Here are the rules for Song Contest #3: 1. Each round, you submit your song to me either by uploading it to yousendit.com and PMing the link to me...or by sending the song to me over MSN. There is no - under any circumstances - posting (or telling another contestant via e-mail, MSN, or other means) what song you entered in each round until that round is over. That way, submissions shall remain anonymous until voting is complete for a given round. 2. Submissions may not be commercially released singles (retail or radio). They must be album tracks or obscure songs. So no trying to sneak in the latest hit single by your favorite artist. 3. All links will be provided by me in one single post as made by me, so that nobody posts a song & has people listen to it beforehand. 4. As I said in rule #1, songs will remain un-listed until the round is over. That way, specific artists need not be judged based on who they are. Once I receive your song with ID tag filled out, I will make the necessary changes to the tag before posting a link, in order to maintain the song's anonymity. 5. Once voting in each round is opened, you will need to PM your votes to me, ranking them from most favorite to least favorite. And, of course, you may not vote for your own entry. 6. You may still cast votes in rounds after you're eliminated, however, I'm not waiting. Once I receive votes from all active participants, voting will be closed regardless of if I have votes from all eliminated participants or not. The sign-up period will stay open until Saturday evening at 10:00 PM Eastern Time. So make sure you sign up to play if you haven't done so yet!!! I'll let you know when you can begin submitting your songs to me.

Do foreign singles count as obscure?

The idea is to submit a song that you're 95% positive nobody has heard before. It's also ideal to submit a song by an artist that you think most people would be unfamiliar with.

Okay, that shouldn't be a problem.

2. Submissions may not be commercially released singles (retail or radio). They must be album tracks or obscure songs. So no trying to sneak in the latest hit single by your favorite artist. I have a question about this rule. In the last contest, I submitted songs by Christian artists since hardly anyone in the contest every heard of them. So to me, they are "obscure". But, the songs I submitted, they were releases to Christian radio stations. So, can I still follow the same logic I had for the last round? Or am I completely prohibited from submitting songs on Christian radio even if they are by "obscure" artists? EDIT: I guess this goes along the same lines as the foreign singles question.

As The Max said, the rule is to prevent people submitting known songs. I think that if some mexican artist released a very successful single in spanish only here in México, it would be ok to submit it to this game since probably no one knows it. That's the logic I followed...

Right...
Foreign singles and Christian radio singles are fine. Like Ari and Mike both said...it's just ideal to submit something that most of the rest of the participants wouldn't be familiar with. When I said "no radio singles," I just meant no one should try to submit "This Love," "I Want It That Way," "Toxic," or something like that.
Jay, you should be able to just follow the same logic you followed in the last round. Kworb, foreign singles should be all right as long as they're not widely known in other parts of the world.

I would also argue against submitting something from an album that most people here would also know. Like something from an Avril Lavigne CD, for example.

I don't know about this extension of that rule. Doing that REALLY limits the amount of music some people could submit. I think keeping it at album tracks and obscure artists will keep the song full of fresh tracks!

I agree with Jay on this one. Ideally, it would be great for people to submit music from only lesser-known artists. But because the type of music that most people on M4BCC listen to - whether it be Pop, Rock, Urban, etc... - is mainstream, I'd be severely cutting down the possibilities for submissions if I made a "No songs by popular artists" rule.
So as it stands now, the rule is: It's okay to submit songs by Popular artists, but no widely-known mainstream hit songs allowed.
