Okay we all have been doing charts for a while, me for a year a month ago, and we've seen a lot of hit first singles. But.....there have also been many cases where the second single kind of goes out of nowhere. I really mean like the first single might hit top 5, but the second goes like top 30. Not like the first one goes top 5, and the second goes top 10. Dramatic things.

In 05 my #1 for the year was Bonnie McKee's Somebody, however the 2nd single "Trouble" only peaked at #40.

Here are a few examples from my chart:
Cherish hit #1 with "Do It To It", but "Unappreciated" only got to #19.
Christina Milian hit #1 with "Say I", but "Gonna Tell Everybody" only got to #26.
The Purple Ribbon All-Stars hit #1 with "Kryptonite", but "Bodyrock" only got to #35.
Gnarls Barkley hit #1 with "Crazy", but "Smiley Faces" only got to #57.
Nelly Furtado hit #1 with "Promiscuous", but "Maneater" only got to #74.
The Similou hit #1 with "All This Love", and never made my chart again.

Easily goes to JoJo - “Leave (Get Out)” hit #1, but the second chart entry from her first album, “Not That Kinda Girl”, peaked at #33.
Tyler Hilton, Justin Timberlake, Fiona Apple, and Low Millions would probably come next.

Not like the first one goes top 5, and the second goes top 10. Dramatic things. I think alot depends on if you are 'sold' on the artist or the song. If your sold on the artist, almost everything they do (and other's that you are sold on) will do well. If you just sold on songs, every other song thats out has a effect on each song, and the song does well (or poorly) based on the other songs, not only itself. The size of the chart, how long songs are let linger on the chart, and the number of new releases can have a major effect on both personal charts and even radio playlists.

2nd single you say?
Well, an obvious one is Mary J. Blige. She got to #1 with Be Without You but failed to even chart with Enough Cryin and it's been downhill for her ever since. She hasn't even charted once since BWY fell off.
KT Tunstall is another example. She hit #1 with Black Horse & The Cherry Tree but failed to make the top 10 or so with Other Side Of The World. Same with Daniel Powter whose Bad Day went top 10 and Lie To Me didn't.
*Sugababes are another example if you can really consider Stronger a first single since it was the first I ever heard from them. Shape or Supernatural or whatever the next was, couldn't even dent the chart.....but since then they've either gone top 5, top 10 or top 20.
Even Ashanti is thrown in the discussion. Only U dominated my chart but Don't Leave Me Alone/Don't Let Them failed to match any real success.

Bo Bice: The Real Thing - #1 (4 weeks) - 2x Platinum U Make Me Better - #18
Mary J. Blige: Be Without You - #1 (3 weeks) - 2x Platinum Enough Cryin' - #17
Ashlee Simpson: Pieces Of Me - #2 - Gold Shadow - #20
Beyonce: Deja Vu - #4 - Gold Ring The Alarm - #15
Jennifer Lopez: Get Right - #6 - Gold Hold You Down - #15
Pink: Trouble - #8 - Gold God Is A DJ - #19
Those are the best examples I can give. Fortunately, Mary, Ashlee, Pink and Beyonce all managed to rebound with future singles.
