JOYCE MANOR EARNS 2022'S LONGEST REIGNING #1, PLUS THEIR SIXTH TOP 5 HIT
On the strength of consistently strong play, heavy anticipation for their upcoming 40 Oz. To Fresno album, and getting tickets to see them in concert in August, Joyce Manor earn a fifth week at #1 with "Gotta Let It Go", now becoming the Burner 50's longest reigning #1 of 2022 to date and the chart's most dominant #1 since Jerry Cantrell's "Atone" spent seven weeks at #1 last summer. Joyce Manor is building further into an aggressively dominant period through charting high with a followup - "Don't Try", the second single from the album, creeps up 6-5 in its third week on the chart, becoming their sixth song to reach the top 5.
Citizen, who are joining Joyce Manor as one of three support acts on their summer tour, climb 3-2 with their one-off single "Bash Out", which now marks the band's ninth top 2 peaker. The band scored seven #1s since the chart's 2015 founding, that year's "Cement" and three each from their last two albums As You Please and Life In Your Glass World, and peaked at #2 with the 2019 one-off "Big Mouth".
Aiming to threaten the impact of the bands benefiting from an upcoming concert is one already benefiting from the current and impending impact of three concerts - Jerry Cantrell's "Had To Know" advances 5-3 to become the fourth top 3 peaker from Brighten, following the aforementioned "Atone", two-week #1 "Nobody Breaks You" and the #3-peaking title track. "Had To Know", now the fourth proper single from the album, debuted in the immediate impact of JessieLou and I seeing Cantrell in concert during an impromptu trip to Houston to make up for the cancellation of his Orlando concert, and now emerges as a #1 contender while we plan to see him in concert a second time during the Welcome to Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, on an evening that will also see headline performances from Guns N' Roses, Bush and Rise Against. A third concert, with Alice In Chains, is coming in September.
New to the top 10 are two artists who somehow manage to climb without the benefit of an upcoming concert - Hatchie's "The Rhythm" moves 11-6 to become the Australian singer's seventh top 10 hit and third from her sophomore album Giving The World Away. Beach Bunny earn their first top 10 with "Fire Escape" up 12-10, on a steady climb since a crossover to Jessica's Top 40; the song surpasses their previous entry, 2020's "Dream Boy", which peaked at #15.
Bayside earns the top debut at #28 with "Strangest Faces", believed to be the lead single from an upcoming album. "Strangest Faces" is the Long Island emo band's first new music since their 2019 album Interrobang, whose title track spent three weeks at #1.
