JERRY CANTRELL LANDS THIRD BURNER 50 #1; TEENAGE WRIST CONCERT AND VIRAL HITS MAKE IMPACT
Strongly supported by exposure on M4B Radio broadcasts during my drive from Florida to Arizona for a new job, plus its release as the fourth official single from Brighten further supported by a music video released this week documenting his solo tour, plus the era's continued M4B genre support, Jerry Cantrell has landed his third #1 song on the Burner 50 with "Had To Know". First debuting seven weeks ago just days shy of a trek to Houston to see Cantrell in concert following the disappointment of a COVID-related cancellation of his Orlando show, "Had To Know" held strong from the beginning as one of the highlights of the album well before its chart debut. It ends the seven-week reign of Joyce Manor's "Gotta Let It Go", which drops 1-2 while the followup "Don't Try" holds at #3; both songs remain in play for the top in anticipation of the full impact of the release of their latest album, 40 Oz. To Fresno.
Fast-gaining M4B hits in My Chemical Romance's "The Foundations Of Decay" and Rina Sawayama's "This Hell" may prove challengers. MCR's first reunion single moves 5-4, while Rina's second entry jumps 9-5 to match the peak of her previous hit "Enter Sandman". Beach Bunny returns to the top 10 at a new peak of #9 with "Fire Escape", while Greg Puciato earns his first top 10 as a lead artist with "Never Wanted That" up 17-10.
Teenage Wrist has the week's top debut at #15 with "High Again", which becomes the sixth song from their second album Earth Is A Black Hole to chart. On Monday the band debuted a new animated video for the song, which coincided with me seeing them in concert on the first night of their summer headlining tour; both played a part in the song's high debut, coming on the heels of the five previous entries and a remix of Loathe's "Is It Really You?" all reaching #1.
Elsewhere, this week's chart features action based on two viral sensations. "Pursuit" by Florida indie band Camp Trash jumps 44-21 following exposure from a satirical viral campaign to get the song to the top of iTunes' alternative and indie songs chart. And the alternative classic "Running Up That Hill" by Kate Bush, first released in 1985, debuts at #28 after its prominent use in Stranger Things 4 sparked an explosion in streaming activity and brought the song back to the global music charts.
