TEENAGE WRIST, HEAVENWARD SWITCH SPOTS; "DIGITAL SELF" EXTENDS CHART RECORDS
Continuing to ride high from the impact of seeing them in concert a second time, Teenage Wrist reach #1 on the Burner 50 with "Digital Self", becoming the band's record-extending 15th career and 12th consecutive #1, far and away leading the chart on both counts. "Digital Self" ends the run of Heavenward's "Tangerine", which spent the last six weeks at #1; this marks the first time Kamtin Mohager's current band was replaced at #1 by his former band.
"Digital Self" gets to #1 in its 11th week in the top 50, tying "Wear U Down" as their song to take the longest amount of weeks to get to #1. (Both songs had similar chart runs, charting from the immediate impact of their parent album's release, stalling out, then steadily gaining momentum from belated crossover attention on M4B.) It's the second longest wait to get to #1, just one week shy of the current record held by Milk Teeth's "Prism", which took three solid months to top the chart. This year a handful of late breaking hits have attempted to break the record, but "Wayfinding" by Chappaqua Wrestling, "Pressure Cooker" by Dazy and Militarie Gun, and "NBTSA" by Joyce Manor all came up short...
...however, the record now faces another challenge, this time from Heavenward. "Wish" vaults 16-7 in its 15th week in the top 50 and third since re-entering, positioning itself as a frontrunner for the next #1. "Wish" peaked at #3 in its initial three-month run on the chart last year, kept from the top by Loathe and Teenage Wrist's "Is It Really You?" and Hatchie's "Quicksand"; with strong play, the strong track record for the Pyrophonics era, post-concert hype, and crossover attention that got the song on the Globalchart (it's expected to debut on the M4B 40 next week), "Wish" could do far better on the second run.
Elsewhere on the chart: Pinkshift's huge M4B Radio hit "Home" continues holding firm despite the Wrist/Heavenward domination with a third week at #3, Citizen's "When I Let You Down" inches up to a new peak of #4, and Mannequin Pussy ties their personal best rank with "I Got Heaven" up 6-5, matching the high mark of 2019's "Who You Are". The week's top debut comes from the unexpected collaboration of grindcore band Full Of Hell and shoegaze band Nothing, "Spend The Grace", at #38.
