The Members of Phish Swim Away
Published: 2004-05-26
Another group that has marked its twentieth year together has decided to call it quits. First it was Guided By Voices and now it is an act that goes by the name of Phish.
Recently the members of Phish sat down together and unanimously decided that it was time for the band to lay down their instruments and move on. According to a statement released on their site, Phish believe it would not be fair to themselves or their fans if they were to carry on, and push themselves to continue on with the band when it just wasn't meant to be. Basically Phish chose to burn out instead of fade away.
To make sure there were no misinterpretations among their fans, guitarist/vocalist Trey Anastasio laid it out:
"For the sake of clarity, I should say that this is not like the hiatus, which was our last attempt to revitalize ourselves. We're done."
This means that the Phish's last album will be 'Undermind', which has yet to see release on June 12th. The band's debut release, titled 'Junta', saw the first rays of daylight over sixteen years ago in 1988. It's not their albums, however, that Phish is known for. It is their amazing live shows and dedication to their fans that keeps the band on top. Phish's last live performance will take place in their home state of Vermont. That is where the true tragedy lies.
If you need any further proof of Phish's contributions to the music world then look no further than your television. They've been on the Simpsons, and well, if a band's been on the Simpsons, then you know they're the real deal (kindly ignore the episode with NSYNC).
