Hola, Chart Amigos
I joined m4bcc in 2004 (!!!), and while I rarely post anymore, I can’t resist the urge to check in from time to time to see how things are going. I cannot deny the profound impact this place has had on me.
A few days ago, while enjoying a stroll down Memory Lane in my massive iTunes collection, I started noticing that several of my most-played (as in EVER!!!) tracks are songs that I likely never would have found if it hadn’t been for somebody from m4bcc pointing me in that direction. I decided to dive deep into this… and I came up with my top 5 “referral songs,” tracks that an m4bcc member pointed me in the direction of.
NOTE: This list does not include songs that later became national hits on US radio after the m4bcc referral had given me what I’ll refer to as “advance notice.” For example, Tyler Hilton’s “When It Comes” definitely was a huge hit on my chart thanks to an m4bcc “advance notice” … but months after I started charting it, it actually started getting US pop airplay, so… I disqualified it from my list because even without the m4bcc “advance notice,” I probably would have discovered the song on my own. I wanted my list to be songs that I honestly likely never would have discovered if it hadn’t been for somebody on m4bcc charting it or talking about or sending me a suggestion to check out, etc., and that I still play often... even after all these years.
I honestly could have made this list a top 40, but for now, a top 5 will have to do. Maybe in the future I’ll expand it to more positions. I hope I don’t frustrate anybody who doesn’t see one of their referrals in my top 5. If you don’t see a song listed below that you know you referred to me, and it was a big hit on my chart, just assume it was #6 on this list, please.
So… without further ado… here are the top five songs (in true reverse countdown order) that I owe an m4bcc member a huge round of thanks for bringing into my life. (The member listed as “source” is to the best of my recollection. I apologize in advance if I got that wrong.)
5) You Don’t Know What To Do – Mariah Carey feat. Wale (referral source: JessieLou)
4) Time Bomb (Walk Away) – Chris Wallace (referral source: billcs )
3) Loving You Is Easy – Union J (referral source: Bebe Reptar )
2) Quédate Conmigo – Pastora Soler (referral source: @xfer)
1) All-American Boy – Steve Grand (referral source: Matt )
I challenge you to make your own top 5 (or more) of songs that fall into this category. Do your best to note which specific member pointed you in the direction of the song, too. I thought this was fun to compile, and I’d love to see your lists, too.
Take care, Amigos.
Love,
David
