Something I noticed.
Their was a huge bombardment of rock tunes in the April - end of July that really took a strangle hold over my chart. But their follow-ups (with a few exceptions), haven't really lived up to the pedestal set before them.
Examples.
Weezer: Beverly Hills - #4 We're All On Drugs - #18
System Of A Down: B.Y.O.B. - #3 Question! - #25
Coldplay: Speed Of Sound - #1[1] Fix You - #14
Foo Fighters: Best Of You - #9 D.O.A. - DNC
Green Day: Boulevard Of Broken Dreams - #6 Holiday - #19
However, some artists like the Gorillaz, My Chemical Romance, and now Hawthorne Heights have exceeded the expectations from their previous singles.
I think it might have to do with the fact that I wasn't a huge fan of either of the latest singles (meaning, there are better choices on the album) from those artists.
My suggestion to go back to success: Weezer - This Is Such A Pity Coldplay - White Shadows System Of A Down - Revenga/Violent Pornography
Green Day has brought it back to par with WMUWSE, and Jesus Of Suburbia would be the icing on the cake.

Weezer's "This is Such a Pity" is a good song, so I agree with you there.
Personally, I like System should release "Radio/Video" or "Lost in Hollywood"
