Kate Voegele’s “Just watch me” (#32) debuts one spot behind Taylor Swift’s “Blank space”. “Just watch me” is a very good song, but I can’t see her at the moment reaching #1 like “Say you’re mine”, “Sandcastles” or “Sunshine in the sky” did over the last years. Maybe the missing link is that the title of the song didn’t start with a “S”. But these are all speculations. A Top 10 spot is within reach and then we all we see how far she will go. Before I write about the next debut I have to write something about the EP itself. The songs are all very interesting even with the more or less country touch, but one song really impressed me. It’s her cover of Ana Kendrick’s “Cups”. I’ve not charted “Cups”, but Kate Voegele’s cover is very good and my favourite of this EP.

Kate Voegele’s “Just watch me” is caught between Taylor Swifts’s and Ariana Grande’s debut. “Love me harder” (#33) is her latest single and this time it is a collaboration with The Weeknd. For the singer it is the first chart appearance. With this debut Ariana Grande is now charting four songs on my chart. At the moment the best performance is showing “One last time” (#23) which has been last week’s greatest gainer. This week Belgian singer Selah Sue got this award with “Alone” (#40). “Alone” sprinted into the Top 50 with a climb of 43 spots after last week debuting at #83.

Among the 16 debuts are several French songs. The other than the mentioned debuts are “Mes silences” (#51, “My silence”) by Chimène Badi, “Aucune autre” (#75, “No other”) by Jonesic, “I loved you” (#85) by Blonde feat. Week 196 – November 29^th, 2014

This is one of the weeks which show low action beside the Top 10. First I can congratulate Madi Diaz to her first #1 on my chart. “Stay together” (#1) is a pretty cool track from her 4th album “Phantom”. With the last climb she passed by the Broods. Their #1 hit “Everytime” (#2) slipped down one spot and finds itself in the runners-up position. Still at the Podium is Hilary Duff’s “All about me” (#3) in its 14th week on chart. The roundel of chart topping hits isn’t over with Hilary Duff’s comeback hit. Two more #1 songs follow in the Top 5. As well as Taylor Swift’s “Shake it off” (#4) Anouk’s “Places to go” (#5) didn’t move this week.

Last week Matt Cardle held the 6th spot with “When you were my girl” (#10) which dropped four spots. This week he replaced himself with his 3rd single from “The fire”. “Hit my heart” (#6) is a mid-temp pop track with a strong melody and absolutely #1 material. Unfortunately he his one of the most underrated winner of UK X-Factor, so that this song wasn’t a huge hit in the UK. But on my chart “Hit my heart” could be his first #1 since “It’s only love” which topped my chart back in July 2013. With this in mind he could get a third #1 from three different albums. Directly behind Selena Gomez’s latest anthem could be found. “The heart wants what it wants” (#7) is the perfect ballad for winter time. On the other hand Nick Howard’s biggest chart success “Dancing as one” (#8) dropped one spot. Beside Selena Gomez’s comeback in the Top 10 Vérité grabbed her first Top 10 hit with “Weekend”.

In the opening statement I wrote that there is low action in this week’s chart. This brings me to the greatest gainer of the week which only climbed up 12 spots. It’s one of the French songs I debuted last week. “Mes silences” (#39) by Chimène Badi did this climb and ended up in the Top 40. “Mes silences” is the only new song in the Top 50 beside Matt Cardle’s enter with “In chains” (#5). Therefore the highest new entry only can be found outside the Top 50 and is another song from “Nashville’s” 1st season. “Looking for a place to shine” (#53) is the first single by Clare Bowen’s alter ego Scarlett O’Conner in this show.

Not far behind a third mashup song by Kutiman is debuting. This time the leading singer is the unknown Erika Anderson. Her song “My vendetta” (#56) brings Kutiman to a new peak on my chart and herself a solid debut. Down the chart four more songs are debuting this week. These songs are “Johnny” (#79) and “Gotta get home” (#80) by 77 Bombay Street, “Hypnotizing” (#81) by Hayden Panettiere and “Sweet talk” (#93) by Samantha Jade.

Week 197 – December 6^th, 2014

With big steps the year is going to an end. At the top of my chart Madi Diaz is continuing her success. “Stay together” (#1) withstand all the attacks and is leading the pack for a 2nd week. New at the runners-up position is Matt Cardle. His outstanding “Hit my heart” (#2) climbed up four spots and it is obviously that he makes a bid for the grown of the chart. In the next weeks he should do the last step to take over. “Everytime” (#3) by the Broods dropped one spot, but is still at the podium. Also doing well but not as good as Matt Cardle is Selena Gomez. Her latest smash “The heart wants what it wants” (#4) climbed up three spots and is also ready for a takeover. The Top 5 is rounded out with Hilary Duff. For the first time since weeks her beautiful “All about you” (#5) can’t be found within the Top 3.

