HEAVENWARD'S "TANGERINE" BECOMES THIRD #1 FOR WRIST-ASSOCIATED BAND
In an extremely close five-way race for #1, Heavenward has edged out the competition to earn their third Burner 50 #1 with "Tangerine", which moves 4-1 in its seventh week. The fifth song to chart from their debut album Pyrophonics and third to become an M4B hit built up solid play and increased interest in recent weeks amid anticipation to see the Teenage Wrist-associated band in concert opening for the Wrist in San Diego.
"Tangerine" follows "Supernova", first released on an EP last year, and the album's proper lead single "Gasoline", which despite only spending one week at #1 because of strong competition from the Foo Fighters and Teenage Wrist, has shaped up to be one of the chart's biggest hits of 2023 due to top 10 longevity. With three songs from Pyrophonics reaching #1, the album now has as many #1s as the Teenage Wrist album that essentially is its immediate predecessor, 2018's Chrome Neon Jesus, the band's only album to feature Heavenward frontman Kamtin Mohager as lead singer.
Heavenward's rise to #1 pushes the Foo Fighters' "Show Me How" down to #2 after a single week at #1, while Teenage Wrist's "Dark Sky" also backs down a spot to #3. Emerging as serious contenders for the top are the Armed's "Everything's Glitter", up 7-4 to mark a new career high for the hardcore collective, and Fiddlehead's "Sleepyhead", inching up 6-5 to become their third top 5 hit following their two #1s.
No new songs enter the top 10, but it's likely there will be at least one big one next week as Guns N' Roses' "Perhaps" continues its fast rise in its third week with a 22-11 jump. The hard rock band's third single since Slash and Duff McKagan returned in 2016 made instant impact on M4B, already in the Globalchart top 5 and #2 on the M4B Radio Top 40. With its move this week, "Perhaps" is now GNR's highest charting Burner 50 entry, surpassing the Appetite For Destruction outtake "Shadow Of Your Love" which hit #15 following its 2018 release.
Mannequin Pussy has the week's top debut with "I Got Heaven" at #33; the comeback single for the Philadelphia indie punk band marks their highest debuting song to date.
