Britney Spears - Oops!...I Did It Again. Britney Spears - Lucky. Natalie Imbruglia - Torn. Michelle Branch - All You Wanted. Michelle Branch - Goodbye To You. Avril Lavigne - Complicated.

I'm just gonna base this on my Top Songs of All Time...
So, we'll just call this the "if I charted or HAD BEEN ALIVE" list, these would have been huge:
Fleetwood Mac, "Go Your Own Way" The Beatles, "Yesterday" Etta James, "At Last" The Turtles, "Happy Together" Journey, "Don't Stop Believin'" Elton John, "Your Song" John Lennon, "Imagine" Michael Jackson, "Billie Jean" Madonna, "Like A Prayer" The Kinks, "You Really Got Me"

"Music" by John Miles in 1976, one year before my chart. It would have been battling for the top spot though with 10cc's "I'm Mandy Fly Me". Those were my top 2 singles of the year 1976.
There have also been great songs that I didn't chart for various reasons even though I was charting at the time. The last classic not to chart was "Stay Young" by Ultrasound. They did go on to top the chart with "I'll Show You Mine" and reach #2 with "Floodlit World".
So what happened to Stay Young? Not sure - I was living and working in Belgium at the time and would come to the UK and buy some singles and hear some others on the top 40 show but didn't listen to it every week. Somehow that single just passed me by and I didn't pick it up to buy it until later in the year, by which point it was too late to chart it.
