This is based on overall stats up to this point.
Ivette:Hello friends, it's Ivette on the road getting ready for Big Brother 7:All-Stars. I'll show you the top 50 songs on MWC in midyear.
50 Joanna Pacitti - Let It Slide (10 shows, 1@1, 645 pts, Avg Per Show:64)
Even after only logging in 10 shows, Joanna Pacitti has become one of the more dangerous artists on the MWC lately. With a debut of #10, a stint at #1 and a low of only #15, she's really made her mark early on.
49 D.H.T. - Someone (20+ shows, #4, 650 pts, Avg:around 25-30)
Many question marks will be answered wondering how this song is #49 on the midyear. D.H.T. did have the #10 song on the IDRL Endchart for 2005 with Listen To Your Heart, but with the way this song went you might as well not expect a repeat of that.
48 Pussycat Dolls - Stickwitu (30+ shows?, #2, 650 pts, Avg:around 20)
Despite not having a high average, Pussycat Dolls make the first of 3 appearances on the midyear chart. Stickwitu is their monster hit on IDRL with 9@1 but 3rd best here, giving the fact this song first came out in 2005 and took a while to enter the 2006 MWC chart.
47 Sugababes - Ugly (30+ shows?, #3, 659 pts, Avg:around 25)
Sugababes have 2 appearances on this list. This song was the staple from their Taller In More Ways album on IDRL & MWC which really set the bar high for them. Ugly did as much damage as it could during its 30 show run before falling off sometime ago.
46 Nick Lachey Featuring Vanessa Minnillo - What's Left Of Me (14 shows, 1@1, 669 pts, Avg:47)
Nick and his video co-star tore up the chart for a strong 14 shows and is hanging on for dear life right now. He lands at #46 with this song, but will his 2nd single match this success? Only time will tell. This debuted pretty decent but got off to a nice run later on.
45 Melissa O'Neil - Speechless (10 shows, 5@1, 689 pts, Avg:69)
Look at Speechless' run. 1-1-1-4-2-4-4-2-1-1. This song's low is only #4 and debuted at #1 while staying there 3 straight times, before returning back on top 5 shows later and having another 2 straight shows on top. This is only Melissa's first of 3.
44 P.O.D. - Goodbye For Now (20+ shows, #3, 703 pts, Avg:32+)
This is a song that left its mark, boy did it leave one indeed. P.O.D. spent a solid run on and got to #3, but couldn't seal the deal. Therefore, they maxed out there but still did quite a number.
43 Daniel Powter - Bad Day (35+ shows, #10, 718 pts, Avg:20+)
This is one of 3 songs that peaked at #10 on the MWC to appear on the midyear report. Daniel stayed steady but just could never go past #10 on the countdown. What a nice run it had, here's to his next single doing the same or even better.
42 Natalie Featuring Bun B - What You Gonna Do (19 shows, #2, 731 pts, Avg:39)
In 2005 it was Anna, Christina and Natalie battling for #1 when Cassie Steele disrupted the party and finished the MWC year on top with Bluebird which ended up finishing 5th on the overall endchart. Natalie was #1 on that endchart, but things are not the same here as she settles at #42 with What You Gonna Do, but please remember that the video hasn't come out yet so it's had an amazing run to this point. Please no Beyonce comparisons now.
41 Hawthorne Heights - Saying Sorry (25+ shows, #3, 754 pts, Avg:30)
Hawthorne Heights are probably one of the surprise stories of the year. A very strong run Saying Sorry had which was up and down for a while before settling down towards Spring. Unfortunately, HH didn't follow up well with Pens And Needles but we'll see what happens.
40 Girls Aloud - It's Magic (18 shows, 1@1, 754 pts, Avg:42)
If you wanna get in the top 40 of this list, you'll need to find some way to reach 755 pts. Girls Aloud left their mark in 2003-2004 but have done it again in 2006 with hits like See The Day, Whole Lotta History and It's Magic. The latter has spent 18 shows on and hit #1 pretty quickly, but since it's hard fall from the top and the middle of the pack run, GA has fought back to a solid showing.
