PINKSHIFT EASILY HOLD TOP 2; EMERGING M4B HITS MAKE GAINS
As expected, Pinkshift continue to ride high on the momentum of their Love Me Forever album release and seeing them in concert as they lock down the top 2 with "Burn The Witch" at #1 and "In A Breath" at #2 for a second straight week. "Burn The Witch" easily holds strongly due to decisively strong play counts, and is likely to become the chart's first #1 since the song that kicked off their hit streak, "Nothing (In My Head)", to spend longer than two weeks at #1. (The eight songs that hit #1 between "Nothing" and "Burn", including three other Pinkshift songs, spent only one or two weeks each at #1.) "In A Breath", which spent two weeks at #1, holds its staying power with a fifth week in the top 2, helped in part from its gains on the M4B Radio Top 40 where the ballad is aiming to become the band's third top 10.
Like last week, the mostly static top 10 leaves room for few further highlights beyond Pinkshift's ongoing success, with the exception of a new peak for JessieLou's record extending eighth M4B 40 #1 "Karma Is A..." up 6-5. However, a number of emerging M4B hits are positioning themselves highly. Rival Sons' "Nobody Wants To Die", up 11-9 to become the band's third top 10 following "Too Bad" and "Shooting Stars", and Dazy's "On My Way", up 14 big spots from 28-13, both benefit from recent debuts on Pipa's Top 30 and adds on the bubbling under of Jessica's Top 40. Two other recent adds on Jessica's bubbling under, Narrow Head's "Moments Of Clarity" (29-17) and Softcult's "Drain" (33-19) also were helped from recent #1 debuts on Lyhom's Top 50. (Softcult, who I saw in concert opening for Teenage Wrist in June, also is the rare Unkiecore band to get consistent support from Bryan, a fan of Mercedes and Phoenix Arn-Horn's work in the synthpop band Courage My Love, whose song "Harlequin Romance" made his top 10 in 2019.)
Besides Rival Sons, Anxious also is new to the top 10 with "Where You Been" up 18-10; the one-off single now becomes the emo band's fourth top 10.
The Florida grunge/emo band Yeah, Sure has the week's highest of four debuts at #41 with "Saggy Genes".
