Gin Blossoms Go For Third; KT Knocks Pearl Jam From Top 2
The Gin Blossoms spend a third straight week at #1 with "Learning The Hard Way", which now ties the Sugababes' "Ugly" for third most weeks at #1 this year. If the band can double their current run, they can surpass the second most total of five matched by the Armchair Cynics' "Coalmine" and Pearl Jam's "Life Wasted".
Speaking of "Wasted", it drops 2-3 to end their streak of 15 consecutive weeks within the top 2, as KT Tunstall trades places with "Suddenly I See" up 3-2. "Suddenly" is now KT's highest charting hit, after "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" hit #3 back in late April.
Madonna and Christina remain at #4 and #5, respectively, with "Get Together" and "Ain't No Other Man". Ashlee Simpson moves up 8-6 with "Invisible", while Hinder has the week's only top 10 entry with "Lips of an Angel".
The pick of the week is Jeannie Ortega's "Crowded" featuring Papoose, up 22-17. The Brooklyn hip-hop singer's debut single is one of my chart's biggest surprise hits this year.
The week's greatest gainer is JoJo's "Too Little Too Late", up 12 positions from #35 to #23 in its second week.
Everclear has the week's highest debut at #25 with "Hater". Taken from the new album "Welcome To The Drama Club", it's the band's first release since 2003 - and the first I actually like from them since the "So Much For The Afterglow" era.
Other debuts this week include Darren Hayes' "Unlovable" at #31, which has gotten some recent attention thanks to an acoustic release, and Fergie's "London Bridge" at #33, her first single away from the Black Eyed Peas.
Have a great weekend!