At #6 you find this week’s highest new entry. It’s a kind of a surprise, because none of the artists of this song had a chart entry before. Dash Berlin is a DJ from the Netherlands and released several singles over the last years, but none of these songs made it into my chart. Up-to-date his biggest hits are from 2007 and 2009 when he had some minor hits in the Netherlands and Belgium. Roxanne Emery had no hit before and has done several tours in UK. For “Shelter” (#6) the teamed up and this one could be their breakthrough. “Shelter” is well produced and no dance or trance song for which Dash Berlin is known. It’s more piano driven and the song itself is all about the voice of Roxanne Emery. This gem is a strong song has absolutely the chance to top my chart.

Directly behind this highest new entry former #1 “Places to go” (#7) by Anouk can be found. After 12 weeks this song is on its way out of the Top 10. Which also apply for Taylor Swift’s “Shake if off” (#9) which dropped four spots. Between this two former #1’s is Vérité with her anthem “Weekend”. The 2nd new song in the Top 10 is by Rachel Platten. Her “Fight song” (#10) is completing this weeks Top 10 and is her 1st song in this part of the chart in general.

Looking for the next new entry you’ve to go all the way down the chart to #45. It’s the latest collaboration by Olly Murs. This time with US-star Demi Lovato. Their song “Up” (#45) had a solid debut. Also starting with a solid debut are Australian heroes The Veronicas. “If you love someone” (#53) easily outperformed their 1st single “You ruin me” from their new self-titled album. Unfortunately they were denied a debut within the Top 50. After staying stable for two weeks “I loved you” (#67) by Blonde feat. Melissa Steel is this weeks greatest gainer.

Other debuts are “Real love” (#56) by Clean Bandit feat. Week 198 – December 13^th, 2014

Ten days to go and it is Christmas again. One more week for this year's chart review. Nearly the whole year has been a duel between two songs, but more in my year-end countdown. This week starts with the same chart topper like the last two week. Madi Diaz has made herself comfortable in topping the chart. “Stay together” (#1) hold back all the attacks by artists like Matt Cardle or Selena Gomez and is shining bright from the top spot for a third time. Once again “Hit my heart” (#2) only can found in the runners-up position, but I think this one could be my Christmas #1 this year. Selena Gomez continued her run with climbing up one spot so that “The heart wants what it wants” (#3) is at the podium now which brings her the second Top 3 hit in her career. Last week’s highest new entry “Shelter” (#4) by Dash Berlin feat. Roxanne Emery entered the Top 5 with a climb of two spots. This song is absolutely fantastic and more than a candidate for topping the chart. Former #1 “Everytime” (#5) by the Broods is closing this week’s Top 5.

Hilary Duff’s “All about you” (#6) is losing a little bit of its magic. After dropping out of the Top 3 by last week Hilary Duff dropped out of the Top 5 this week, but she should be in the Top 10 for some more weeks. The actual hymn for the “Weekend” (#7) by Vérité climbed up one spot and is followed by Rachel Platten’s “Fight song” (#8). The only new song within the Top 10 is by Ariana Grande which brings her a third Top 10 hit from “My everything”. Her promotional single “One last time” (#9) is performing a little bit better than her single “Love me harder” (#21) which is on its way into the Top 10. Rounding out the Top 10 is Anouk with her #1 single “Places to go” (#10).

Just in the Top 50 is this week’s highest new entry. It’s another song from a TV series which I’m charting this year. “You’ve got time” (#43) by Regina Spektor is the title song of the Netflix origin “Orange is the new black”. After promoting Netflix for the last months in Austria with this series I listened to this song which I really like now. This is maybe my song of the year from a TV series, but “You’ve got time” will not end up in the year-end Top 100 of 2014 because of its late entry. I think that this song fits the theme of this series well and could reach my Top 20. This week’s greatest gainer is “Sweet talk” (#58) by Samantha Jade who had a #1 with “What you’ve done to me” back in January 2013. “Sweet talk” isn’t as good as “What you’ve done to me”, but it should do well on my chart.

Other than the mentioned new entry are “17” (#74) by Jillette Johnson, “Box of crayons” (#75) also by Jillette Johnson, “Diamond eyes” (#84) by Marié Digby, “Till it hurts” (#85) by Yellow Claw feat. Week 199 – December 20^th, 2014

It has been a long journey this year before this special song “Hit my heart”. Finally Matt Cardle reached his third #1 with “Hit my heart”. This song is probable his best song so far and should outperform “Starlight” (two weeks at #1 and year-end #1 back in 2012) and “It’s only love” (one week at #1 back in 2013). On the other side there is a strong concurrence back him. First to mention is Madi Diaz although she dropped one with “Stay together” (#2). And then there is Selena Gomez. Her wonderful “The heart wants what it wants” (#3) is growing more and more on me. It’s only a matter of time when Selena Gomez will get her second #1 in my chart. Last but no least Dash Berlin feat. Roxanne Emery are also on their way up my chart with “Shelter” (#4). This piano driven song benefits most with the beautiful voice of Roxanne Emery. Personally I see this song at #1, if … . If wishes were horses, beggars would ride and “Shelter” would be #1 for weeks, but as I wrote before there is a high level of concurrence.

