Yellowcard Believe in Giving
Band to deliver single to firehouses
California rockers Yellowcard plan to deliver special promotional copies of their single "Believe" to fire departments in New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. The song was inspired by the country's response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
"It's not really a mourning song," says lead singer, Ryan Key. "It's more of a positive, look-to-the-future song. Kind of a thank-you letter."
The single, to be delivered before the Ventura band heads out on the Vans Warped Tour in late June, is an acknowledgment of the losses suffered by many of the group's East Coast fans. "Every time we play it in the New York-New Jersey area, kids really love it," says Key. "I know there are kids that come to our shows who lost family, the whole deal. We just want to let [the fire departments] know there are young people out there who care about the situation, let 'em know we appreciate what they did for America."
"Believe," originally released on Yellowcard's breakthrough 2003 album Ocean Avenue, was inspired by Bruce Springsteen's The Rising. "My dad gave me a copy," said Key, 24, "and I pushed it aside for, like, a year. Then one night I listened to the whole record and ended up writing the song that same night. I just wanted to dig up the memory of that day."
Yellowcard's activism isn't just reserved for cheerleading: Along with No Doubt, the Foo Fighters and the Used, the band has a track on the forthcoming second volume of Fat Wreck Chords' Rock Against Bush compilation, due in August.

i may not really like the whole thing where people try to play off the 9/11 thing... but these guys don't seem to want to try and make cash off it at least (to the very least, don't appear that way)
