It's Top 10 time!
10
Taylor Swift - "Message In A Bottle" (Taylor's Version)
(80 points)
This is the highest entry on this year's Year-End that didn't hit the top spot. It did, however, stick around for long enough to give it such a high position, beating her highest position on last year's Year-End chart with "Mr Perfectly Fine" which was #12! Man, she knows how to crank out a hit!
9
Luke Hemmings - "Motion"
(85 points)
(3 weeks at #1)
The lead singer of 5SOS took out #14 on last year's year-end with "Baby Blue", and, like Taylor, jumps into this year's Top 10!
8
Harry Styles - "As It Was"
(86 points)
(2 weeks at #1)
What a catchy pop track from Harry Styles! Dylan spoke about him in position #100 on my year-end chart this year, but it's all him here!
7
MacKenzie Porter - "Pickup"
(95 points)
(1 week at #1)
(14 weeks at #1 on my country-genre chart)
This year's highest charting country song belongs to MacKenzie Porter! I thought this was such a clever song thinking about ex's, and in MacKenzie's case here, it appears to be heartache, and it was catchy, to boot!
6
Tate McRae - "She's All I Wanna Be"
(103 points)
(3 weeks at #1)
We're into the big hits now, all reading the three-figures in points. Tate's previous releases were good but not amazing for me, so this was so good to hear to bring her into hit-status.
5
RARIA - "Dude"
(105 points)
(3 weeks at #1)
It took until the chorus for this to become an earworm for me, but that's what it was! I found myself repeating it quite often because it was such a nice sound, and such a powerful message that SO many people who don't know where they stand can relate to. Amazing stuff.
Lyric standout: "I told my mum about you, but you're still calling me dude."
4
Rina Sawayama - "This Hell"
(113 points)
(1 week at #1)
Wow. What a song. What a voice. What a message. This was Rina's biggest hit for me this year and gets her into my Year-End Top 5! I think I will go wild when she performs this one in a few weeks And thanks Julian for the heads up toward this awesome track and artist.
3
Louis La Roche feat. Darren Hayes - "Cold To Me"
(115 points)
(1 week at #1)
One could say I was a little bit obsessed with this track, featuring local boy Darren Hayes (whom I also got to see perform live this year at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras). Unfortunately he didn't perform this incredible track, which I found via Bill! So the recommendations really hit strong for me this year with how long this song stuck around, well over the 52-week-club mark. Such a NICE sounding song.
2
Stephen Sanchez - "Until I Found You"
(122 points)
(6 weeks at #1)
You know when you first hear a track and it takes you aback at first listen? That was this song for me this year. It's already spent 6 weeks at the top and isn't that old of a song, so it was that good that it ends up in this position, and on a debut! Definitely an artist to keep an ear on if this is anything to go by. Elton John even hit him up to praise the track! He said he grew up listening to his parent's music and that is certainly reflected here and via the music video.
1
Beyonce' - "Break My Soul"
(158 points)
(7 weeks at #1)
Well who saw this coming?
Who would have thought Beyonce would have a HIT, let along a YEAR-END #1 by this much of a margin!? Again, blown away hearing this and it was such an earworm that just would not leave. Bravo, Beyonce', bravo!
Thanks for tuning in, folks!