This level of concurrence is pushed to another level by this year’s winner of the 4th season of “The Voice of Germany”. Over the last years the winning songs of this show debuted with varying degrees of success in my chart. The first winning single has been the James Bond look-a-like song “Do you like what you see” by Ivy Quainoo. This song – her biggest hit up-to-date – debuted directly at #9 and peaked at #5 back in 2012. Although Mic Donet had to leave the show after the semi-final he did better with “Losing you” (peaked at #2) and I charted his entire album back in 2012/13. The following winner of this show had low success with their winning singles. Nick Howard’s “Unbreakable” (peaked #76 also in 2012) and stayed only four weeks which has been a little bit better than Andreas Kümmert’s winning song “Simple man” (peaked #80 and stayed four weeks in 2013). In the end Nick Howard is so far the best winner of this show as he reached my Top 10 two times this year. This year 21 year old Charley Ann Schmutzler won the show sovereign with “Blue heart” (#5) although her hardest concurrent Lina Arndt sold more copies of her song “Love in a cold room” in the first week. I really fell in love with “Blue heart” with the first listen and so she matched Ivy Quainoo’s peak in its first week and by next week it could be the best performing winner song in my chart.

Despite this lengthy review of “The Voice of Germany” I’m still within the Top 10. “Weekend” (#6) by Vérité is still a candidate for the Top 5, but it will be hard for her to reach Top 3 even though I like this fresh sound. Hilary Duff is continuing her downside trend with “All about you” (#7) as the Broods’ “Everytime” (#9). Between these former #1’s Rachel Platten’s “Fight song” (#8) is holding the spot. The Top 10 is rounded out by Ariana Grande. “One last time” (#10) is still her best performing song in my chart, but it will be hard for her to also get a spot in this part of the chart next week.

Near this week’s Top 10 the next big new entry can be found. I’m very glad I found out about this song last week. It’s “When you were mine” (#16) by Night Terrors of 1927 feat. Tegan and Sara. I knew Tegan and Sara before, but they failed to chart over the last years. Something different is it with the band Night Terrors of 1927. I’ve not heard about them before. This band has been founded back in 2012 by Jarrod Gorbel after the alternative indie rock band The Honorary Title disbanded. Night Terrors of 1927 released some songs since 2012, but after a quick listen I think these songs are not good. “When you were mine” is a different calibre which gives both acts their chart debut and a possible Top 10 hit.

Before I write something about the third highest debut in this week’s chart I’ve to expose who is this week’s greatest gainer. It’s a song from Jillette Johnsons debut album “Water in a whale” which has already given me a great joy throughout this year. “17” (#46) climbed up 28 spots after debuting last week. The third highest debut is by Heino. The most of you will ask Heino who? Heino is a German musician who sold more than 50 million copies in his career. Next year he will celebrate his 60th stage anniversary. His biggest hits from the 1970’s are “Blau blüht der Enzian” (“Blue Gentian blooming”), “Edelweiß” (“Edelweiss”) or “Die schwarze Barbara” (“The black Barbara”), but none of his singles reached #1. The first time he reached a #1 album in Germany had been back in 2013 with his cover album “Mit freundlichen Grüßen” (“Yours sincerely”) of popular German songs.

In December 2014 Heino released his latest album “Schwarz blüht der Enzian” (“Black Gentian blooming”) which has been inspired by his appearance in Wacken where he performed with Rammstein. For this album he rearranged his popular hits. This album is his first rock/metal album. The first single out of this album is the title track “Schwarz blüht der Enzian” (#56) and the cover of his biggest hit "Blau blüht der Enzian" which brought him his first chart appearance. The video to this song plays with the typical rock cliché and you can find the Who’s Who of the German Volksmusik and Schlager in the video too. Stefan Mross plays the rowdy guitarist during the gig. Schlager singer Patrick Linder plays the bass – leather jacket, black eyeliner and wild punk-hairstyle included. Schlager veteran Gotthilf Fischer (86 years old) plays the drums – sits with tattoos painted and a headband on the drums. Then the Schlager duo Judith and Mel are playing the keyboard and the second guitar. And last but not least you should’ve a closer look to the audience. There you can find the Wildecker Herzbuben with their bomber jackets and a grim face. The two Schlager heavyweights are the security personal.(Information in German) All in all the video is very well done.

Week 200 – December 27^th, 2014

The last edition of 2014 is the 200th edition of my chart. 81 songs topped the chart so far and with this edition exactly 2400 songs debuted which are by 1549 artists. It’s a large amount of songs I’ve listened over these years and it’s still exciting to discover new songs and artists. If I’ve not decided to chart again I wouldn’t have every heard of Emma, Jillette Johnson, Matt Cardle or Kate Voegele to name only a few artists who had a lot of success on my chart over these years. But before I get too sentimental, I begin with a review on this week’s edition.

Still topping the chart is the 81st #1 “Hit my heart” by Matt Cardle. Against all odds “Hit my heart” could claim at the top. New at the runners up position is the heart-breaking song “The heart wants what it wants” (#2) by Selena Gomez. Her song is strong enough to take over the chart by next week, but “Hit my heart” should have the power to fend off her attack. The Top 3 is complete by Madi Diaz’s biggest hit “Stay together” (#3) while “Shelter” by Dash Berlin feat. Roxanne Emery missed this part in a tough decision. Last week’s highest debut from the Voice of Germany “Blue heart” (#5) by Charley Ann Schmutzler didn’t move.

