If this doesn't really qualify for placement in this category, please feel free to move it. But since it has to do with a TV show, I thought I'd put it here.
This isn't from North America, but it's interesting, since we DO have Big Brother here to.

Her being told would essentially be her ticket out of the show, since that of course violates the premise of being cut off from the outside world. But since her father requested that she not be told, I'd say the producers are in the right.

If he requested she not be told, then that's right, but if he didn't, they are some sick f*cks for no telling her.

this has made big headlines down under!!!
she made an agreement 2 be cut off from the outside world until she was evicted so she should not be informed imo!!!
if she was really that concerned about her fathers well being she would never of entered the house in the 1st place if he was so sick!!!
the media hypes everything up, the family n in particular the father who died didn't want an issue out of this aswell as not wanting the contestant 2 know until once she was evicted but the media as usual starts shit all the time!!!
big brother has had it's day, i wish it would get the boot!!!

I agree. I don't see a problem with it, as long as the producers are following her family's wishes. It would be a different issue if the family wanted her to be told, but the producers were refusing to tell her.

I don't get the appeal of any of these shows tbh.

I don't get the appeal of any of these shows tbh. Me neither. I enjoyed "Big Brother" and "Survivor" in their first season (2000), but the whole concept has now become played-out, boring, and trite. The novelty has worn off.

she was evicted in 2nites show!!!
Big Brother evictee in tears over dad Sunday Jun 10 21:34 AEST Big Brother housemate Emma Cornell spent the night crying after she was informed of her father's death on Saturday night ahead of her eviction tonight.
She appeared late in Sunday night's show after she was, as predicted, eliminated from the show but only briefly addressed the issue of her father's death as highlight reels of her time in the house were shown.
Cornell, 24, said she wanted to grieve with her family, who she met immediately after she left the Gold Coast house.
"I want to leave it alone tonight as was my father's wish," she told the show's host Gretel Killeen.
Cornell's father Ray died from cancer about three weeks ago and it was his dying wish that his daughter not be told of his death until she was evicted from the Gold Coast compound.
Controversy followed the announcement by Big Brother and Cornell's family that she wouldn't be told until her eviction.
She was told her father had died by her brother Matt, with the show's resident psychologist in the room, on the eve of her first chance at being evicted from the show.
Big Brother producer Kris Noble said last week that when she was eventually informed of the death, it would be a private moment and this was confirmed in a statement released by producers tonight.
The statement added: "Like all Emma's supporters, Big Brother looks forward to hearing Emma tell her own story."
