WHITE REAPER, CHAPPAQUA WRESTLING MAINTAIN TOP 2
One week after earning their first Burner 50 #1, and just ahead of seeing them in concert this weekend, White Reaper manages a second week at #1 with "Fog Machine". The song appears prepared for a long stay at the top, at least through next week as the full impact of the concert is felt. The concert also may have an effect on the band's other charting entries, which make some moderate movement this week, as "Pages" rebounds 31-28 and "Bozo" moves up 41-36 in its second week. Opener Narrow Head could also get a boost from the show; this week they get a 16-12 lift with "Caroline".
Chappaqua Wrestling manages a solid hold in the top 2 as "Wayfinding" spends a second week at #2 14 weeks after the song's debut, its holding steady amid continued strong play helping it remain in contention for #1. It's only the second song in chart history to reach a #2 peak past the 10-week mark, following Portugal. The Man's "Live In The Moment", which first hit the runner-up spot in its 15th week. And Dazy and Militarie Gun's "Pressure Cooker" sets another new high in its second chart run with a 5-3 move in its 17th nonconsecutive week in the top 50, also setting a new high for Dazy beating the #4 peak of "On My Way". If "Wayfinding" or "Pressure Cooker" makes it to #1, it will set a new record for longest wait before reaching #1, surpassing Milk Teeth's "Prism", which hit #1 in its 12th week.
Another song aiming to follow in the footsteps of "Wayfinding" as a rare slow burner makes a big jump this week - Pierce The Veil's "Emergency Contact", up 12-7 in its 10th week in the chart, the same amount of time it took "Wayfinding" to get to the top 10. Pierce The Veil, a band from San Diego who developed a cult following in the pop punk/emo scene in the late 2000s/early 2010s thanks to songs like the TikTok famous "King For A Day", released "Emergency Contact" in November off their fifth album The Jaws Of Life but it didn't get my attention until near the end of December, by which point the song unexpectedly became a #1 hit on Freaky Fly Bry's Top 100. The song has since made the leap from word of mouth M4B success to radio play as it's made it to the top 30 of the alternative radio charts.
Also making a big move into the top 10 is the British all-female punk/metal band Witch Fever's "At The Core", up 13-6. The band first came on my radar through Kerrang's top 50 albums of 2022 list, where its parent album Congregation ranked #14, and has since taken off strongly with consistent play in recent weeks.
Only two songs debut this week, M83's "Amnesia" at #45 (first entry since 2016) and Truth Cult's "Clearskin" at #49 (first entry since 2020).