It seems that Vérité is tied on #6 with “Weekend”. Last week there had been a chance to enter the Top 5, but the high debut by Charley Ann Schmutzler sat the hopes limits. And somehow this hope vanished this week too. “All about you” (#7) by Hilary Duff clings to a place within the Top 10 while several songs dropped out. Sadly “Fight song” (#11), “Everytime” (#12) and “One last time” (#13) didn’t made it to this week’s Top 10. These songs were replaced by a big hit, an upcoming hit in Europe and a song which is flying under the radar. In at #7 is “Alone” by Selah Sue who is successful with this song in Belgium at the moment, but it’s only a matter of time when “Alone” is entering the charts all over Europe. Taylor Swift is big on my chart and everywhere else. This week she placed another song in my Top 10. “Blank space” (#8), the 2nd official single from her new album “1989”, could build on the success of “Shake it off” (#18). And last but not least Kate Vogele reached my Top 10 the first time after the “Gravity happens” area. “Just watch me” (#10) is her 9th Top 10 hit out of 13 charting songs.

Last week I wrote a lot about Heino’s new single “Schwarz blüht der Enzian” (#28). This week I’ll keep it short. “Schwarz blüht der Enzian” climbed up 28 spots and is the greatest gainer of the week. As last week the highest new entry comes by a German artist. And as last week it’s by an artist who had no chart hit before. Rabaukendisko placed their single “Im Kreis” (#58, “In the circle”) in the near to the Top 50 which gave them a solid debut.

Other debuts are “What if it was” (#82) by Tayler Buono, “Where did U go” (#85) by Midnight Red, “Sippin’ on sunshine” (#86) and “Hello heartache” (#87) by Avril Lavigne, “Bye bye” (#90) by ADICT, “Habits (stay high)” (#95) by Tove Lo and “Reste avec moi” (#98, “Stay with me”) by Ma2x.

Week 201 – January 3^rd, 2015

Movement in my Top 10? Overrated! In the end the first chart of 2014 saw two climbers and one song which dropped in my Top 10. But first things first. In the chart topping position is Matt Cardle’s brilliant “Hit my heart” (#1). In its third week at the top he resisted once again the attacks by his concurrence. Therefore Selena Gomez is still hoping to reach her 2nd #1 on my chart. “The heart wants what it wants” (#2) is ready to leaf the runners up position to be my #1. “Still together” (#3) by Madi Diaz is holding its spot in the Top 3 which brings Dash Berlin feat. Roxanne Emery and Charley Ann Schmutzler to desperate. The brilliance of the soft ballad “Shelter” (#4) by the DJ from the Netherlands and the British singer didn’t help at the moment to climb up. And also “Blue heart” by The Voice of Germany winner is stuck and completes the Top 5.

My favourite hymn to the “Weekend” (#6) by Vérité lost a little bit of its spirit, so it is caught at the spot before the Top 5. At #7 you can find the first of two climbers. It’s the 2nd official single by Taylor Swift. “Blank space” is working better and better and the good video is an allowance. Belgian singer Selah Sue stopped for a moment with “Alone” (#8) to prepare her attack for a better spot within the Top 10. The 2nd climber in this week’s Top 10 is “Just watch me” (#9). Kate Voegele’s leading single from her EP “The Wild Card” is more and more a song for me which could reach the Top 5. This will be hard because of the strong concurrence. The Top 10 is rounded out with the only song which dropped. It’s the former #1 “All about you” (#10) by Hilary Duff which reached a very good spot in my year-end of 2014.

No surprise should be this week’s highest new entry. Italian rock band Modá released a duet with Emma from their live album “2004 – 2014 – L’originale”. “Come in un film” (#28) is the 2nd cooperation between Modà and Emma. Back in 2011 they had in Italy a #1 with “Arriverà” which I never charted, due to the fact that I started charting in March. “Come in un film” is once more a good song by Emma and this song should reach the Top 10 soon.

Last week I debuted late and down the chart Tove Lo’s breakthrough hit “Habits (stay high) – not the remix version. This week “Habits (stay high)” (#51) climbed up 44 spots and so Tove Lo got the award for the greatest gainer of the week. No other song was able to keep up with this song. If this song is rising as fast as in this week it could reach the Top 20 very fast and than everything is possible starting with a low spot in the Top 20 until a spot in my Top 3. Because late is not always bad.

All in all there had been seven new entries this week. The highest “Come in un film” I’ve mentioned so far. The 2nd best I new for some weeks, but I didn’t pay a lot of attention to this so song until now, because the other singles by this artist flopped for me in 2014. When I saw this song at #1 in another year-end review I gave “Mirage” (#56) a chance and now the latest single by Ricki-Lee nearly debuted in the Top 50. Other new songs are “More and more” (#57) by Lilja Bloom, “Used” (#63) and “Nothing in the world will ever break my heart again” (#75) by Hayden Panettiere, “Nightingale” (#76) by Demi Lovato and the retro song “Lovin’ me” (#94) by Maraaya.