39 Anna Nalick - Forever Love (Digame) (28? shows, 1@1, 760 pts, Avg:27?)
This song had a damaging run. Forever Love is one of 3 appearances Anna has and when it had about 20 shows on, it finally logged in the top 20. This went to #1 several weeks later, but just as it had a steady run it eventually had a sad ending. Not too bad for Anna considering this is one of her 3 #1 MWC hits.
38 Pussycat Dolls - Beep (30 shows?, 1@1, 765 pts, Avg:25?)
2nd of 3 PCD tracks, this didn't hit #1 on IDRL but went to #1 on MWC once during the BEP v.s. PCD showdown several months ago. There's one more PCD song coming up on this list. Well, what's gonna happen to them?
37 Rihanna - Kisses Don't Lie (22 shows, #7, 766 pts, Avg:35)
Started off slow, fell off for a short time, rebounded hard once full song came out and has been a staple. This is the first of 4 songs from Rihanna on this midyear chart and when KDL is the lowest of the 4, you know she's very high on this list.
36 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Dani California (20 shows, #4, 772 pts, Avg:39)
Anthony and the boys of RHCP get the comeback band award for this song on MWC. Debuted strong, but just couldn't quite pull the punch and maxed out a disappointing #4 and logged in a decent 20 shows on. Anthony told Mike this today after MWC ended, 'I'm disappointed that Dani California couldn't do more damage but with the unpredictability of this countdown, we did all we can.'
35 Jeannie Ortega - Crowded (25+ shows, #2, 778 pts, Avg:30+)
This song started off strong but slowed down tremendously around the start of Spring and ended up sinking hard, not being able to recover. Jeannie does show up #35 on the MWC midyear chart, but you never know.
34 Pussycat Dolls - Bite The Dust (28+ shows, #6, 787 pts, Avg:28)
This is the PCD's 3rd appearance on the midyear report. Bite The Dust had a steady, solid run. Once Buttons came on, Bite The Dust lost its thunder and sunk to doom but not before 28+ shows of power. Will PCD end up with 5 songs on the year-end chart? Who knows what will happen.
33 Nelly Furtado Featuring Timbaland - Promiscuous (20 shows, #2, 800 pts, Avg:40)
Like Kisses Don't Lie, started off real slow, fell off for a bit, rebounded strong and has since stayed top 30. If you want to be inside the top 33, you must accumulate 800+ pts overall. This got to #2 but just couldn't stop Rihanna and since has been outside looking in.
32 Kaci Brown - Instigator (27+ shows, 2@1, 803 pts, Avg:28)
This hit #1 pretty early but fell off a few months ago, not before reaching about 28 shows on the countdown and snagging #1 twice. Kaci wants to match Unbelievable's success but if you look at the big picture, Instigator hasn't left a huge mark on IDRL and thus could hurt her chances.
31 Rihanna - Final Goodbye (12 shows, 1@1, 804 pts, Avg:67)
Final Goodbye is the 2nd of 4 Rihanna songs on this midyear chart. Despite starting at #20, Rihanna destroyed her adversaries by logging in 11 consecutive shows in the top 5 including a stint at #1. This is the biggest non-single of the year according to some people, some would argue it's On The Ride. You be the judge.
30 DMC Featuring Sarah McClachlan - Just Like Me (20+ shows, 1@1, 805 pts, Avg:35+)
This is the biggest 'wtf' of the year according to some people. Rapper DMC teams up with AC Songstress Sarah McClachlan on this song and had a strong run early....but reality took its toll and fell off around Spring time. Though it hit #1, DMC expected to be in the thick of it for a while, he'll take what he got though.
29 Melissa O'Neil - Alive (25 shows?, #8, 813 pts, Avg:31)
This might've been the most dangerous song on the countdown during the Spring. Alive hit the chart for almost 30 shows and even though it maxed at #8, Alive stayed in the top 20 for more than half of its run. Strong run for Melissa and this is her 2nd of 3 songs.
28 Anna Nalick - Breathe (2 AM Rock Remix) (22+ shows, #10, 818 pts, Avg:36)
Anna left a sour taste in the mouth of the competition. This also hit #10 before maxing out, not too great of a run despite her best effort. Never found an mp3 of this song which might've killed its chances of having a strong run. Still, this is Anna's 2nd song of 3 here.
