What are some #2s you guys can remember that were blocked from hitting #1?
NOTE: When you list them, please identify the chart that it happened on. And please no personal chart examples - that's why the topic's in THIS forum. You don't have to list who the #1(s) was/were, but it couldn't hurt.
My examples come from the CHR/Pop chart.
First is a refresher course in recent #2s. We all know there were none last year, and this year's #2s have been Suga Suga (behind Hey Ya), Someday (The Way You Move), and My Immortal (Toxic).
Now for a few older examples:
Toni Braxton and TLC are two artists whose biggest hits have only been #2s that couldn't hit the top. In the case of TLC, it's worse - all three of theirs were behind two number ones where the second jumped them to get to #1.
Toni's:
Another Sad Love Song (for 2 weeks behind Mariah Carey's "Dreamlover", but the nail in the coffin was Janet Jackson's "Again" hitting #1 the week after Toni's second at #2)
Breathe Again (for 2 weeks - first behind Mariah Carey's "Hero" and then Bryan Adams/Rod Stewart/Sting "All For Love")
Un-break My Heart (for 3 weeks behind "Don't Speak")
TLC's:
Baby Baby Baby (for 4 weeks - 3 behind "This Used to Be My Playground" and 1 behind "End of the Road")
Waterfalls (for 5 weeks - 2 behind "I'll Be There For You" and 3 behind "Kiss From a Rose")
No Scrubs (for 5 weeks - 1 behind "Kiss Me" and 4 behind "Livin' La Vida Loca")
And of course, who can forget the most notorious #2, Hanging By a Moment (behind "Lady Marmalade")?
I could go on, but I'd rather not end up covering all of them right here and now.
(Please correct me if my weeks breakdown for TLC & Toni is not quite accurate - I'm assuming that their weeks at #2 were all consecutive (except for No Scrubs).)