Week 202 – January 10^th, 2015

After three weeks at the top of the chart Matt Cardle had to leave #1 with “Hit my heart” (#2). It had been a tough race between him and Selena Gomez in the last weeks with a better end for Selena Gomez this week. “The heart wants what it wants” climbed to #1 in its 9th week on chart and became her 2nd #1 after her smash hit “Slow down” back in 2013. Over the last weeks I would’ve predicted Dash Berlin feat. Roxanne Emery a Top 3 spot. This week their beautiful “Shelter” (#5) dropped one and is now at the end of the Top 5 instead of being under the top three songs. Therefore German the Voice winner Charley Ann Schmutzler’s wonderful sad “Blue heart” (#3) pushed forward into this section. Former #1 “Stay together” (#4) by Madi Diaz is now caught between these songs.

“Blank space” (#6) by Taylor Swift climbed up one spot and is standing right before the Top 5. In her tow rope are two songs which also climbed up one spot. Belgian new superstar Selah Sue can be found at #7 with her super hit “Alone” and new at #8 is Kate Voegele with “Just watch me”. These small climbers are followed by the only new song within the Top 10. It is “When you were mine” (#9) by Night Terrors of 1927 feat. Tegan and Sara. I think that this song is lovely, but how can they came out with a band name Night Terrors of 1927? I personally think that this band name is not very good, but as long as the music is good it doesn’t matter. The Top 10 is rounded out with “Weekend” (#10) by Vérité.

This week the highest new entry is by an artist who had been big in 2014 and I’ve not charted him before. After several hits by Sam Smith never found its way on my chart his latest smash “I’m not the only one” (#42) finally debuted this week. Sure this song had been released in August 2013 as a regular single, but this song is now climbing up the charts in Austria and is getting more and more airplay. This hadn’t been the reason why this song is giving its debut now. Last week I heard the song “Dear life” (#43) by Austin Cain who samples this song and made it to its own. “Dear life” – which can be downloaded on soundcloud for free – also debuted this week.

This week’s greatest gainer is by the Slovenian project Maraaya. Their retro song “Lovin’ me” (#70) climbed up 24 spots in its 2nd week. Beside the mentioned new entries these songs gave their debut: “Chimera” (#68) and “Schiena” (#82, “Back”) by Emma, “Touche pas à ça!” (#78, “Don’t touch it”) by Mademoisselle Lynn, “Meilenweit” (#84, “For miles”) and “Kein Weg zurück” (#85, “No way back”) by 48 Stunden and “Stay gold” (#86) by Josefine Myrberg.

Week 203 – January 17^th, 2015

Edition 203 is a special week. No less than 18 new entries characterize this week which is a new record. 18 new entries are two more than in the previous record. Although there are these massive debuts none of these songs entered my Top 10. So Selena Gomez stayed at the top with her sentimental song “The heart wants what it wants” (#1) for a 2nd week. German Charley Ann Schmutzler climbed up one spot with “Blue heart” (#2). Now the winning song from the “Voice of Germany” is at the runners-up position and the chance is high that my chart will see a first #1 from this show. Charley Ann Schmutzler put Selena Gomez under pressure, but she isn’t the only one while Matt Cardle’s “Hit my heart” (#3) dropped another spot this week. “Shelter” (#4) by Dash Berlin feat. Roxanne Emery climbed back to the previous spot. The former Top 10 debut “Shelter” isn’t giving up for reaching #1. And of course there are this week’s top debuts which all want to reach #1. And finally Taylor Swift reached with a climb of one spot the Top 5 with “Blank space” (#5). “Blank space” is in its 9th week, but you better shouldn’t write her off too.

The Top 6 is opened with the only new song in the Top 10 this week. It’s another song by Jillette Johnson. “17” (#6) climbed up five spots and brings her the 7th Top 10 hit from her debut album. This song is another personal song by her which is growing more and more on me. Last week “17” had been nearly my most played song and I think Jillette Johnson can continue this run. “17” could be her next #1 on my chart. On its way down is “Stay together” (#7) by Madi Diaz. After nine weeks “Stay together” is for the first time not in my Top 5. “When you were” (#8) by Night Terrors of 1927 feat. Tegan and Sara which climbed up one spot and changed the spot with Kate Voegele’s “Just watch me” (#9) is doing better. The Top 10 is rounded out by Selah Sue’s “Alone” (#10).

The end of the Top 10 leads me directly to this week’s highest new entry. I always listened more to female artists than to male ones. Apart from some exceptions like Matt Cardle, Ben Montague or Mic Donet – I apologize by those male artists I didn’t mention – male singers have it very hard. Generally my Top 10 refers to this fact and this week’s highest new entry is no exception (I think next will approve this fact too). Over Ella Henderson’s performance in “Schlag den Raab” I discovered her latest single “Mirror man” which I didn’t chart this week what doesn’t mean I will never chart this song. But “Mirror man” lead me to her previous single “Yours” (#57) which debuted outside the Top 50 and to Jessie Ware. I’ve known Jessie Ware’s single “Say you love me” (#12) before, but because I don’t like her previous work I didn’t pay much attention to this song. Therefore I oversaw this beautiful gem last autumn, but when I gave this song a chance it unfolded its brilliance in its simplicity. “Say you love me” absolutely works for me and I can’t understand why I didn’t charted this song in the past.