27 Cheyenne Kimball - Hanging On (16 shows, #2, 823 pts, Avg:51)
Cheyenne made her debut with this song in the cusp of the top 10 and almost got to #1, but got stopped hard and since has had a freefall. Cheyenne logged 16 shows though and a strong run to this point. This song is not done yet.
26 Nerina Pallot - Everybody's Gone To War (18 shows, #6, 829 pts, Avg:46)
This British singer was part of the 'Fresh Wave Of Talent' to grace the countdown this year. With a bunch of new singers making the list, it's hard for MWC veterans like Christina Milian, Sugababes and Kelly Clarkson to make a strong run. Nerina stepped in 18 shows and took it all the way to #6 with Everybody's Gone To War. She may be nearing 30, but she wants to be #1 by then.
25 Christina Milian Featuring Young Jeezy - Say I (25-30 shows, 2@1, 847 pts, Avg:30?)
Some would think this had a great run, but when you consider how much damage Believer did in 2005, this is a big disappointment. Christina finished that year in 2nd place on the overall chart and it looks like she might finish around #23-#26 on this year's endchart. Let's not forget she's finished runner-up for the year the last 2 years. 2004:On the verge of taking the crown but Rachel Farris made a last minute push. 2005:Couldn't keep up with Natalie in the end.
24 Flyleaf - I'm So Sick (16 shows, 1@1, 861 pts, Avg:54)
MWC Experts say that Flyleaf is the most dangerous band of the year. With good reason too, this song hit #1 on both MWC and IDRL, but couldn't keep it up in the end and has been sliding since. With 861 total points this year, Flyleaf's 'I'm So Sick' sits in at #24.
23 Atreyu - Ex's And Oh's (26+ shows, 1@1, 861 pts, Avg:33)
Atreyu has tiebreaker over Flyleaf due to more shows on. Ex's And Oh's started off its run in the top 5 and hit #1 pretty quickly. Fell off just about 10-15 shows ago, but even as of now you think Atreyu will be a force for a while. Will their next song follow up to Ex's And Oh's success? Again, only time will tell.
22 Stacie Orrico - I'm Not Missing You (14 shows, #3, 862 pts, Avg:61)
Stacie is aggressive, fearless and focused. I'm Not Missing You pierced its way into the top 10 early and hasn't let go of the top 20 since then. The video is still not out yet so you know that Stacie's run is just getting started. Please release the video soon Stacie!
21 Goo Goo Dolls - Better Days (35+ shows, 2@1, 905 pts, Avg:26)
Not even 905 pts gets you in the top 20. Goo Goo Dolls fell off about 20 shows ago but not before a very strong 37 show run which included a 2-time stay on top as Better Days found its way to #4 overall on the pts chart at one point. Now it sits at #21, but it's gonna be tough for this to fall off the top 50, especially with 905 pts logged in.
20 The Fray - Over My Head (Cable Car) (35+ shows, #7, 954 pts, Avg:27)
With a run pretty similar to Daniel Powter, The Fray left their mark early on by coasting into the top 10, but then they sunk back for a while and kept it in gear for a total of 35+ shows. Nobody knows if The Fray's 2nd single will follow up well but if it can match Over My Head's success, they should be group of the year (not Dem Franchize Boys and their Rims).
19 Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten (30+ shows, #8, 975 pts, Avg:32)
Unwritten was her 2nd single and even though this could only muster a #8 showing on the MWC, she did manage to torch the competition for over 30 shows with this catchy dance song. May not be good enough to dominate here, but did quite well. Single hasn't really gotten off its landing area so don't expect that to match Unwritten. Here's to hoping her next song will do much better than this.
18 Rebekah Ryan - You Think You Got The Right (22 shows, #10, 975 pts, Avg:44)
This is the highest showing for a song that failed to get higher than #10 on the countdown. Rebekah started off strong, got to #10 and hung in there. But then she slipped and fell out of #1 contention, still though she is making her prescence felt on this countdown with her upbeat song and her voice that moves the mind. She managed to get in 22 shows to this point and still going.
