In regards to the slowest climb to the top 10... I think I found one that might hold the record.
James Blunt debuted in the top 100 with "You're Beautiful" on August 21, 2005, and didn't make the top 10 until 31 weeks later on March 19, 2006.

That wouldn't surprise me in the least - I'd entirely forgotten how James Blunt's single had a 6-month gap between its UK release and its US release. Thanks for clarifying.
