Commentary:
The Arctic Monkeys spend a second week at number 1 with their fourth single to chart "Leave Before The Lights Come On", a new track not avaliable on their current million selling album "Whatever People Say...". This one-off release comes as the band bring touring of their debut to a close at the Reading and Leeds Festivals this weekend, and prepare to finish off their highly anticipated 2nd album.
Taking the runner-up spot is Swedish pop trio Peter, Bjorn and John with "Young Folks" as they inch from 3-2, but taking a leap of 8 places just behind at number 3 are Muse with "Starlight".. arguably the highlight of their recent 4th studio album "Black Holes and Revelations" which saw it's first release "Supermassive.." make #2 on my chart and has had good longevity, this week falling just 6 places 23-29 in it's 15th chart week.
Thom Yorke (former lead singer of Radiohead) kicks off his solo career in style as the haunting and controversial "Harrowdown Hill" climbs five to number 5, ahead of Keane and their 2nd release from "Under The Iron Sea", "Crystal Ball" which vaults 13-6 this week and aims to give the band a 3rd Top 5 hit on my chart.
There are notable double figure climbs this week for French pop group Phoenix, who are this weeks highest climber, climbing 23 places to number 21. Also gaining quickly are the Scissors Sisters (yet to make the Top 10 on my chart, with "Laura" being their biggest hit so far, #14 in 2004) move up a similarly large amount of 22 places from 48-26. Both pose significant competition for the Top 20 next week along with Jamelia, Camera Obscura and The Killers.
This week there are 6 new entries, these are for Manchester band Keith; outspoken "lady" of the moment Lily Allen; the awkwardly named Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly (would love to see JK and Joke announce that!); the lovely Regina Spektor; Hope Of The States and hotly tipped electronic group New Young Pony Club.
