I'm trying to burn a music compilation disc for a friend, but some of the songs are louder than others and it's really jarring when it plays. When I ripped the songs from my CDs, I clicked the "Volume Levelling" function. Does that automatically ensure the volume is levelled? Do I have to do something else to make sure the songs are similar in volume? I've been using Musicmatch to rip and to burn. Does the volume on the player while ripping a CD have any effect on volume in the file? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I ripped the songs from my CDs, I clicked the "Volume Levelling" function. Does that automatically ensure the volume is levelled? It's supposed to... but, it doesn't always work that way. Do I have to do something else to make sure the songs are similar in volume? I've been using Musicmatch to rip and to burn. You might want to try a different program for ripping/burning. I use Windows Media Player 10 to burn/rip... occasionally, one of tracks will be really loud or really soft but, for the most part it does a pretty decent job getting the tracks around the same volume. Does the volume on the player while ripping a CD have any effect on volume in the file? I'm not sure if that matters in MusicMatch or not. Probably not... for most programs, the volume level of your player will not have an effect on how the songs are ripped. I'm trying to burn a music compilation disc for a friend, but some of the songs are louder than others and it's really jarring when it plays. This program works pretty well for normalizing mp3 volume: mp3gain.sourceforge.net/You might want to have it fix the volume levels of your mp3s before you burn.

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate it. I'm going to try Window Media Player as you suggested... That program you mentioned sounds very useful. This time, I'm working with WAV files, so I'll bookmark the link for future use. I guess I can also adjust the volume manually with some sort of mixer program...
