Bush Breaking 12-Year Album Drought Pianist/songwriter Kate Bush will break a 12-year album drought this fall with the double-disc set "Aerial." The album will arrive Nov. 7 in Europe via EMI and a day later in North America via Columbia. First single "King of the Mountain" will be available Sept. 27 at a host of digital download sites. The artist, now 47, exploded onto the British singles chart with her debut 1978 hit "Wuthering Heights," which held the top spot for four weeks and went on to become an international breakthrough. She went on to have a string of hits with "Babooshka," "Running Up That Hill" and "Don't Give Up", a duet with Peter Gabriel. But she disappeared from the spotlight following her 1993 album "The Red Shoes," which debuted at No. 2 in the United Kingdom and No. 28 on The Billboard 200. Since then, the next phase of Bush's recording career has been the focus of routine speculation, while her influence was clearly heard in the music of Tori Amos, PJ Harvey and Bjork. In October 2001, the artist whet the appetite of her devoted fanbase during a presentation at the annual Q Awards in London. While delivering her acceptance speech after winning the publication's accolade in the classic songwriter category, she told the audience, "I am actually making an album, [but] it's just taking longer than I thought," she said. Three of the artist’s albums -- "Never For Ever," "Hounds Of Love" and "The Whole Story" -- have reached No. 1 in the United Kingdom. www.billboard.com/bb/daily/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001051420

Amazing!! I usually don't get the comparisons between Kate and Tori, but certainly there might be some influence there and even with Björk, but PJ Harvey?? Oh well, those 4 ladies are the best women in the music industry.

Ugh! "Aerial" sucked sooooo much. With the exception of "Mrs. Bartolozzi" the rest of the double set was really bad and extremely tame compared to what she could do with it. A horrible album, not in the sense that the songs are terrible (even if some of them really are), but in the huge expectation that were created up to the release of the album. So disappointing

So disappointing It is understandable that Aerial did not live up to expectations. I think it was a very good album but not among her best work. Realistically, how could Kate live up to the expectations of not releasing an album in 12 years? The hype was huge and there really was no way Kate would have ever lived up to the hype and massive expectations her fan base has built up over the twelve year period between The Red Shoes and Aerial. I certainly did not listen to it as often as Hounds of Love, The Dreaming or The Sensual World, but I did enjoy the album. However, I had realistic expectations about Aerial, so I cannot say I was really disappointed. Most artists creatively peak around the mid to late 20's, so I did not expect Kate to create an album along the same level as Hounds of Love or The Dreaming.

However, I had realistic expectations about Aerial, so I cannot say I was really disappointed. Most artists creatively peak around the mid to late 20's, so I did not expect Kate to create an album along the same level as Hounds of Love or The Dreaming. I see, well, it's true, the hype was just too much, but lemme tell you a lil' secret: I became a Kate fan more or less a year before "Aerial" was released, so I wasn't waiting for more than a decade like other fans. I mean, if Tori (with ADP), or Björk (with Medúlla) can still make good music, why Kate can't? The album was way too slow moving (and I love slow music, go figure...) and there weren't enough hooks to draw me in in the first listens. I really tried to like it (last.fm proves it) but seriously, many fans felt the need to defend the album just because it was Kate. She just became an old lady with nothing to tell and boring music to make. I hate (more or less ) to say this about her, but "Aerial" was a big... HUGE failure musically. Nothing can change that impression it made on me. Sure, I heard it received good press, but I don't see why. Songs like "Joanni" are beyond vile, specially cause earlier reviews said it was a soaring song with great music and stuff, and I hate the way she says "Johnny Johnny" (should it be Joanni? ) Or the boring "Pi" now, I don't care if all singers would sing this lyrics for all their songs, but couldn't she create exciting music for such horrible lyrics? She lost it. Even when Tori made Scarlet (my least favorite of hers) which I considered very tame, with no risks taken, songs with the same endings, all songs sounding the same, too adult contemporary and blah blah, there were still good songs below all that. Aerial? no, only Mrs Bartolozzi... and ok, even King of the mountain. Sorry for all the bashing, I know banet likes it and might want to kill me right now, but I let it out already ;D ps - Oh Jess, i brought back this thread from the death, cause even as much as I disliked the album, I still consider Kate to be a good artist, and well, I'd hate to admit it, but "Aerial" is better than 90% of the album threads in this particular forum...
