CHART NOTES
Sarah Jarosz holds on to the #1 spot for the second week with "Runaway Train." The track is from her album Polaroid Lovers. Give the album a spin. It's good.
The Rolling Stones have departed... well "Angry" did. After 31 straight weeks of which 9 were spent at #1, 80 year old Mick Jagger and his band have left this chart leaving a historic record behind: Sept. 7, 2023 - "Angry debuts at #1. It spends 9 weeks at #1 before slowly fading away for the next 22 weeks, stopping at various spots in the top 10 before departing this week. Last week's chart at #15 was "Angry's" last appearance.
"Angry" was the lead single from their latest album, Hackney Diamonds which I consider to be the best of 2023. There is still one other Rolling Stones song on the chart... "Whole Wide World" stops at #12 this week after peaking on the Top 20 at #3 a few weeks ago.
Two songs debut on the Top 20 this week. First up is IMY2, a band who is best known for posting cover song videos every week on their YouTube channel. They have covered many neighbor hits by artists from The Beatles to Beyoncé and many others. Very few of their cover songs get issued outside of YouTube. This one, a cover of the classic Chris Isaak hit is streaming on both YouTube and Spotify. Here is IMY 2's cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game." It's a good cover and good enough to be listed at #19 on this week's Top 20.
Unfortunately there is no video that go with this song.
At #20 are The Shang Hi Los with their latest retro rock homage to fun, telephone operators and record stores... at least in their video. The new single "Op-Operator" is an underrated future classic that should get a lot more views and airplay by you all. The band hails from Boston and have put out a number of singles, an album and more. The video for "Op-Operator" shows at the top of this post.
