"LOST" REACHES FIVE WEEKS TO SCORE RARE MILESTONE; TEENAGE WRIST LEADS SEVERAL HIGH PROFILE DEBUTS
Linkin Park extends their reign at #1 on the Burner 50 to a fifth consecutive week with "Lost", an accomplishment that brings about a chart rarity - only the second time in chart history where two back-to-back #1s reign for at least five consecutive weeks each. "Lost" matches White Reaper's five-week run for "Fog Machine", with this back-to-back domination matched only by The Dear Hunter's "Blame Paradise" (7 weeks) and Teenage Wrist's "Dweeb" (10 weeks) in 2017-18.
It's unknown whether "Lost" will land a sixth week as Webbed Wing continues to closely challenge with "Sure Could Use A Friend" at #2 and Mike Shinoda continues his fast climb with "In My Head" up 7-3. However, the most likely frontrunner is the arrival of a new song from Burner 50 megastars Teenage Wrist; "Sunshine" enters all the way at #7, marking the band's fourth song to debut in the top 10. (The others: "Mary", #4 in 2019; "Silverspoon", #7 in 2020; "Earth Is A Black Hole", #2 in 2020.) "Sunshine" was first performed during the Wrist's 2022 tour - I was present for the song's live debut at the tour opener in Phoenix - but the studio version was released this Wednesday; it's expected to be the lead single from their upcoming third studio album, the followup to 2021's Earth Is A Black Hole, a record-breaking era that produced six #1 songs and helped Teenage Wrist break the record for most #1s of any artist in chart history, a total that currently stands at 11.
Elsewhere in the top 10, Drug Church jumps 16-8 with "Myopic" to become the post-hardcore band's third top 10 following "Tawny" and the #1 "Million Miles Of Fun", and Pierce The Veil gets their second with "Death Of An Executioner" up 14-9.
Besides the Wrist, there's another huge new entry from the reunion single for 2010s emo revival band Balance and Composure, "Savior Mode", arriving at #23. Taken from a two-song reunion EP, "Savior Mode" marks the band's first chart entry since their most recent studio album Light We Made in 2016, which spawned three top 20 entries including the #3-peaking "Afterparty".
Pinkshift also debuts with "To Me" at #32, released Thursday as a one-off single potentially teasing to a new era of music despite half a year passing since the release of debut album Love Me Forever. All five songs to chart from that album reached #1, with "Nothing (In My Head)" spending six weeks at #1 and ranking as my chart's #1 song of 2022, and "Burn The Witch" earning seven weeks at #1 almost immediately after my strongly positive response to seeing them in concert in November.
