This great 80's vocalist was a Rick James protege but she got this Top 5 hit of her own in 1985. Recently made a comeback too.

I am a huge fan of Teena Marie, and I recall "Lovergirl" very fondly. It was great to hear on the radio, and it was lots of fun that it was out around the same time as Billy Ocean's "Loverboy." This song has been Teena Marie's greatest pop crossover success. In fact, her only other U.S. top 40 single, according to Billboard, was her #37 hit from 1981/82 called "I Need Your Lovin'," which, by the way, is another underappreciated gem.

It's alright, but it kinda gets annoying after awhile.

Good song... 1985 had many of them, and this, while not the absolute best, was still good.

Great memory from the mid-80s. I'm such a fan of Teena Marie's...and this song was excellent! She had other good ones too, but only "Lovergirl" became a success on the Pop chart.
