This was an interesting read. The only thing I want to address is the affect of no more Tik Tok's on the Billboard Charts. I am all for it. Yes, I am all for new talent being discovered and all that but let's make sure the talent is good. Radio seems to jump on these Tik Tok sensations because their audience eats this up, because frankly, I don't think they know any better. IMO, for what it's worth, alot of these TikTok songs have been lifeless drabs. Perhaps it would give record companies who have talented acts, a lot of them ignored, as we can see on the Globalchart, to get some attention at radio and in the ears of streamers. The only "way' that may suck is that album bombs would stay on the chart longer because not much new was grabbing the ears of radio or people on streaming services. Well that is where radio can step like they did maybe 20 years ago and promote and play the good stuff. But then again the Billboard Hot 100 is already broken. What do you think? how do you feel about Tik Tok "hits"? www.billboard.com/pro/tiktok-ban-affect-music-billboard-charts/

Interesting read. But this article makes it sound like TikTok is the pillar of the music industry!
If you tell me there will be less streaming data on Billboard, I’m all for it!
Other medias will take over, probly. But no matter what, in the end, a hit song is a hit song. It will find its audience if it’s meant to.
The Weeknd started small and anonymously on youtube in 2009. 5 years later he was already a pop icon charting songs in the top 10, 2 years before TikTok was even launched…

I don't think there'll be any changes, because if TikTok is banned, something else will fill the void and be responsible for viral hits.

If there are any changes, they will be temporary. As Bryan says, the next thing will come along and replace it. The industry can't afford to lose the numbers and will be actively looking for ways to replace them. And as Vic says, the Hot 100 is already broken, probably still heavily manipulated to suit the industry.

Nice to get responses. Guess I was looking for any kind of hope that the charts would get better. LOL.

I don't think there's hope. The charts are damaged beyond repair at this point, I'd say. At least we have personal charts and the Globalchart here

I doubt there will be any long-lasting impact on the charts. I could see YouTube Shorts and Facebook Reels getting more traffic if some ban on TikTok is attempted.
Coming at this from more of a tech perspective, I don't think any ban will be effective in the long run. Unless the government flat-out makes TikTok a crime to use, most people will just get a VPN service or find another work around and keep using TikTok.
It's also ridiculous to ban TikTok and not also clamp down on Facebook, Google, Snapchat, Instagram and the many other apps that have similar privacy issues. For most of these social media apps, YOU are the product. That's why they're free to use. They sell your location data and certain personal data to anyone who will pay for it. Data aggregation is a huge business, and that really should be addressed first before any bans take place.
