AVRIL LAVIGNE It has not been a good 2004 for Avril. After Don't Tell Me went to #1 for 2 days in the Spring, she hasn't seen the top since. My Happy Ending went to #3 and fell off, while Nobody's Home sits at a #5 peak right now. Can she fight back?
ANASTACIA Left Outside Alone was Ana's only hit this year with 6@1. Since, she never charted.
HILARY DUFF Since Come Clean retired, Hilary hasn't tasted #1. Our Lips Are Sealed and Fly flew as high as #2. That's all.
DESTINY'S CHILD Lose My Breath just stormed on with 6@1, but has faded and Soldier is looking sloppy with a #31 peak. Uh-oh.

Beth Hart didn't chart until well into 2004 after starting the year at #1 with 'Leave The Light On' but that's because of lack of songs released.
Same with David Usher only unlike Beth, he still hasn't had a followup single while 'Surfacing' remains among the year's biggest hits.
Jason Mraz is in David's shoes all the way with 'Curbside Prophet'. Among the biggest hits of the year but no followups.
Everyone else with a #1 has followed up suitably.

Beyonce didn't do much I liked after 'me myself and i' made it to my #1. Same with Jack Johnson, and The Darkness as well to an extent. The others have been fine.

EvanescenceAfter "My Immortal" hit #1, "Everybody's Fool" only managed a #20. They did recover with a #1 and #2 from their next album. Blink 182Neither "Down" nor "Always" were able to even make the top 60 following the #1 success of "I Miss You". Ever since this, neither of the bands formed from Blink 182 members has made the top 40 either... so in this case, #1 was a curse. Hoobastank"The Reason" was one of the biggest hits of the year, but "Same Direction" failed to even make the top 50. "Disappear" and "If I Were You" both made the top 20, but to date, they have not yet had another top 10. Britney SpearsShe had 3 #1's in a row (Me Against The Music, Toxic, Everytime), but "Outrageous" stumbled and only peaked at #28. Similar case for "Do Somethin'", which peaked at #25 after "My Prerogative" reached #1. More recent hits and follow-ups: Since hitting #1 with "Broken", Seether has only charted once, and that song ("Remedy"), was a huge flop! Avril Lavigne followed up her first 3 #1's from "Under My Skin" with the #60 flop "He Wasn't" (the other single, "Fall To Pieces", did go top 5 though). Similar case on "The Best Damn Thing", as "Hot" could only reach #16 following up 3 #1's. Maroon 5 is slowly climbing with "Sunday Morning", but it's hard to tell whether it'll be a suitable follow-up to "She Will Be Loved". EDIT: It peaked at #15Ryan Cabrera has made top 10 with "True". Kelly Clarkson is climbing fast with "Since U Been Gone", which should be a top 10 hit. (Aside from rumoured single "Gone", she has reached #1 7 times in a row; however, "One Minute" will likely break the streak). "Soldier" and "Rich Girl" both did moderately well as did U2's "All Because of You".

Ashlee Simpson - Shadow failed to go top 5 after "Pieces Of Me" hit #1 for 5 weeks
MisTeeq - Scandalous hit #1 for 2 weeks but couldn't even chart with "One Night Stand"
Maroon 5 - Have yet to score a top 5 single. "Sunday Morning" may or may not be able to break the pattern.
Hit Follow Ups: - Avril looks like it will be the third #1 single off "Under My Skin"
- Hilary scored 25 weeks on the chart with "Come Clean", 3 weeks at #1 for "So Yesterday", and now 2 weeks for "Fly", which is showing some great legs.

Aaliyah Before my chart came on the internet, "Miss You" spent 3 weeks at #1. Ever since then, she's never made my chart.
Beyonce' After "Naughty Girl" spent 3 weeks at #1, "Dangerously In Love" and "The Closer I Get To You" both failed to chart.
Brandy "Talk About Our Love" spent one 1 week at #1 - she hasn't charted since.
Hilary Duff "So Yesterday" and "Come Clean" both spent 2 weeks at #1. "Our Lips Are Sealed" failed to make the top ten and only made it to #12.
Evanescence Their first 3 singles made it to #1 on my chart, but "Everybody's Fool" only made it to #11.
Kylie Minogue "Red Blooded Woman" spent 2 weeks at #1 - "Chocolate" didn't chart.
Britney Spears I am not sure if this counts, but just in case, I will count her. She hit #1 for 5 weeks with "Me Against The Music", hit #2 with "Toxic", failed to make top ten with "Everytime" (it made it to #13), and will (probably) never make my chart again.

The biggest example this year is Alicia Keys.
After four consecutive #1s spanning two years (Fallin, AWW, HCYDCM?, and Gangsta Lovin' with Eve), she's failed to even threaten the pole position. YDKMN was almost dead in the water, stalling in the upper teens before struggling to #5 and freefalling off the chart. "If I Ain't Got You" was a slow burner, a great song, and the biggest R&B hit of the year, but, unfortunately, it stopped at #5. From there on, it's been disaster after disaster. "Diary" flopped in comparison, peaking at #20 with just nine weeks notched in. Then her "monster" duet with Usher went D.O.A., spending just three weeks on and managing a #34 peak. "Karma," her newest release, just debuted, but I'm doubtful of its ability to top the chart.
Following up three consecutive #1s (SIB, Faint, and Numb), Linkin Park's "Lying From You" had a fairly mediocre run. It stalled out in the teens, managing a #11 peak, before plumeting off the chart. Linkin Park has made up for it, however. "Breaking the Habit" became their biggest hit on the chart after spending five weeks at number one.
Blink-182 received their first #1 this year with "I Miss You," but has been unable to follow it up. "Down" peaked at a drowsy #19 and "Always" hasn't charted amongst confusion of whether it is or is not the next single.
Following the monster #1s "Hey Ya" and "Roses" and the top ten hit "The Way You Move," OutKast has been trouble getting their later singles to hit. Andre's "Prototype" crawled to the #18 spot and is now backing down the chart. Now Big Boi's "Ghetto Musick" is on hold and yet to chart over confusion whether, in fact, it'll be released.

MUSIC FROM SAILOR MOON I may be nuts to be saying this, but I do chart songs from all areas, including latin and anime songs. Serena Tsukino is a good example. Who Do You Think You Are hit #1 twice, but her next appearance was with Usagi CD Single, when it just missed #1 by a few spins. We're not sure where she'll go from here.
JOJO Poor performance from Baby It's You when it peaked somewhere in the middle of the top 10. She flopped with this song. She also took too long to get a top 10 run going.
HOOBASTANK Disappear was a HUGE disappointment which peaked at #50, after Same Direction had a magical #1 run going which saw it re-enter at #1 then.

DEEPEST BLUE - After two #1's with Deepest Blue and Give It Away, third single Is It A Sin did not chart and Shooting Star peaked at #24.
USHER - After #1 with Yeah, Burn peaked at #13 and neither Confessions nor My Boo charted.