17 Rascal Flatts - What Hurts The Most (18 shows, #3, 999 pts, Avg:55)
With a run of top 20 consistency, Rascal Flatts have lit up the countdown for 18 shows with their slow song of destruction 'What Hurts The Most'. This song has been able to spend a day at #1 on IDRL and is a very likely contender for IDRL Song Of The Year at the Fans Choice Awards. With Life Is A Highway on the rise, you think they can't be stopped right? Keep it locked on MWC the next couple of weeks to see how strong they remain. This song just missed the 1K club.
16 Cascada - Ready For Love (30 shows, 2@1, 1,007 pts, Avg:34)
This song had a fantastic start, but has had a dismal mid-end run. You must muster over 1000 pts just to even sniff the top 16 and Cascada is only one of 3 artists this year to have done that more than once. Ready For Love logged in 30 shows and is still going strong, even with 2 shows on top.
15 Cascada - Everytime We Touch (44 shows, #7, 1,028 pts, Avg:23)
Everytime We Touch has been on the countdown since show #14 this year and hasn't stopped since. EWT has also been on the verge of falling off numerous times even after a decent #7 peak, but they keep coming back for more. 44 shows its been on which is among the top 10 longest runs this year so far, though #7 is not a great showing overall no matter how you look at it.
14 Kelly Clarkson - Walk Away (30+ shows, #3, 1,061 pts, Avg:30+)
Disappointing run for Kelly since this is her only song to do well this year. In the end, she beat Goo Goo Dolls and Natasha but couldn't grasp ahead and maxed on the overall chart at #3 in total points before sinking hard to #14 which we find Walk Away now located at. Will this change? Will she continue dropping? You need to find out for yourself.
13 Sugababes - Red Dress (43 shows, 1@1, 1,075 pts, Avg:25)
Red Dress has had a rollercoaster run in being the 2nd song from Sugababes here. The beginning was a slow effort, the middle run got them to #1 on the start of Spring and on the first Summer chart they jumped 61-9. This is truly a feelgood story of the year as Sugababes are looking to get their first #1 on the endchart ever. Will these British girls manage to do this? You think you got the answer, but you don't have a clue.
12 Delta Goodrem - Innocent Eyes (33+ shows, #3, 1,077 pts, Avg:31)
Delta's aggression got her to over 33 shows on and a solid #3 peak. She used every bit of her strength and airplay to get there and managed to finish its run with over 1070 pts and is likely to be top 50 on the endchart, unless 40 other songs reach the 1077 mark which is extremely doubtful. Throw in the IDRL success and she could very well finish top 30 on the endchart.
11 Plumb - Better (30 shows, #3, 1,092 pts, Avg:36)
Just missing the midyear top 10 at #11 is Plumb and if it wants to be back in the top 10, it's gonna need quite a run. Plumb began the run on show #28 and managed to take us on a 30 show tour at this point with a high of #3 and just under 1,100 pts overall. Quite an effort, but is this song's run over? Only the coming weeks will decide Plumb's fate.
10 Angela Ammons - Walking Backwards (22 shows, #2, 1,092 pts, Avg:50)
Angela pushes Plumb aside to take #10 on the midyear chart. With only 22 shows under its belt and a #2 peak, Angela's been redhot. This song has almost reached the 1100 mark but will definitely reach like 1250+ or something like that by the end of its magical run, and doing this without a video which is astonishing. Yet another reason why new artists have left their mark in 2006.
9 Laura Cheadle - Lay Me Down (30 shows, #4, 1,147 pts, Avg:38)
If you look at it in different ways, Laura's magical run has been showcased for 30 long shows and is finally showing some power with 4 straight top 10 showings. This song entered on show #28 but hasn't slowed down since its debut. Eventually Laura managed to get to the #4 spot (show #57) and has logged in 1147 total points which is incredible, especially considering it has been consistent all year. Maybe this could possibly be the #1 song of the year? She'll need a lot of luck to do that though if you wanna beat Rihanna and Aly & A.J. to take the #1 crown.
