The worst 20 songs of 2005, according to Sam. This is based around my weekly 10 worst songs of the week.
20 Jesus Of Suburbia - Green Day
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 2 HP: 4
3 of the most overplayed songs on radio this year have been the 3 latest green day songs, to the point where I just cannot listen to any of them. The other two, 'wake me up when september ends' and 'boulevard of broken dreams' don't make this list but could easily be lumped in with this song.
19 Over - Lindsay Lohan
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 0 HP: N/A
I can't stand lindsay lohan or her voice. Very ordinary stuff and a crap chorus in this song.
18 Take My Breath Away - Jessica Simpson
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 60 HP: 1 (1 week, in 2004)
A horrible rendition of an old song by Jessica Simpson. Very disappointing to see how far she's fallen following the brilliant 'I Wanna Love You Forever'. This was #2 on my worst songs of 2004 and bad enough to remain on my chart for many weeks this year!
17 La Tortura - Shakira
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 7 HP: 3
Yet another one of those annoying female voices that somehow seem to be popular in the world, and they make it worse by throwing a terrible male vocal in there as well!! This has no hook and is extremely bland.
16 Drop The Pressure - Mylo
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 22 HP: 4
Now here's an interesting one. The sheer repetition in this song annoys the crap out of me. In fact I'm certain this song gave me a migraine one night! Ironically, I find 'Doctor Pressure' to be a very good song and will most likely be in my top 50 songs of the year!!!
15 Shake It Off - Mariah Carey
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 4 HP: 10
'You gotta ssshhh-shake it off'. One of the more irritating lines of the year, quite unimaginative and horribly repetitive. Not to mention the terrible video clip.
14 Soldier - Destiny's Child
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 18 HP: 2
Perhaps the worst destiny's child song of the lot, very boring and another crap video clip.
13 Jingle Bells - Crazy Frog
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 3 HP: 5
The crazy frog strikes, ruining a christmas carol. thankfully this song won't be heard of after a week or so.
12 Axel F - Crazy Frog
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 7 HP: 4
Crazy frog strikes again, with the 'song' that started it all. Hearing this song during the day in every single ad break for mobile phone ads, and then enduring it for 20+ weeks as a full CD single is cruelty. please some kill the frog!
11 Fly - Hilary Duff
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 24 HP: 5
Another terrible video clip, coupled with Hilary's appalling whiny voice and a crap chorus leaves no room for any positives to be found about this rubbish.
10 Bounce - Sarah Connor
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 79 HP: 1 (10 weeks, in 2004)
This is the veteran of my worst songs chart, having 'debuted' on it on June 20 2004 and, once I've done this week's chart, been on every single chart of mine for the past year and a half. A truly laughable chorus and a pissweak hook.
9 Popcorn - Crazy Frog
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 2 HP: 5
This song is Axel F, only worse.
8 How Come - D12
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 74 HP: 2 (8 weeks, in 2004)
Another veteran of my worst songs list and another that will have made every one of my charts in 2005 after this week's chart. This was, imo, the worst song of 2004 and the 'grapevine' line still kills me on this one.
7 You Had Me - Joss Stone
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 62 HP: 1 (16 weeks; 9 in 2004 & 7 in 2005)
Another voice I can't stand right here, and another song that will have spent all of 2005 in the worst songs chart.
6 Mockingbird - Eminem
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 43 HP: 2
This song made way for Green Day only this weekend just gone. A very corny chorus with more of eminem's whining propels it to the 6th worst song of the year.
5 Pony - Kasey Chambers
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 45 HP: 2
I hate Joss Stone's voice. I hate Shakira's voice. I hate Hilary's voice. I hate Eminem's voice. I hate Linsday Lohan's voice. I hate Chad Kroeger's voice. I hate the Crazy Frog. But nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to the torture Kasey Chambers's voice inflicts on my ears and no doubt many others. She has some great songs but the voice kills just about every one of them. Unfortunately she's australian and very popular here so I'll have to put up with her for years to come....you north americans are lucky on that front! This is a very ordinary song too which makes it worse. Should never have been a single.
4 Have A Nice Day - Bon Jovi
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 20 HP: 2
This is very, very weak crap and very similar to the last pile of rubbish they came up with. Bland, inoffensive american crap with no hook is how I sum it up. The sad thing is this shit gets played on radio often here in australia at the expense of local bands who are far, far better in what they do.
3 Photograph - Nickelback
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 11 HP: 1 (8 weeks and counting)
The horse comes up with another crap song. Crap vocal, stupid lyrics (rhyming photograph and laugh like that? give me a break!), and one of the worst video clips of the year. What I said above applies here too; why does shit like this get played when local bands who are far better at what they do get ignored!?!
2 Ass Like That - Eminem
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 25 HP: 1 (16 weeks)
Eminem comes up with another terrible song that falls into the just lose it/without me category. A throwaway song with terrible lyrics that display a poor sense of humour from eminem. The chorus is bearable but the rest of it is so bad it brings even that down to a low level.
1 Do Somethin' - Britney Spears
Weeks in Worst Songs chart: 48 HP: 1 (21 weeks)
Perhaps this song isn't that worse than the 3 or 4 previous, but then I don't expect crap like this from britney the way i expect it from eminem/nickelback/bon jovi. She lost the plot big time here. This song's melody could've been created by a 5 year singing random shit in the bathtub it's that mundane. The vocal is horrible and makes britney's voice sound even worse than it already is, there is no feeling here, the melody's one of the worst ever and the lyrics are pointless. Thank god she's returned to a bit of form with 'and then we kiss'... If I never hear this song again I will be so very, very happy.
So there you have it! Not too many songs released this year that I found to be absolutely terrible....but that only means there'll probably be an influx next year.
20 Jesus Of Suburbia - Green Day