Three spots behind Jessie Ware the next new entry from the UK can be found. It’s a song by another female artist, but other than Jessie Ware Ellie Goulding had a big hit on my chart with “Burn” back in 2013. Her latest smash “Love me like you do” (#15) is from the soundtrack of “Fifty shades of grey”. Similar to “Say you love me” I think that this song is brilliant. This time it could be the big hit for Ellie Goulding. The next week’s will show, but I expect much from this song. If "Love me like you do" reaches #1 it would be the first Soundtrack #1 on my chart. Near to these new entries the greatest gainer of the week can be found. Due to the fact that there are 18 new entries this week this week’s greatest gainer is a low climber. “Habits (stay high)” by Swedish singer Tove Lo only climbed up eight spots. As no other song climbed more this week “Habits (stay high)” is the greatest gainer with the lowest climb I can remember to win this award.

Within the Top 40 there are four more new entries. The teen pop song “Wish for you” (#35) by Norwegian newcomer Raylee is leading this pack of new entries. “Wish for you” is fresh, danceable and has a very remarkable refrain, so Raylee could be found much higher next week. “Wish for you” is followed by “Dimenticare (mai)” (“Forget (never)”, #37) by Raige feat. Annalise. While Annalise had some minor hits on my chart before this is the first hit for Raige who put “Dimenticare” as a solo version on his album. Then there is US newbie Zella Day. I first heard about “1965” (#38) last week when FreakyFlyBry charted this song. Because he dropped it this week it will definitely do better for me than for him. And last but no least I gave “Criminal” (#39) another listen. It finally profited and debuted within the Top 40.

Week 204 – January 24^th, 2015

Last week the breaking news had been that there had been a massive of 18 new entries with two in my Top 20, but none in the Top 10. This week sees 10 new entries with two in my Top 10. This means that songs I would’ve predicted for a #1 are now out of the run. Both new entries are by artists who had #1’s on my chart. Before I start with them I’ve to write that Selena Gomez is still at #1 with “The heart wants what it wants”. Despite these two Top 10 new entries her love song could hold the top spot and is now leading the pack for a third week in a row. For a 2nd week at the runners-up position is Charley Ann Schmutzler’s “Blue heart” (#2). It had been tough this week, but a nuance lead me to “The heart wants what it wants” again. The podium is completed by Jillette Johnson. In her 2nd week in the Top 10 “17” (#6) climbed up another three spots. “17” is her 4th song which reached the Top 3 and at the moment the only one of these songs which didn’t end up reaching #1.

2014 had been the first year since 2012 when Kelly Clarkson had no #1. In 2015 she could turn around with her highly anticipated new single “Heartbeat song” (#4). “Heartbeat song” is her 12th Top 10 hit with 11 alone from her last album “Stronger”. “Heartbeat song” is continuing where her “Stronger” area ended. She is producing more and more hits and it will be hard for the artists to keep pace with her. The 2nd new entry in the Top 10 is also by a band which had no big hit in 2014. It’s by Finnish boy band Satin Circus. In 2013 they entered with their super catchy “Emma” (four weeks at the top) and “If you love me” (one week at the top). After these two single it had been a little calmer around theme. Their third single from their debut album “Expectation” flopped and peaked at #93. In general their debut album had no influence on my like Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger”. Their new single “Crossroads” (#7) had been described by scandipop.com as a mixing of Mumford & Sons and Ace Wilder. And of course “Crossroads” is no song which could be compared with One Direction like their single “Emma”. “Crossroads” is a pretty cool song for the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna this year. I’ve listed to all songs by the Finnish contestants. In my opinion no other song has a chance to represent Finland in Austria.

Between these new entries are “Hit my heart” (#5) by Matt Cardle and “Blank space” (#6) by Taylor Swift. “Stay together” (#8) by Madi Diaz only lost one spot this week. Behind this song is the third new song in this week’s Top 10. It’s by Jessie Ware. Last week “Say you love me” (#9) debuted at #12 and this week this beautiful song entered the Top 10 which brings her the first Top 10 hit. A week ago I thought that the chance is high that this song will top my chart in a few weeks, but after these two Top 10 debuts I’m not sure. As always the time will show where “Say you love me” will peak. After debuting at #4 “Shelter” (#10) had written #1 all over it. In its 8th week on chart I’ve to declare that this song is now out of the race to #1. Dropping down six spot means that Dash Berlin feat. Roxanne Emery are now closing this week’s Top 10 and this is normally their last week in this section.

The new ones in the Top 10 replaced some good ones. Two of these three songs are in their 10+ week and one drop out is a little surprise. Kate Voegele’s “Just watch me” (#14) dropped five spots and accompany Selah Sue’s “Alone” (#15) out of the Top 10. The surprise drop out had been “When you were mine” (#11) by Night Terrors of 1927 feat. Tegan and Sara. “When you were mine” is in its 6th week on the chart and now after two weeks out of the Top 10. I think they could return next week if there is no unexpected factor which I don’t see currently. The greatest gainer of the week did way better than last week “Habits (stay high)” did. “Moment like you” (#46) by US-newcomer Lia Marie Johnson climbed up 43 spots after debuting a week ago.

