WRIST, FOOS CONCERTS IMPACT CHART
Two concerts impact this week's chart: seeing the Foo Fighters a second time in Phoenix on Tuesday, and anticipation for seeing Teenage Wrist a second time in San Diego on Saturday, building an overnight trip to the city around seeing their show with Heavenward opening (Heavenward are only opening two of their California dates; frontman Kamtin Mohager has expressed reluctance to tour). The upcoming Wrist concert bolsters the top 2 songs, as Heavenward's "Tangerine" now enters a five-way tie for the longest reigning song of 2023 with a fifth week at #1 on the Burner 50, and Teenage Wrist are edging closer to extending their records for the chart's most cumulative and consecutive #1s as "Digital Self" moves 5-2.
Additionally, Heavenward's #3-peaking "Wish", which first charted last year when it was released off the band's debut EP Staircase Music, re-enters at #37.
As for the Foo Fighters, all three singles from But Here We Are rebound. "Show Me How", a recent Globalchart top 10, returns to the top 10 with an 11-9 move just a week after slipping out. "Under You", the current radio single and a former M4B Radio Top 40 #1, vaults 23-13. Lead single "Rescued", a rock radio chart-topper that also was their first Globalchart #1 in 23 years, rises 50-45 after nearing the end of its chart run in the last couple weeks.
Another opener on the Wrist tour gets a boost from the concert anticipation, as post-punk revival newcomers Spiritual Cramp jump 26-18 with their first Burner 50 hit "Talkin' On The Internet".
Elsewhere in the top 10: despite a surprisingly sluggish start due to competition, Pinkshift's "Home" reaches the top 5 with a 6-3 gain, helped by strong play and better than expected personal chart support. Portugal. The Man gets their fifth top 10 hit and first in five years with "Summer Of Luv"; the Unknown Mortal Orchestra collab jumps 13-10. (It's UMO's second top 10, also their first in five years.)
Brooklyn grungegaze band Superbloom have the week's top debut at #39 with their one-off single "Velvet Hippo". The band is looking for a moment of redemption after their recently released album Life's A Blur failed to land a significant Burner 50 hit; its lead single "Falling Up" topped out at #24 and the followup "Daisy" just barely missed the top 30 with a #31 peak.
