Hey guys! I'm probably one of the few members here who doesn't have an mp3 player yet. I had always said that I wouldn't get one, as I didn't really see that it fit my needs. However, I've been exercise walking lately and I'm planning on joining a gym sometime in the next few weeks. Using a portable CD player has become rather bothersome, so I'm leaning toward getting an mp3 player, finally! For those of you who do have an mp3 player or who have done comparative shopping, do you have any advice on who might make the best one? I've heard good things, of course, about the Ipod, but also the Creative Labs brand as well. I'm basically going to be using it when I exercise. I'm not going to turn into one of those people who carries their mp3 player around with them everywhere they go & constantly has their headphones on. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I got an 30GB iPod (it has more memory than my laptop ) for my birthday last year and in the past 16 months it hasn't let me down once and after re-charge (which takes around 1-2 hours) it lasts for 12 hours plus. So that comes highly recommended if you have loads of albums and want to store a huge amount of songs, because 30GB is a huge amount of storage space. Oh and it can store videos, I have a few music videos which I ripped from YouTube. I worship it.

Thanks, Danny! I've been leaning toward getting an Ipod, but I didn't want to count out any other brands if others thought there were better ones out there. The one thing I want to get clarification on, though... Someone told me that Ipods only play .wma files, rather than .mp3s. That doesn't sound right to me, but I just want to be certain I have all the right information. Can Ipods play .mp3 files or do they only play .wma files?

^^^ iPods can definitely play MP3's, as well as songs downloaded from iTunes

Yay! I KNEW that information I had heard HAD to be wrong! So I'll be able to put songs on there I've already got on my computer that didn't come from iTunes...but one of their competitors....uh yeah....competitors. That's what we'll go with! Thanks, Bryan! ;D

Jason, I'd suggest getting an iPod nano. It's small enough to put in your pocket and there's accessories where you can strap it around your arm if you're doing exercise or what not. I honestly don't think anyone needs one with tons of memory, unless of course you'd like to carry your entire hard drive's worth of mp3s on-the-go. I got a 8GB iPod nano recently and I love it.

i personally have a 40GB Ipod, that i received as a gift, and it's a nice machine, of course once the battery is pretty much fried you can get a replacement one, i am not too sure if that is still possible with the Nano, of course this is hear-say, but i heard that there is no way of getting a replacement so you can do it yourself. My gf has a 2GB RCA Lyra that is running smooth so far, a friend of mine had the same machine and his just stopped working after a few months... so take that with a grain of salt. Another friend of mine has the 1GB San Disk which runs good for her. Everyone elses mp3 players are tiny, but i still fit my 40GB in my pocket

Thanks for all the advice, guys! I ended up getting an 8GB Nano last Wednesday. So far, I really like it a lot. I'm sure before long, I'll wonder how I ever lived without having one.

^Excellent investment, Jason!!! Is it the sexy black? 8GB is more than enough to fit your music. I can't even fill the entire thing yet!!! lololol

Yep! *sings* My Nano's sexyblack. Them other Nanos don't know how to act... LOL! I probably COULD fit all of my mp3s onto it if I wanted to. On Wednesday night, I was trying to put a lot of songs on it, because the next day, I was going out of town for a week. I wanted to be able to have a lot of songs available to listen to. Of course, if I tried to put all of my mp3s onto the Ipod, there would be several songs that I'd probably never listen to. I have a tendency to hold onto files for songs that I don't necessarily even like anymore.
