TEENAGE WRIST EARNS 12TH #1 WITH "SUNSHINE" AMID CHART SHAKEUP
One week after entering straight in the top 10, Teenage Wrist climbs to #1 in their second week with "Sunshine", the expected lead single from their upcoming third studio album. "Sunshine" debuted at #7 last week, the band's fourth song to debut in the top 10 and third to hit #1 in the second week. It extends the band's record of the most #1 songs on the chart by far, with 12. Citizen and Milk Teeth are tied for second place with seven each. Last week's #1, Linkin Park's five-week champion "Lost", drops to #3, while Webbed Wing's "Sure Could Use A Friend" holds at #2, now marking the second time Teenage Wrist denied them the top ("Jesus's Age" took the runner-up spot to the band's reworking of Loathe's "Is It Really You?")
"Sunshine" is one of several major new releases over the last two weeks that has strongly shaken up the chart, causing a number of songs to abruptly plunge after building up to better than expected chart placements. Another one of those new releases, Balance and Composure's "Savior Mode", is the week's only new top 10 entry but a big one, up 23-5 in its second week. "Savior Mode", the band's first new song since their 2017 breakup, becomes their second top 10 following 2016's "Afterparty".
Besides Balance and Composure, the biggest moves among recently released songs come from Fall Out Boy's "Hold Me Like A Grudge" (31-12), a rise that makes it likely to become a strong followup to the #4-peaking "Love From The Other Side", and Pinkshift's "To Me" (32-21), which is fighting to extend the band's impressive streak of five #1s from their Love Me Forever era. Also one to watch is the singer-songwriter supergroup Boygenius' "Not Strong Enough", up 16-14; it's now the highest charting entry for Phoebe Bridgers, besting 2020's "Garden Song" (#16), and second highest entry for Julien Baker, surpassing "Appointments" (also #16) but not yet as high as the #6 mark of 2017's "Turn Out The Lights". The third member of the group, Lucy Dacus, has so far never charted solo.
The Foo Fighters have the week's top debut at #25 with "Rescued", the lead single from their 11th studio album But Here We Are, their first since the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins.
