TEENAGE WRIST, HEAVENWARD DOMINATE FROM FULL IMPACT OF SAN DIEGO SHOW
It's a big week for both Teenage Wrist and former frontman Kamtin Mohager's spinoff project Heavenward, as the impact of seeing both bands in San Diego (one of just two nights on the Wrist's tour where Heavenward was one of the openers) has both bands' current hits holding on strongly in the top 2 while a different Heavenward song gets an impressive second wind.
Heavenward's "Tangerine" gets a sixth consecutive week at #1 on the Burner 50, setting a new mark for the longest reigning song of 2023 to best four other five-weekers (including a Teenage Wrist song) and earning the chart's longest consecutive reign since Joyce Manor's "Gotta Let It Go" earned seven weeks at #1 last spring. Close behind at #2 is Teenage Wrist's "Digital Self", which saw a surge in interest in recent days with the concert and is likely to be #1 next week, extending the band's streak of the most cumulative and consecutive #1s by far. While other Wrist and Heavenward songs rebound as a result of the concert, the biggest move comes from Heavenward's "Wish", up 21 spots from 37-16 one week after re-entering the chart. "Wish" previously charted in winter 2022 when it was released from an EP before their album and made it to #3, but got a second life after Lyhom debuted it late last month.
Elsewhere on the chart, the recent release of their latest album Calling The Dogs pushes Citizen's "When I Let You Down" up 12-5, a significant recovery after previous single "Hyper Trophy" became their first song to miss the top 10. They also have the week's top debut at #34 with "Can't Take It Slow".
Overlooked chart fact worth mentioning belatedly: Portugal. The Man's "Summer Of Luv", which holds at #10 a week after cracking the top 10 for the first time, not only marked the first top 10 for PTM and collaborators Unknown Mortal Orchestra in five years, but also the highest charting single involving musician Nick Reinhart of Tera Melos and Disheveled Cuss, who co-wrote and plays guitar on the song. Tera Melos topped out at #32 in 2017 with the title track from their final album "Trash Generator", and Disheveled Cuss hit #20 in early 2020 with "Wanna Be My Friend".
