TEENAGE WRIST STAY AT #1 FOR THIRD WEEK; CITIZEN, FOO FIGHTERS COMPETE TO EXTEND HIT STREAKS
Now #1 for eight of the last nine weeks, Teenage Wrist extend their run with "Dark Sky" to a third week at #1 on the Burner 50. But their domination following the release of their Still Love album faces two big competitors in the coming weeks.
Citizen's "If You're Lonely" moves 3-2, looking to become their eighth #1 and keep up the streak of their albums' lead singles topping the chart, as "Cement", "Jet" and "I Want To Kill You" did previously. The song got a softer start because of an initial lukewarm reaction, but strong play from the song immensely growing on me coupled with M4B genre support from Kim and Jess has put the song in solid contention. If "If You're Lonely" fails to reach #1, it will be the band's third consecutive #2 peaker; the one-off single "Bash Out" and the Life In Your Glass World deluxe edition track "A Passing Thing" topped out in the runner-up spot last year.
The Foo Fighters' "Show Me How" cracks the top 5 in its seventh week with a 6-4 move, aiming to follow "Rescued" and "Under You" to the top. "Show Me How" was released as the third promotional single from But Here We Are and took off strongly among personal charts in recent weeks despite "Under You" being promoted as the second radio single; it recently hit #9 on the Globalchart, marking the first time the band earned two Globalchart top 10s from the same album.
All three bands are among my personal favorites, I've seen them previously in concert, and in October I plan to see them again - the Foo Fighters and Teenage Wrist within days of each other in the first week of the month, and Citizen mid-month returning to the venue where I last saw them, The Van Buren in Phoenix. (I plan to see Teenage Wrist in San Diego as part of an upcoming weekend trip there; Heavenward will open that show.)
Angel Du$t sets a new record this week with "Space Jam" up 14-8; the song becomes the band's first top 10 hit in seven years, when "Stranger Things" peaked at #2 in July 2016. Fiddlehead also hits the top 10 with "Sleepyhead", which climbs 16-9 to become their fourth top 10.
Only two songs debut this week: JessieLou's "Run Away To New York City" at #49, issued as the fourth single from her self-titled third album, and Taking Meds' "Life Support" at #50, their second chart entry following the #4-peaking breakout hit "Memory Lane".
