CHECK 'EM OUT SONGS DOMINATE CHART: PILE OF LOVE REMAIN #1; NEWDAD, REAL ESTATE, LEMON TWIGS MAKE MOVES
For yet another week, the influence of M4B Charts Central's new Check 'Em Out forum is the big story of the Burner 50; the top 3 songs were all posted to it, two of the three new top 10 entries were as well, two of its biggest breakout songs are edging closer to the upper end of the survey, and several songs from the forum make up this week's debuts.
Pile Of Love, a week after an unexpected 12-1 jump, hold the #1 spot for a second week with "Happy To Hide", one of five songs to date I posted to the forum. Its lead comes almost entirely from strong play with me, as it so far hasn't crossed over to any other charts (though it's currently on Jessica's bubbling under and was added to QCIndie). Bruce Dickinson's solo song "Afterglow Of Ragnarok", posted by Jessica in the forum, gets a third week at #2, while NewDad jump 13-3 with another of the five songs I posted, "Nightmares".
Elsewhere in the top 10, the Foo Fighters' former #1 "The Glass" holds at #4 fresh off becoming a top 5 Globalchart hit, Death Lens' pensive, dramatic "Limousine" inches up 6-5, Mannequin Pussy land their fourth top 10 with "Sometimes" up 11-8, and Wisp's "Your Face" follows with a 12-9 move.
Two breakout songs from Check 'Em Out are on their way to the top 10. Real Estate's "Water Underground" jumps 17-11; the indie band has been releasing music since 2009 but haven't taken off on M4B until this song, which evokes the 90s indie that soundtracked the classic Nickelodeon show The Adventures Of Pete & Pete and whose music video features that show's stars Michael Maronna and Danny Tamberelli. And the Lemon Twigs' "My Golden Years" continues its fast climb with an 18-15 jump in its third week; it's the Long Island duo's second top 15 hit and could likely outperform 2020's "The One" as their best peak to date.
Six songs debut this week, most of which come from Check 'Em Out songs. Present's "Easy" leads the batch at #23, a discovery on Spotify's Adrenaline playlist that I posted to Check 'Em Out and had previously been a hit for Lyhom. Suki Waterhouse, the actress-singer famous for Daisy Jones & The Six and dating Robert Pattinson, lands her first entry at #31 with the title track from her upcoming album "OMG"; it's a likely breakout as the song received high praise among M4B members in replies to its thread. After three of their songs appeared in the Next in Line list without charting, indie band Sir Chloe finally cracks the top 50 with "Seventeen" at #34.
And Militarie Gun's "Do It Faster", one of 2023's most acclaimed rock songs, re-enters the chart at #32 after the song was promoted to alternative radio. While Militarie Gun had a big year on the Burner 50 with their Life Under The Gun era, "Do It Faster" only reached #23 in its first run, brickwalling when the second single "Very High" (which hit #10) was released.