Other than the mentioned debuts are “Fire N gold” (#47) by Bea Miller, “Honest” (#59) by Kodaline, “A little too late” (#83) and “Not over you” by Matt Cardle, “Leya” (#89) by Thorsteinn Einarsson who had been part of the Austrian talent show Die Große Chance, “Doing it” (#90) by Charli XCX feat. Rita Ora, “Tonight” (#91) by Chasing Grace and “A contre sense” (#92, “A sense against”) by Shaniz feat. Maître Gims.

Love seeing Charli and Kelly debut

Week 205 – January 31^st, 2015

In the last two weeks my chart was inundated with several high new entries. For a third week in a row there are two high new entries. But this week none of these songs reached Top 10 in its 1st week. This opened the way for Charley Ann Schmutzler. Her beautiful “Blue heart” (#1) did the last step and reached #1. Charley Ann Schmutzler is the first German act since last year in September at #1 when Juli topped the chart with “Insel” (#71) for one week. For Selena Gomez’s “The heart wants what it wants” only the runners up position was left over this week. Jillette Johnson defended the spot at the podium with “17” (#3) while Kelly Clarkson’s “Heartbeat song” (#4) didn’t move. This similar to the beginning of the chart run of “Shelter” (#13) by Dash Berlin feat. Roxanne Emery which never reached the Top 3. I’m sure that “Heartbeat song” won’t have the same fate. In the meanwhile Satin Circus scored their 3rd Top 5 hit with “Crossroads” (#5) with a climb of two spots.

Former #1 “Hit my heart” (#6) by Matt Cardle is now out of the Top 5 after eight weeks in this part of the chart. Also “Blank space” (#7) by Taylor Swift dropped one spot. These little droppers are followed by “Say you love me” (#8). Jessie Ware’s first Top 10 hit climbed up one spot and is doing very well so far. Back in the Top 10 is “When you were mine” (#9) by Night Terrors of 1927 feat. Tegan & Sara. After a one-week-break they return strong at #9. The Top 10 is rounded out by Madi Diaz’s “Stay together” (#10).

Close to the Top 10 is Ellie Goulding. Her song “Love me like you do” (#11) climbed up two spots and is more than ready for the Top 10. “Love me like you do” could be the first song of a soundtrack in my Top since re-starting back in 2011. Ellie Goulding is followed by my favourite Austrian band at the moment. Tagträumer celebrate their 4th chart hit without having an album out. Their latest single is “Tagträumen” (#12, “Daydreaming”). It’s another wonderful, well written song by them. They are riding on the wave of success and I can’t see when it will end. “Tagträumen” is clear shot for Top 10. Another #1 by them? It’s possible, but there are so much good songs in my Top 10 that it will be hard, but not impossible.

A new Swedish artist – in Sweden she is well known – can be found on my chart. With “Phoenix” (#16) Molly Sandén managed an impressive start. It’s her first independent release too. Two days ago the video for this song was released. It’s a good one, but I’ve seen better ones in the past. The song itself is a little bit darker which I always like and the text is very direct. The sound is fresh and unique. With this debut in the Top 20 a Top 10 spot in the future should be in distance. A little bit down the chart this week’s greatest gainer can be found. It’s “Chimera” (#19) by Emma. “Chimera” climbed up 19 spots and is now the first week in the Top 50.

Another new Swedish act is leading a pack of new entries. This new band is called Hurricane Love. They entered with the fresh and catchy folk song “Nowhere to go” (#59). Directly behind is “Right here” (#60) by Jess Glynne. “Right here” had been her first solo single and was released a while ago. Last week I heard a cover version of this song and now “Right here” gave its debut. Then there is Swiss Schlager singer and DSDS winner Beatrice Egli. The 2nd single of her 3rd album in three years “Wir leben laut” (#61, “We live loud”) has a solid debut. This Schlager song goes in the direction of Helene Fischer’s monster hit “Atemlos durch die Nacht” (#1 selling song in Austria). “Atemlos durch die Nacht” peaked within the Top 20 and if “Wir leben laut” can develop as good as Helene Fischer’s song it should also reach a peak in the Top 20. Until then “Wir leben laut” outperformed all her other chart entries in the first week on chart.

Other new entries are “Empty words” (#62) and “Shut up” (#100) by Christina Aguilera, “Anthem” (#90) by Ida LaFontaine, “We builts this house” (#95) by Scorpions and “My house” (#99) by PRVIS.

Week 206 – February 7^th, 2015

Somehow Charley Ann Schmutzler managed to defend her position at the top with “Blue heart” (#1). Last week I thought that this song would only stay one week at the top, but “17” (#2) by Jillette Johnson failed to climb up two spots. “The heart wants what it wants” (#3) by Selena Gomez also failed to climb back to the sun shining spot. Interesting to see is that those top debuts of week 204 are caught at their last week’s position. So Kelly Clarkson’s “Heartbeat song” is still at #4 and Finish boy band Satin Circus is still at #5 with “Crossroads”.

