Chart Notes:
The new Janet Jackson single is number one. Is anyone surprised? In awe? Shocked? Probably not. So, let's move onto the biggest story. This week, it's all about Justin Timberlake's massive return to the Hot 21 Pop, as his funky dance-pop track, Sexyback, debuts at #3. Back's third spot entry marks the year's highest debut by any artist this year, besting Janet Jackson's #7 bow with Call On Me, just three weeks ago. While Timberlake is certainly no stranger to the Hot 21 Pop, the immediate success of Sexyback could take him somewhere he's never been, as a leading artist - number one. The pop superstar, who's freshman album, Justified, has sold over seven million copies worldwide, has only made trips to the top of the pop as a "featured" artist (Signs, Snoop Dogg - 2 weeks; Where Is The Love, Black Eyed Peas - 2 weeks). His most successful single, I'm Lovin' It, missed the coveted position by a fingersnap, settling for a #2 peak, despite its Platinum certification and noteworthy longevity. The battle will be tense, and the competition will be stiff, but with a start so good, the odds are definitely with him. Stay tuned!
