Compiler's note: Two weeks after downsizing my chart, I have restored my chart back to the Burner 50. I felt like I was getting more behind on trending songs because of the downsizing.
WHITE REAPER CLINCHES FIRST #1 FOLLOWING M4B IMPACT, CONCERT PLANS
Kentucky rock band White Reaper earns their first Burner 50 #1 with "Fog Machine", the second single and second charting entry from their fifth studio album Asking For A Ride, ending the three-week reign of Fireworks' "I Want To Start A Religion With You" which slips to #3. "Fog Machine" impacted strongly following its December release, but gained stronger momentum in recent days after crossing over to Jessica's Top 40 (where it became the band's first entry) and Pipa's Top 30 (third there), and after getting a ticket to see the band in concert in Phoenix almost exactly a week from now.
White Reaper started as a lo-fi garage rock band before an evolution to AOR/classic rock revivalists starting with 2017's The World's Best American Band, which broke the band on the chart for the first time and landed them a #12 hit with "Little Silver Cross". The band's previous best peak was with the lead single from their next album, "Might Be Right", which despite not getting past #3 on the Burner 50 - blocked by two titanic hits, "Mary" by Teenage Wrist and "Big Mouth" by Citizen - held on strongly through the second half of 2019 when the song unexpectedly became a significant (eventual #1) alternative radio hit. "Might Be Right" ended 2019 placing #2, second only to "Mary", on my year end chart.
Besides topping with "Fog Machine", White Reaper also re-enters at #31 with the album's lead single "Pages" and debuts at #41 with album highlight "Bozo".
Chappaqua Wrestling follows closely at #2 with "Wayfinding", once again showing impressive staying power despite its late charting and slow rise. (It was first released in September 2022 and debuted in November.) "Wayfinding", the second single from the band's upcoming debut album Plus Ultra, became their first Burner 30 entry, and this week they add another song to the chart - third single "Wide Asleep" enters at #40.
Elsewhere on the chart, Dazy and Militarie Gun's "Pressure Cooker" surpasses its initial #6 peak with a 7-5 move, Narrow Head rebounds into the top 10 with "Moments Of Clarity" helped by its top 10 success on Jessica's Top 40 and anticipation for seeing them in concert as support for White Reaper, and a tight six-song contest between #11 and #16 is emerging to compete for the coming top 10s, including the latest JessieLou single "2Faced", up 20-14 in its second week.
After being behind on the song in its first two weeks of release despite strong positive reception due to the brief downsizing of my chart, Fall Out Boy makes up for lost time with the week's top debut at #22 with "Love From The Other Side". The song from the band's upcoming album So Much (For) Stardust becomes their second Burner 50 entry following the #2-peaking "Uma Thurman" in 2015.