8 KT Tunstall - Black Horse And The Cherry Tree (33+ shows, 1@1, 1,197 pts, Avg:34)
KT started off slow but got dangerous quickly and managed to hit #1 in March, then began a slow descent and eventually bucked down after 33+ shows and almost 1200 total points, good enough for only #8 on the midyear chart. You really need high scores to even sniff the top 10.
7 Melissa O'Neil - Let It Go (35 shows, 2@1, 1,349 pts, Avg:39)
Melissa started her run on show #23 at the #40 position and got us thinking, 'Ok, she'll probably have a short run.' She proved us wrong as Let It Go took it to #1 twice and has been on a whopping 35 shows plus a total of 1349 pts which is incredible for something to happen, and still it's only good for #7 on the midyear. You got heavy hitters in the top 6 here, Let It Go wants a part of the action but if she continues to fall behind, #7 is as far as she's going.
6 Rihanna - Unfaithful (27 shows, 11@1, 1,561 pts, Avg:58)
11/27 shows at #1 is quite the masterpiece. This is only Rihanna's 3rd appearance of 4 on this midyear chart as Unfaithful became a staple on the countdown. With its moving music and soothing vocals, Rihanna torched the competition for 27 shows and a whopping 1561 pts. You gotta think, 1561 pts is good enough for #1 right on the midchart? Wrong, just #6. Certainly you'll see this much higher during the next couple of months and don't be surprised if this is still a #1 contender by December.
5 Aly & A.J. - On The Ride (44 shows, #2, 1,649 pts, Avg:38)
This is only the first of 3 Aly & A.J. songs on this midyear chart. Aly & A.J. left a mark quickly on and gave Unfaithful a run for its money, but just couldn't quite do it. 44 shows on, #2 peak and a big 1649 pts was a fantastic run for them and yet it's only #5 on the midyear chart because 4 songs were stronger than On The Ride.
4 Aly & A.J. - Sticks And Stones (44 shows, 1@1, 1,705 pts, Avg:39)
The strongest non-single on this midyear chart. Whether you like it or not, Aly & A.J. left a mark with Sticks And Stones and yet it's only their 2nd appearance of 3. This took us on a 44 show run with hitting #1 and a total of 1705 pts. Normally it's good for top overall but it's #4 here. So much competition, these girls thrive on it.
3 Rihanna - S.O.S. (43 shows, 1@1, 1,931 pts, Avg:45)
Spending most of her run in the top 20 and only 1 show on top, Rihanna marks her 4th appearance on the midyear chart which is the most this year. After starting off solid, she pushed to #1 quickly and never stayed out of contention (just until this week) and even though she's losing steam with it, S.O.S. is truly a dangerous song. 1934 pts, 43 shows and that 1@1 showing and it's only #3 on the midyear chart. Amazing huh?
2 Anna Nalick - In The Rough (57 shows, 4@1, 2,442 pts, Avg:43)
Anna is making her 3rd appearance with the song In The Rough. She finished #19 on the 2005 endchart and based on its stats this year, she is a #1 contender. In The Rough opened at #1, took us on a 4@1 spree overall and logged in 57 shows to stay a force. She has a killer 2,442 total points which seems like is the mark to beat right? Wrong, it's only #2 here. What song could possibly out-do In The Rough's 2442 pts?
1 Aly & A.J. - Rush (57 shows, 8@1, 2,445 pts, Avg:43+)
This song can. Aly & A.J. began its run at #3 and lit up the countdown for 57 shows while nabbing 8@1 and a godlike 2,445 total points which is just enough to snag the #1 song on the midyear chart this year. It's pretty much between Unfaithful, Rush and In The Rough for #1 on the endyear chart, but we still have half a year to go and songs like Speechless, Lay Me Down and Let It Slide are challenging for the crown. As for Rush, Aly & A.J. make their 3rd appearance and this truly became dominant, especially with that massive 80@1 run on the IDRL countdown, but with a message attached. It's a response to those who are fans of Beyonce and Chris Brown by saying, 'Don't say I have atrocious music taste for hating them and liking Aly & A.J., it's not thoughtful of you. I love Rush and I don't care if it is Disney packaged or Urban music, it's my right.'
Ivette:Wow, that's a lot. Well, i've been Ivette and this has been the MWC Midyear In Review.
