Blossoms Hold #1; Big Names Die Down
After replacing Pearl Jam from #1 last week, the Gin Blossoms hold the top of Jessica's Top 40 for a second week with "Learning The Hard Way". Meanwhile, the Blossoms have a better chance of a long stay as Pearl Jam's former 5-weeker "Life Wasted" remains at #2 unbulleted.
The biggest contender fighting for #1 at the moment is KT Tunstall's "Suddenly I See", which holds at #3 for a third week. Past single "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" was kept from going higher by Pearl Jam and Jewel's domination following their CD releases, but only spent one week at #3.
Madonna's also fighting to get her first #1 since I stopped obsessing over her, with "Get Together", up 6-4. Madonna has not been to #1 since "Love Profusion" got to #1 in two chart runs (once in December 2003 and again in March 2004).
New to the top 10 are Ashlee Simpson's "Invisible" (14-8) the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Tell Me Baby" (12-9).
The greatest gainer is Tom Petty's "Saving Grace", up 36-20 in its second week. The pick of the week is Jenny Lewis's "Rise Up With Fists!!", which moves 33-23 after spending a second week at #33 last week.
JoJo has the week's highest debut at #35 with "Too Little, Too Late". Her biggest success was a #1 with "Leave (Get Out)" two years ago this week.
The only other debut comes from British indie band the Automatic's debut single "Monster" at #37, which has gained a following on some personal charts. I've been making fun of this fan-made video that Danny showed me lately and here's the link to it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrLumdqIrDM
Have a great weekend!
