The auditions were a few months ago but last night saw the premiere of the second season of Australian Idol here in Australia.....last night, tonight and over the next few weeks they are showing the auditions, and some last night were absolutely hilarious!!! I haven't laughed that much in a long time. The live performances won't happen until this year's Big Brother finishes up in a few weeks. If you want to keep up with what's happening you can go to www.australianidol.yahoo.com.au , some of the auditions are on there under 'videos'. Anyway, it is on in a minute or two for tonight so catchya's!!

keep us up to date on the development of the show, and if you think some of the finalists should even be there to begin with..

The top 30 performances start this sunday!! that means our first chance to vote. With the top 30 (last year it was a top 40), there'll be 3 groups of 10 performers over the next three weeks, with the top 3 each week going through, then there'll be a wildcard group of 10 which is selected from the original top 118. So, the actual 'live' performances will have 12 people this year and will go for more weeks than last year. Here is the link to the top 30: au.australianidol.yahoo.com/contestants/top30/I already have one or two favourites, in particular the 'Soul Mama' aka Angie Narayan. Christie Green is also one of my favourites. Oh, and one of the top 30 contestants has pulled out, that being Maya McLean, but that's not shown on tv until tomorrow night. I don't know if she'll be replaced or what will happen.

Wasn't Maya the twin? Oh well, I didn't think she was that good.
My favorites are Ngaiire Joseph, Chanel Cole, Amali Ward, and Billie McCarthy.

supposedly she wasn't coping with having her twin sister there.....in fact in the original audition marcia hines (a judge) said 'no' to her because they had just said no to her twin and she felt that maya wouldn't cope without her twin....
mind you, rumour has it she got a good deal, perhaps with her sister, and that the producers just told her to use her twin to make it more dramatic....but i am not too sure how true that is.
I'm not too sure on this first group, i think only one, perhaps two have what it takes to make it all the way.

the first group of ten were on tonight and i was actually quite amazed/surprised at the high level of quality and talent.
I felt the first and last ones, Anthony and Hayley, were definitely the highlights along with Ngaiire. The others all performed well too although I'd only consider Chanel, Meri and perhaps Courtney for the wildcard round. The top three go through so hopefully that is Anthony, Hayley and Ngaiire.

as it turned out, Ngaiire, Courtney, Chanel and Hayley made it into the top four last night. Out of those four, Courtney, Chanel and Hayley all made it through to the final 3 and therefore are in the top 12 live performances round. I believe they are good choices, and Ngaiire and hopefully Anthony are certainties for the wildcard show I believe.

I just watched the first 10 and the quality was just sensational, way better than American and Dutch Idol. They voted exactly as I wanted, although I'd rather have seen Courtney go to the wildcard round instead of Ngaiire.
I hope Emily and Anthony also make it there, and Meri too. Great group, wonder what the other two will do.

that's the thing - this year's top 30 is perhaps better than last year's. There are many stand outs in the rest of the top 30 as well - it's gonna be one tough choice.
By the way, it's become clear that Maya pulled out because she accepted a role in the touring 'Lion King' live show (only in the Australian performances I think??).

Bad second group... But at least Amali and Angie are through.

correct - the second group was well below what i was expecting. Angie and Amalie were streets ahead of the rest. I am very glad Barry didn't get through. I thought Dan was a good choice as the third one, but his performance was absolutely woeful on Sunday (although a LOT better on Monday). If he improves his song choice he'll do alright.

the wildcard show was on last night and gee, it was a wonderful show. i reckon up to 8 are in with a great shot it was that good. Certainly a lottery.....the top 12 live performances start next Sunday which will be terrific.

Ugh, Ngaiire got robbed. Anthony practically raped that awful song "The Reason", but I guess the judges wanted two guys through to make up for the female domination.

i think anthony deserves to be in the top 12, but it was always gonna be tough with such good singers in the wildcard show....it's odd, because i reckon some of the wildcards are better than some of the top 12, but the top 12 all just performed better when it counted. Speaking of which, you can see the top 12 here au.australianidol.yahoo.com/contestants/ . They are (in order of my favourite): Angie, age 26 Anthony, age 21 Hayley, age 21 Ricki-Lee, age 18 Amali, age 16 Casey, age 16 Dan, age 25 Marty, age 26 Chanel, age 26 Courtney, age 24 Emelia, age 25 Daniel, age 21
