lol, we've been behind by four years for a while, it's about time they did something about it here.
A daze of their lives By Garry Williams September 12, 2004
CHANNEL 9 will go ahead with its controversial move to dump about 2000 episodes of its daytime soaps Days Of Our Lives and The Young And The Restless.
Fast forward ... Peter Recknell and Crystal Chappell in Days. More than four years worth of plots will be condensed into two one-hour specials, Days Of Our Lives - A New Day, screening tomorrow at 1pm, and The Young And The Restless - The Next Chapter on Tuesday at 1pm.
Some cynics would say the shows move so slowly that not much will be missed except thousands of shots of actors staring into the middle distance. Even Nine's director of daytime programming, Lauren Sidler, agreed.
"It's fair to say the shows became a bit dull," she said.
"Days, in particular, was in dire straits. But about a year ago its head writer (James E. Reilly) returned and there has been a real resurgence in the US. Fast-forwarding was the best way to capitalise on that and help revitalise the shows."
But Sidler admitted some good moments have had to be sacrificed. For the record, here is a guide to those "lost" storylines.
Days Of Our Lives:
THE Salem Stalker. His victims include Abe Carver, Maggie Horton, Caroline Brady, Roman Brady, Tony DiMera, Doug Williams and Alice Horton.
WEDDINGS, including those of Bo and Hope, Victor Kiriakis and Nicole (essentially, he marries his stepson's wife), and Kate and Roman.
ALTHOUGH in love with Sami, Brandon marries Angela to get access to a tape that implicates Lucas in the murder of Franco, and help Sami consequently reclaim custody of her son Wil.
The Young And The Restless:
CONTINUING saga between Victor and Nikki Newman.
BRAD and Ashley marry and have a baby.
SHARON kills Cameron, a man she met in a bar, and covers up the murder.
JILL Abbott discovers her arch-enemy Katherine Chancellor is her birth mother.
IT IS revealed Victor Newman is the real father of Ashley's baby - this storyline is revealed a couple of shows before the new episodes begin.
While Sidler said it was easy to be flippant, the decision was not an easy one.
"We know the shows have loyal and emotional following and we have tried to be respectful about the way we have done this," she said.
"We haven't cut any corners. We sent a crew over to the US to do these specials properly.
"Some fans are still upset, of course, but there's been plenty of positive feedback."
After the move, Australia will still be six to nine months behind the US.

I used to be addicted to Y&R. My mom got me hooked when I was 9 or 10. Thankfully, those years are long behind me. I still watch it occasionally when I visit my grandmother. The writing is usually quite good, for a soap. The other show she watches is Passions - the absolute worst written, worst acted show I've ever seen.

I'm sure they can condense a whole lot more with soaps. For instance, don't they take an eternity to resolve a storyline? I mean, quit beating around the bush and just TELL THEM WHO'S YOUR DADDY! I've seen Y&R a couple of times. It's just frustrating how they drag on the bloody story. What a waste of time and energy to write about this @#$%!

Well, in the last year on Days 15 people have died, and it turned out none of them really did.

Well, in the last year on Days 15 people have died, and it turned out none of them really did. they've killed off someobody EVER? seems to me like the minute someone has "died" they've been replaced, or they will be back after suffering "such and such" thing.. sad really.. and i only say this from the memory of what i saw when my mother was watching "Loving"

On Days of Our Lives only one character has actually "died" and that was Tom Horton because the actor who portrayed him (MacDonald Carey) died. He was the Horton family patriarch so no way would they replace him.

LOL! It's funny because they can do 4 years worth of shows in a matter of a few hours.
I think the current storyline for Days is quite stupid, actually. Interesting but so unrealistic even for this type of show.

The other show she watches is Passions - the absolute worst written, worst acted show I've ever seen. Then I guess I have no taste in soaps...this is the only one I'm really in to. I got into both this and Days from my mom watching them (she doesn't watch any others), but I became bored with Days once the "island" scenario started to unfold. (Side note: I was able to figure out the killer was Marlena even before anyone said so...by process of elimination she was the only one really missing when the tiger attack happened) But really I think the thing about Passions is it's easy to hate the top villains...the things they do can make you want their heads on sticks. (Side note: Those of you astute viewers will recognize the actor who plays Chad in the "Eighth World Wonder" video)
