METALLICA, FUELED BY STRONG EARLY M4B IMPACT AND 20HITZ ARTIST SPOTLIGHT, UPSET FOR FIRST #1
One week after a fierce battle for the top between Pinkshift and two fast-growing M4B genre hits led to the first all non-male top 3 in nearly four years, the three songs in contention were upset for #1, with legendary metal band Metallica earning a Burner 50 #1 on the strength of overwhelmingly strong M4B impact in its first month and their 20Hitz artist spotlight show that aired this past week.
Metallica vaults 7-1 with "Lux Æterna", topping in its fourth week in the top 50 and following huge M4B success that went as far as including becoming their highest peaking Globalchart hit and first top 10 in more than 22 years. It's their first Burner 50 #1; their previous album Hardwired... To Self Destruct spawned four charting entries including the top 10s "Moth Into Flame" (#6) and "Spit Out The Bone" (#10), and their metal classic "Master Of Puppets" charted at #5 following its Stranger Things inspired renaissance.
"Lux Æterna" is just the latest among several Burner 50 hits to benefit from my hosting of a 20Hitz artist spotlight. U2's "You're The Best Thing About Me" reached its #5 peak following their 20Hitz show in December 2017; Steve Perry's "No Erasin'" reached its #6 peak following Journey's 20Hitz show in October 2018; Ozzy Osbourne's "Ordinary Man" featuring Elton John spent its week at #1 following Ozzy's February 2020 episode, and in another episode where that song came out on top, spotlighting Elton John collaborations, "Cold Heart" with Dua Lipa broke onto the chart in a rarity for a pop song, eventually peaking at #41. Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Black Summer" got its week at #1 in anticipation of the band's April 2022 episode, though it fell from #1 the week it aired.
Metallica displaces Pinkshift's "Burn The Witch" after a five-week run at #1, down this week to #2, while Softcult's "Drain" and Hatchie's "Nosedive" also dip one from 2-3 and 3-4, respectively, and Narrow Head's "Moments Of Clarity" returns to its #5 high. Softcult build on the momentum of "Drain" by earning the week's top debut at #34 with "Someone2Me".
