Hey, I just realized I hadn't given my opinion on this album yet!
Heh, silly me!
I think this album is very much impressive. Not many artists can go from one musical direction to the next, but Kelly does, and she does it so well that it's hard to peg her down! But then again, Kelly was never easy to peg down, considering all of her singles have sounded different from one another. All they have in relation to one another is fantastic vocals! ;D
Onto the album...
Breakaway -
Everyone knows this song. It just wont die! I was very excited about it at first, but it got whored all over radio, and that got me tired of it. It managed to peak at #9 on my personal chart, and although it hung around the low teens, it never managed to re-enter the top 10. Now, I easily skip the song on the CD. It's nice to hear every once in a while, but for now, I'm burnt out on it. 8/10
Since U Been Gone - The official first single from the album is 3 minutes of fun, pop/rock bliss. Managed to log three weeks at the top of my chart, having shown longevity before that (it's still charting, so it's hard to tell whether it'll stick around or not). The production and Kelly's vocals drive this song, as the lyrics are a bit wobbly. Solid 9.9/10.
Behind These Hazel Eyes - Kelly's new single. When it debued onto my chart, it was the highest debut (surprised?
) It's been flying up my chart ever since. Lyrically, it's pretty damn good. Vocally, greater than great (Come on, it's Kelly we're talking about!!). Production, awesome. It's very easy to get into, and it automatically makes you want to get up and have fun, even if that's not what the lyrics are about. I'd give this a 9.7/10. It's a better song than "Since U Been Gone", but the former is catchier.
Because Of You - The fan favorite. Unfortunately, it's not mine. I think this is a nice song, but it just doesn't call out to me so much. It seems kind of boring. Lyrically, it's quite good, and the production flows pretty well with the song, but it's not that impressive. Even so, 8/10.
Gone - This is one of the less poppy songs on the album. Maybe that's why it doesn't appeal to me as much?
Anyway, this is my least favorite song on the album. The lyrics and the vocals are awesome, but the production I don't really care for. 7/10
Addicted - Awesome track. It took me a while to get into this song, since after "Behind These Hazel Eyes" I was losing interest in the album, but I'm glad I did. This is a very dark-ish track, and Kelly knows how to work it. Like a model owns the runway, Kelly owns this song. The lyrics and production are flawless. 10/10
Where Is Your Heart - My favorite track on the album! Call me a sucker for a ballad, but this song is awesome. Kelly shows the emotion that is needed, and then some. It all goes very well. Lyrically, it's awesome, and the production is great as well. 10/10
Walk Away - It was a relief to come upon this song. After "Since U Been Gone", I was afraid this would become a wrist-cutting song! Finally, another song where the production is upbeat, even if the lyrical content isn't too bright. This was my favorite for a while. 9.5/10
You Found Me - Some people mentioned that this song reminded them of Hilary Duff's "Come Clean". The opening geetar cords are very similar to that song, but that's really about it. I was very much a fan of "Come Clean" - it peaked at #5 on my chart - but this beauty is different, really. The only similarity is the catchy factor, to be honest. It's nice to come across, since it's the only love song here. For a minute there, I thought Kelly was depressed!
Anyway, this is a simple love song. Gotta love it.
9.2/10
I Hate Myself For Losing You - The third verse in this song kills me. You can hear Kelly's anger and pain, all in one. She truly does sing with her heart on her sleeve. Anyway, this song isn't as catchy as others on the album, but it still draws your attention. 9/10
Hear Me - For a while there, this song was just...
there. It didn't impress me, it didn't annoy me. But I realized it was because I wasn't really paying attention after "Walk Away" - usually because I would have it on repeat, LOL. So I gave this a shot, and it blew me away. The production here is very dark, I think, and it draws you in. The lyrics are something everyone can relate to, although I myself don't care about relating to it as much as I do just hearing Kelly. Took me some time to get into it, but now that I do, no regrets. 9.5/10
Beautiful Disaster (Live) - When I first got the album, I was like
. Why the hell is this song here? It's from "Thankful"! Turns out Kelly felt the song's production on the other album didn't flow with the lyrics, but as she had no control over her album, her opinion was ignored. So, while on tour, Kelly decided to strip it down to just her voice and the piano. It works pretty well, but I couldn't get into the original, and this one works to make me fall asleep more than anything. Nice song, but ignoreable. 8/10
