Blossoms Lead Again; Everclear Gains Fast
The Gin Blossoms continue to keep a hold on #1 on Jessica's Top 40 with "Learning The Hard Way", on top for a fourth straight week. But the bigger news comes from a strong gainer that could potentially knock the Blossoms out next week.
After a #25 debut last week, Everclear's "Hater" leaps up 23 positions to be the week's greatest gainer, up to #2. It's only the second song to leap to #2 from outside the top 10; the other was Guns N' Roses' "IRS", which got to #1 the week after its 13-2 jump. If that's any indication, "Hater" could be #1 by next week.
After losing her bullet, Christina Aguilera makes a surprising rebound up 5-3 with "Ain't No Other Man", becoming her third top 3 hit since my chart went online in July 2003. The only others to place higher were "The Voice Within" (#2) and a VMA performance with Madonna and Britney (#1).
KT Tunstall's "Suddenly I See" and Pearl Jam's "Life Wasted" round out the top 5, each dropping two spots from 2-4 and 3-5, respectively.
New to the top 10 is Jeannie Ortega's "Crowded", which jumps 17-7. Further down, the pick of the week is Darren Hayes' "Unlovable", up 31-24.
There's a huge cleanup in the top 40 with seven debuts, led by Justin Timberlake with "SexyBack" at #22. The Timbaland-produced first single from his second solo album "FutureSex/LoveSounds" is his first to chart since my chart went online; "Cry Me A River" was a top 10 hit in the pre-internet era, while "Senorita" and "I'm Loving It" both DNCed in the top 25 era.
Madonna's "Jump", which last week was confirmed to be the fourth single from "Confessions On A Dancefloor", debuts at #29, giving Madonna her 11th JT40 hit, to tie her with Delta Goodrem for the most top 40 entries.
Other new entries on the chart include Jesse McCartney's "Right Where You Want Me" (#30), AFI's "Miss Murder" (#31), Under The Influence Of Giants' "Mama's Room" (#36), Jewel's "Good Day" (#37) and the Fray's "How To Save A Life" (#38).
And now, before I wrap it up... as some of you may know, I've been working on Flashback charts recently. This week I finished them all and they're all on my site. You can check them out here: www.freewebs.com/jessicastop40/special.htm . ;D
