He used two warp whistles. But somehow he went from World 1 to World 8 with those two. I don't think it works like that. I remember that you need to get to World 2 before you were able to get to World 8 with two warp whistles so that seems a bit odd to me...

No. I do remember getting a whistle from World 1. But then, you'd need another whistle to move onto World 8.

Mike's right, from what I remember. There are 2 whistles in World 1 (one in level 3 and one in the mini-fortress), but you have to go to World 2 first before you can use both to make it to World 8.

Maybe it's just me, but my recollection is once you have both the whistles that Bryan indicated, you use the first one to get to the warp world, then once there, do not choose a world - instead, use the second, and the result is you're on the path that only leads to 8.

there's 3 whistles...
2 in world 1 (1-3 and the fortress) and another one in world 2 (hammer bros).

I thought once you got to the warp world (World 9), every whistle you used brought you down a level. So if you warp there from World 1, you're on the top level and can choose 2, 3 or 4. The second level is Worlds 5, 6 and 7 and the bottom level is World 8. Although what I used to do was finish World 1, warp from World 2 where I would then go to World 7 and then warp again. I don't think I ever really tried it the original way but if it is actually true... so many wasted minutes finishing World 1. We should make a Mario 3 secrets game and reveal all the secrets.

from what i understand from when it first came out, it was actually a fake as he took two bits of footage and stuck in together, thereby not actually doing it in 11 minutes....

using the 2 warp whistles does get you to world eight, using it inside the warp area brings you to eight while warping while into a world will warp you up only one level

It was made with an emulator, doing parts over and over until they were done perfect. Still it's impressive ;D