Other high debuts are doing a little bit better this week. First to mention is Jessie Ware with her first Top 10 hit. “Say you love me” (#6) climbed up another spot and is now in front of the Top 5. Then there is Ellie Goulding. Her song from the film “Fifty shades of grey” is now in the Top 10 after a climb of four spots. “Love me like you do” (#7) is also the first song of a soundtrack in my Top 10 as I mentioned last week. Going down the Top 10 is former #1 “Hit my heart” (#8) by Matt Cardle. “Hit my heart” lost two spots, but it is still a very good song. This is just as true for “Stay together” (#10) by Madi Diaz which is holding #10 for a 2nd week. Caught between these former #1’s is “When you were mine” (#9) by Night Terrors of 1927 feat. Tegan & Sara.

Immediate before an entry in the Top 10 are last week’s highest new entries. Austrian pop rock band Tagträumer are now in the leading position. Their latest smash “Tagträumen” (#11) climbed up one spot. The dance gem “Phoenix” (#12) by Molly Sandén climbed up four spots and is now directly behind Tagträumer. Both songs are in the position to do this last step which is required to enter the Top 10. While you’ve seen several debuts within the Top 20 over the last weeks, there is no debut which can be found in the section this week.

The highest debut is by Austrian band EAV. “Was ist los” (#27, “What’s happening) failed to entered the chart as high as Tagträumer last week, but a debut within the Top 30 is still good. EAV is my favourite band of my youth. When I grew up they had several hits like “Ba-Ba-Banküberfall” (“Ba-Ba-Bankrobbery) – this is still my favourite song by them –, “Märchenprinz” (“Prince Charming”), “Fata Morgana”, “Küss die Hand, schöne Frau” (“Kiss the hand, pretty lady”) or “Ding Dong” to name only a few of their hits of the 1980’s or early 1990’s. They made a name for themselves with their comedy and socially critical songs. Best known for the social criticism is their Austrian Top 10 hit “Burli”. After releasing several weak songs “Was ist los” is in the direction of their older songs with the biting social criticism. “Was ist los” is quite a good song which I predict a Top 10 entry in the future (I hope this prediction occurs).

The 2nd best new entry is by Swedish artist Zara Larsson. At the moment she tries to conquer the US market with her first hit “Uncover” which had been big for me in 2013 when it peaked at #6. So far this one has been her only Top 10 hit, because her other charting songs failed to do as well as this song. For example “Rooftop” peaked only at #17 and dropped out of the chart this week. “Weak heart” (#31) is her latest try to enter my Top 10. This week “Weak heart” got a solid debut near the Top 30. The chance is good for this song to enter the Top 20, but if she reaching the Top 10 with this song is hard to predict at the moment.

Week 207 – February 14^th, 2015

Finally Jillette Johnson took over the chart with “17” (#1). In its 10th week on chart “17” outperformed every other song including last weeks #1 “Blue heart” (#2). Charley Ann Schmutzler’s debut single is now in the runners-up position. New at the podium is “Heartbeat song” (#3). Kelly Clarkson left #4 after three weeks and is now competing for next week’s #1. It should be a tough decision although I’ve in mind which one will be #1 by next week. In the fairway of “Heartbeat song” is “Crossroads” (#4). Finnish boy band Satin Circus return very strong with their latest single which in my opinion should represent Finland in Vienna during this year’s Eurovision. Maybe this is Selena Gomez last week in the Top 5 with “The heart wants what it wants” (#5). This song dropped two spots and is now closing the Top 5.

The following two songs are the same as last week. At #6 “Say you love me” by Jessie Ware and at #7 “Love me like you do” by Ellie Goulding can be found. Even though I think these songs are great, they didn’t move this week. These two songs are followed by the first of two new songs in the Top 10. The first one is by Swedish singer Molly Sandén. Her dance song “Phoenix” (#8) climbed up four spots and passed by the highest new entry of the same week when “Phoenix” debuted. The mentioned song “Tagträumen” (#10) by Tagträumer also reached Top 10 for the first time. Caught between these songs is former #1 “Hit my heart” (#9) by Matt Cardle. For Matt Cardle could it be the last week in the Top 10 with this song.

After several weeks with higher new entries you’ve to look outside the Top 30 to find this week’s highest debut which is a country pop song. Carrie Underwood released her first single from her “Greatest hits” which brought “Little toy guns” (#35) a solid debut. Over the last years she had some hits including her #1 smash “Good girl” back in 2012. Directly behind is the 2nd best debut. It’s “Tomorrow” (#36) by Madi Diaz who had recently a #1 hit with “Stay together” (#11). While “Stay together” dropped out of this week’s Top 10 “Tomorrow” – although no regular or promotional single at the moment – is at the beginning and should reach at least the Top 20. The actual promotional single “The other side” (#60) from her 4th album “Phantom” debuted outside the Top 50. Between these new songs by Madi Diaz is the greatest gainer of the week “A little too late” (#51) by Matt Cardle.

Other debuts are “King” (#59) by Years & Years, “My mistake” (#92) by Cam, “All hands on deck” (#92) by Tinashe, “Orphan” (#94) by Toto and “Baby love” (#95) by former Terry Poison singer Petite Meller.
